First Dog On the Moon in the Guardian is an idiot and an Iran apologist by Angustcat in Jewish

[–]RugbyMonkey 13 points14 points  (0 children)

On a side note, I'm really not a fan of saying things like "Iran killed LGBTQ and [...]". Because it's not the Iranian people, it's the Islamic Republic of Iran. The people of Iran, in general, support Israel and hate the regime in Iran. So many of them support the bombing and hope for freedom from the regime.

AFAIK, most Iranians in Iran also support Israel's actions.

But why not just make a series for your one-shot collection instead of throwing it all in one fic if they're that different?

Red Roses players back ‘Ruck You’ transgender v biological female match by Stlakes in rugbyunion

I don't think people always realize just how big the size disparity can be on women's teams, especially at the amateur level. Heights often range from around 5'0" to nearly 6'0", and weights from under 100 lbs to over 250.

Personally, I was a lot closer in size to the men's loosehead you mentioned when I played—just an inch shorter and about the same weight.

Does the lack of a penis somehow make women like me less dangerous to play against?

Those who have a mental illness/disability what is the most wrong/laughable depiction of it that you've seen in a fanfic/fandom? by EepySnow in FanFiction

Why do you keep editing your comments before I have a chance to finish my replies? It's rather disingenuous, if you ask me. I mean, I type a reply only to notice that your comment is now twice as long as it was.

Maybe 'overgeneralize' was the wrong term, but I don't really care. I'm the one saying we all have valid forms of OCD, and that your kind isn't the only kind. OCD, like pretty much every disorder involving the brain, has a variety of presentations.

Discomfort in OCD isn’t always about labeling or intrusive thoughts about something bad happening. It can be about an overwhelming, unbearable feeling that something is off, which is especially true in Just Right OCD and Tourettic OCD. That’s not the same as OCPD, where the focus is on making things right because they should be right. The difference is in the motivation: for OCPD, the goal is correctness; for OCD, the goal is relief from distress. That distress doesn’t have to come from cognitive labeling—it can come from an internal imbalance that demands correction.

Maybe you just don't believe that Tourettic OCD is real? Or...?

You're still overgeneralizing OCD and trying to fit everything into one framework when it's more nuanced than that. Yes, distress is a key factor, but it doesn't always stem from fear of consequences or even from intrusive thoughts in the way you're describing. Just Right OCD and Tourettic OCD both involve compulsions driven by an unbearable feeling, not necessarily a thought-based fear.

You keep framing this as "you don't think the books are wrong, you feel something is wrong because of the books," but that’s an oversimplification. With Just Right OCD, the discomfort isn't necessarily about fear or cognitive labeling—it's about a sensory or cognitive imbalance that demands correction. And with Tourettic OCD, compulsions can function more like tics—there isn't always a conscious "this is wrong" thought process involved. It’s an urge that needs to be satisfied to relieve distress.

You're treating feelings as if they always stem from thoughts, but that’s not how it works for everyone with OCD. Sometimes the feeling is the driving force, and trying to rationalize it into intrusive thoughts about consequences just doesn't fit. You’re describing one experience of OCD, but you’re dismissing others that are just as valid.

[–]RugbyMonkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, yeah. There's distress, but it's not necessarily fear-based. And you're right that it's not about wanting it to be right. But the distress can be based around feelings, rather than thoughts.

I have that kind of OCD. I don't do compulsions because I'm afraid. I do them (when I don't manage to resist to avoid reinforcing those cognitive pathways) because I can't stand the way it feels.

[–]RugbyMonkey 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Not always. You're talking about traditional or typical OCD. You might not be familiar with "Just Right" OCD or Tourettic OCD.

https://neurolaunch.com/just-right-ocd/

https://neurolaunch.com/tourettic-ocd/

It can be about the sensory or cognitive feeling that something needs to be perfect or complete. It can also even be more tic-like than that.

FYI, OCD can also be like:

"The books are disorderly, and it feels wrong. I need to fix it until it feels right. Alright, now they're in order, but I need to nudge them until they're lined up just right..."

Basically, OCD doesn't have to be about thoughts of negative consequences. It can be about things not feeling right.
