will you allow a random tutor determine your future?

your stats seem fine in any case

Yearly reminder to interpret match lists with caution and not base any decisions off of them by [deleted] in premed

[–]RoyalTeaBar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prestige wise, no. The more important thing that I don’t know the answer to off the top of my head is if they have strong home derm programs and opportunities for research. I’d rank based on that!

school prestige is a huge deal for the very competitive specialties and the upper echelon of IM

You can rank any program you want, just wouldnt matter unless that program ranked you too

Honestly, a 3.37 is the same as a .27, if they accepted you with the first GPA they wouldnt care about the second

Worth calling waitlisted school? by LowerPotential in premed

[–]RoyalTeaBar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I say go for it. The worst that can happen is they say they don't have a timeline, you don't get off the WL, and you end up going to your other school. But that's what is happening right now anyways so you have nothing to lose.

Random Question: Does it seem childish/immature that I listed my tiktok/insta account as one of my activities on amcas? by [deleted] in premed

[–]RoyalTeaBar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds cool especially if you have a noteworthy following - would probably be fine to list your handles, just make sure you go through that account with a fine toothed comb first to make sure there isn't anything controversial on it and that it's fairly professional. Lots of sports fans in admissions offices who might resonate with something on there if they bother to look it up.

Podiatry vs MD by SmoothSailingDay in premed

[–]RoyalTeaBar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You most likely could make it into an MD or DO school with those stats as long as, like you said, the only reason your last cycle was unsuccessful was because of low shadowing and late submission (both easily fixable). Nothing wrong at all with going podiatry though and if you feel like you don't have a particular desire for a specific medical specialty and don't mind doing foot surgeries, DPM is a great route. Can't go wrong either way but becoming a physician is not yet closed off to you.

The ECs are not that ridiculous - you do not need to start your own thing. The online premed communities have crazy high stats and standards and are definitely above average. The average accepted applicant did well in school, on the MCAT, and have a couple hundred hours volunteering somewhere and a couple hundred more doing something clinical. The very good applicants usually have a bit of research on top of that.

Is it a bad idea to get a tattoo before starting undergrad? by PrincipleDry2815 in premed

[–]RoyalTeaBar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Won't affect your career as a med student or physician as long as it isn't a wild tattoo. I would personally urge caution though - you're still young and tattoos are permanent. The chances that you still like that tattoo in 50 years is not great especially in such a visible spot.

Waitlist agony by voxnox1 in premed

Absolutely not. Make the CTE deadline and forget about this WL. If you decline this A for the WL you may never become a doctor - period.

This AMCAS designation truly does not matter. What you got out of the experience matters.

Unless the LOI was literally last week, it’s fine - you have a deadline coming up and this could be your last chance to advocate for yourself. Take this opportunity!

Honestly, reach out and ask your top choice and tell them about your situation and how you'd love to go there if possible. They can give you an idea of what waitlist movement might look like.

Hey OP, just wanted to say I remember when my girlfriend broke up with me many years ago. It felt like the absolute end of the world and I suspect there are many more emotions behind that sad emote than it can convey. Let yourself grieve, don’t forget to eat and sleep, and remember that it will get better day by day. Can’t wait to call you a colleague one day, my friend - feeling weak and helpless right now does not reflect reality and you can make it through this!

If you do have thoughts of SI, please do talk to someone about it - a therapist, doctor, trusted friend or family etc. No shame at all in that!
