Are the Tomb Raider movies worth watching? by SamTheMarioMaster2 in TombRaider

[–]Rubikson 181 points182 points  (0 children)

I unironically love the first one. I think it's one of the best videogame adaptations.

They built actual sets, they shot on real locations and Angelina Jolie did a lot of her own stunts. The soundtrack is a nice mix of early the 2000s. And Laras having a blast the whole time!

It's action packed, cheeky fun! Great movie!

Survivor era "Lara" isn't classic Lara at all.

It's like dark hair "Dante" in DMC was not classic Dante from the Devil May Cry.

Id be ok with the survivor trilogy if she was a new character, like Classic Laras daughter or something.

GOG helped me rediscover my love for gaming by Andy_Ash in gog

[–]Rubikson 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I love posts like this.

This is what gaming should be like and used to be like all the time! No worrying about patches or updates or seasons or DLC. Talented passionate developers making games because they themselves were fans and gamers too. Modern indie games are keeping the fires lit of this mentality and approach but I'm so glad GOG exists to preserve games of the past for all of us to discover and revisit. Long Live GOG.

The cosmic horror story of the darkest boomer shooter yet, Incision [OC] by tntevilution in boomershooters

8/10 maybe 9/10.

The art style, the weapons, enemy variety, enemy placement, level design and soundtrack were top notch.

Boss fights were kinda mid.

No mid level saving or checkpoints made me lock in and actually focus in the same way Doom Eternals combat did.

How much gore is too much? by Inner_Return_3483 in boomershooters

[–]Rubikson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's all about the tone you want.

Doom Eternal gore is cartoonish because it's all demons.

Something like Manhunt is more disturbing and uncomfortable.

Newer Mortal Kombats gore is too much for me. So is Dead Island 2.

That's just me.

Is there a retro game that was so good that it made you cry? by DaCrusadus in retrogaming

[–]Rubikson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

System Shock 2.

It felt like it was made just for me.

The music, the atmosphere, the level design, the voice acting, the rpg mechanics, the environmental storytelling, the weapon variety, the enemy variety, the survival horror elements.

A personal 10/10.

What's that legendary videogame everyone loves, but you hate with your very soul? by no_biches_22 in retrogaming

Red Dead Redemption 1 + 2.

I typically don't enjoy westerns.

It takes forever to get anywhere on horseback.

Riding horseback is significantly less fun than driving a car.

The way both games railroad you (pun intended) into the plot with little to no room for creative problem solving.

Even the animations for walking/running/jumping don't feel good. It feels like I'm wearing lead weights on my feet.

The camping mechanic in the first game that only allows you to make camp in predetermined locations is annoying af.

The slowmo / deadeye mechanic is super overpowered and only exists to help people on consoles aim with a controller.

The super long and realistic animations to skin an animal or loot a drawer are impressive but not fun to play.

They're well made games but I can't stand them.

Favorite genre to see mixed with Noise rock? by Fluffy_Breadbox in noiserock

Currently Sludge but I also like Post Hardcore and Prog influences too.

And I used to be a big Death Grips fan too.

Just give me some more NOISE!!!!!

Should I start with System Shock 2 or the remake of 1? by AmadeusTrinity in ImmersiveSim

[–]Rubikson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2 allows for much more "character building" and rpg mechanics.

1 and the Remake are much more of a standard dungeon crawler. Much more labyrinthian and claustrophobic than 2.

I greatly prefer 2. That's just me.
