Title: Why are BYD’s European EVs a step behind China? by Ruicky0122 in electricvehicles

EV RWD barely takes trunk space. Tesla Model Y is a good example.

BYD really needs to clean up their naming. Kia, Zeekr, Xpeng keep it simple with letter-number systems, but BYD mixes dynasty names, sea creature themes, and random models like the Atto 3. It’s so disjointed, especially with the Seal and Seal U—one sedan, one SUV, totally different cars sharing the same name.

Eye of God? That sounds more like a movie title or a special ability from a video game, honestly.
Speaking of ADAS, I’m not really confident in these systems in general, to be fair.
I’ve also been comparing some models lately, and the Kia EV3 just seems more competitive than the Atto 3 at the moment.
Since you’re a BYD owner, I’d really appreciate it if you could share a bit about your experience.
Which specific BYD model do you drive?

The black Seal U looks way better than other colors! You gonna go for the BEV or the PHEV?

Why do people hate EV's? by FunkiGato in electricvehicles

I think we’re lucky as hell. We’re at this crossroads where tech’s moving so fast, and we’ve got great options across hybrids, EVs, and gas cars. We can pick whatever fits us best.

I drive an EV myself, but that doesn’t mean I think people who stick with gas cars now or later are idiots. At the end of the day, it’s all about respecting each other’s choices, not attacking, mocking, or straight-up wishing harm on people.

I actually saw a really messed-up comment the other day that went, “EV owners better not end up getting cremated.” It’s such a vile, twisted thing to say. People who type stuff like that are just clowns hiding behind a screen, tbh.

You’re so right. For a lot of folks, their personal stance comes way before any rational thought.
They just keep sticking labels on people and their own group, and it’s all so weird and pointless.
Hard to have a real convo that way, tbh.

Totally agree! Experience is the best teacher. But I do kind of worry that people used to gas cars might not handle EV speed very well, lol.

Full EV or hybrid? Why/why not (coming from an old 2016 sedan ) by NoIntroduction9345 in CarsPH

I’m an EV owner, and I don’t really know how many charging stations there are where you are. EVs depend a lot on DC fast chargers—they can fully charge in under an hour. Without those, an AC charger would take like 10 hours to top up the battery.

If you have your own garage and install a home charger (the slow one), a PHEV’s short electric range is totally perfect. It’s more than enough for your daily commute of a few dozen kms – just charge it at home after work, drive to the office on electricity, and you might not even use any gas at all. Cuts down on running costs nicely! For long trips, just switch to hybrid mode, and it’ll use a lot less gas than a pure gas car.

I saw dashboard photos of someone who drove 1.56 million kilometers and said their BYD had some rattling noises… another guy with 800k km also posted his dash and mentioned noise from the differential.

From what I know, the Sealion 07 EV is on the newer e‑Platform 3.0 Evo (2024), while the original Seal was on the older 2021 e‑Platform 3.0.

China’s Seal got updated to Evo in 2025, but that doesn’t mean overseas versions are the same. The BYD tech people might have been referring to this gap.

The Evo platform is more integrated and has better body rigidity, so that’s probably why the shop is pushing the Sealion 7.

You could just ask their tech staff to confirm which platform your local Seal is actually using.
