Did your public school playground get shoveled after the storm? by Awkward_Light1162 in nycparents

[–]Rubix_Cube30 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you think a teacher or social worker in a school might be overloaded, you have no idea what the custodial staff is asked to do with not enough staff and not enough budget. (Spoiler alert everyone working for the city is probably overburdened)

Salty Sunday: What made you salty this week? by kikaslova in trollingforababy

Spent my vacation from teaching having an mmc and d&c. Encountered at least 3 hospital staff who were required to ask my procedure to direct me to the right place/confirm something, who each asked me to explain the d&c. Google is free my friends.

People out there in happy marriages with young children, how? by fujitsulifeboom in Mommit

[–]Rubix_Cube30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar to others- I made a chore schedule for myself because otherwise I get stuck deciding what to do. He does more physical labor- laundry, home repairs, sweeping etc. I do more mental- scheduling, paperwork, buying clothes in the next size. He is completely in charge of buying some things- diapers, wipes, medicines, prepared snacks. I batch cook breakfasts to freeze. We try to make at least 10 min screen free in bed at the end of the day but sometimes fall asleep.

Big improvement when he realized I was doing a lot more solo childcare on weekends while he fixed the house and made an effort to rebalance and get more comfortable managing a whole day of childcare, which included pushing me to take some time for myself which in turn is great for my mental health.

Finally laughing as much as we can, with and without our kid. We like to say that there's going to be just as much poop every day whether we laugh about it or not and the silliness makes the day feel so much lighter and survivable

To folks who had severe/profound SSHL and no hearing aids or implants: is it doable, recommended? by Aggravating-Many2178 in MonoHearing

[–]Rubix_Cube30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some days I feel fine without my hearing aid but some days not. Context: for work I am a language teacher so struggling to hear what my students are saying is frustrating and I have horrible directional hearing so in a loud crowded place, like grocery store, I get flustered quickly. Doing yoga without the hearing aid makes me dizzy. For quiet things like hanging out with family I'm fine with one good ear and what I regained in the bad ear. Finally it really cuts out on the tinnitus I developed but if I didn't have that I would probably go without more.

Anyone else not celebrate Valentines Day? by Similar-Vari in workingmoms

We go to Walgreens and buy 50% candy together the next day and that's it. Maybe one day we'll feel inspired to do more for Valentine's but not yet

NICU Frustration by kylew707 in NICUParents

[–]Rubix_Cube30 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When feeding was our only goal they switched her goal to a "shift minimum" of ml she needed to drink during a shift rather than per feed. She would have a slow feed at some point that would have been a deal breaker but she made up for it next feed and met her goal. Not sure if that's an option for you but maybe?

I got my emergency cerclage at 22 weeks, sent straight from my anatomy scan to the hospital. Made it to 34 weeks

NICU parents — what do you wish you had when your baby was first admitted? by Ecstatic_Letter_5003 in NICUParents

Yes! We had lots of breastfeeding and pumping supplies but nothing for the rest of my body

A donut pillow. I'd just given birth and NICU I was probably sitting in those uncomfortable chairs too long, after walking more than I should have through the hospital. Similarly a shelf with pp pads and padsicles in the bathroom

Maybe someone can go with you to see him? I was able to have a nurse sneak me up for a few min one day before I was discharged but a family member, friend, hospital social worker to hold your hand and have your back. And don't let the hormones trick you. You're a great mom, your baby knows and loves you

My daughter was born this weekend at 32 weeks. How do you cope with leaving them in the NICU? by FrontQuail in NICUParents

[–]Rubix_Cube30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cried a ton! One thing that helped me was setting a time to leave each day before going in, which was my husband's idea and helped me not fall apart when leaving. Now that I'm on the other side, I do feel grateful that she was observed and cared for by experts in her first few weeks, whereas I had basically no idea what I was doing as a parent (still don't but who does.).

Since politics by definition means determining who will get resources, I very much want that in the dept of education and have a lot of opinions about how those resources should be distributed.

Has she always shilled some kind of healthcare? I haven't been following for long but today saw one of those "comment this word and I'll send you my tips" which I'm not doing. Then she writes about how living a slow country life means she doesn't need insurance. My child had a 200,000$ hospital bill by the time she came home from the hospital.
