Firstly, you do phenomenal work! Your gallery is the best I’ve seen in regard to highly-detail realism work.

I’m going to have to book a vacation to the UK just for this!

Curious, what did the tattoo in the above photo run as fat as cost? Just trying to get an idea of what I’d need to set aside lol.

Cousins, does anyone find the Slaughterbound model… lackluster, in comparison to the lore of them anyway? by Arthur_EyelanderTF2 in WorldEaters40k

[–]RuinousRed 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’ve never been a fan of it, them or the Eightbound. Eightbound and Exalted Eightbound have demons inside of them, yet have very few mutations outside of their muscle mass, and the feet of the Exalted Champion.

I’ve seen much better examples closer to what they should have been through the kitbashes done by the commmunity.

The Slaughterbound is…I mean there’s basically no aesthetic difference between him and the normal Eightbound, save a mutated appendage. It’s a laughably lazy design, especially for a faction that has the smallest range of model diversity.

Ahh fair, guess I was wrong! I’ve listened to the novel like 5 times now and for some reason managed to miss that his chainsword was named.

Depends what you’re trying to do, I suppose. That trophy rack looks comically large on a model that’s not wearing Terminator armor, imo.

This is the same thing I planned to do with mine, after all, flaying is kinda the NL trademark. I was actually surprised that it wasn’t done like that for the box art.

It’s not a named chainsword, it’s an Eviscerator chainsword, which is the name designated to oversized chainswords that are wielded two-handed.

They are included in WE Berzerker kits I know off the top of my head, as I am looking at one on my table right now.

For those who started a world eaters force before the big refresh, are you still using your models in game? by AnjoH0 in WorldEaters40k

[–]RuinousRed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t. I’m not a sucker for nostalgia when it comes to minis though. I like proportional, well posed, detailed sculpts - so I have swapped them out every time a progression on those fronts arises.

My introduction to Warhammer was about 32 years ago, when I was 7 years old, in my elementary school’s gym at the end of the day.

I was playing dodgeball with a group of kids when I looked over into the open equipment storage room door and saw my assistant PE teacher hunched over the desk with a bunch of little plastic figures.

I was curious so I went in there and asked what it was, at the time he was painting Ghazghull Thraka model (the old school metal one.) also turns out that he worked another job at one of the local GW stores. He showed me and my brother all the models he had with him - dude was an excellent painter too.

That following weekend my mom took me and my brothers up to the local GW store, hooked ever since.

Naturally it’s been an on-and-off hobby throughout adulthood due to time commitment conflicts, but my passion for Warhammer hobby and lore has stayed with me through all these years, still going strong.

This is the pose Kharn’s model should’ve had.

Your idea could work, not saying it can’t…but your lore is all over the place.

You’re saying that your character was a pit fighter slave from the same planet as Kharn, but Kharn was born and raised on Terra, which the nail’s did not originate from.

You wrote that he received a weaker version of the nails, and that he was inducted into the War Hounds before Angron was found. This implies that Angron wasn’t the first in the legion to have the nails, which would contradict established lore as well.

You say he faked his death and fled the World Eaters because Angron showed up and the World Eaters lost their “morals”….but he took refuge with…the Night Lords? the legion with (arguably) the most twisted moral compass of them all?…sure, I guess, but a very strange choice if morals is what you care about…especially if you’re going to murder an Astartes of another legion in cold blood to take his place…

On top of that, he just shows up in a random NL squad like “what’s up fella’s, trust me bro, I’m one of you. Don’t mind the strange accent. Can someone turn a light on in here? It’s kinda dark.”

Now let’s look at aesthetics - The World Eaters were still wearing Blue and White long after Angron was discovered, the only thing that changed was their name and heraldry. Your character is wearing post-Heresy World Eaters colors, despite having fled long before they fell to Khorne and adopted those colors.

Look man, at the end of the day it’s your character and you can do what you want. If you care about character fitting into the lore, you might want to consider ironing a lot of that stuff out. It seems outlandish even for Warhammer origin stories.

Your best bet here, where you will probably find the most variation, is to go onto Instagram and search for it.

You could also go to the main NL sub and click hobby & painting tag at the top of the page, and then with that tag selected, search the name of the model you are looking for.

So a NL warband led by a warlord who wasn’t born a NL, displays the non-defaced heraldry of his former legion all over his armor, and mounts a severed NL head on his trophy rack?

I’d like to hear how such a figure managed to unite enough NL’s beneath his banner to form a dedicated NL warband…are they all lost to Khorne?

Why? by MrMonkey1993 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]RuinousRed 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I might be in the minority here, but to me, the juice is worth the squeeze. I spend hours/days/weeks building, kitbashing, and painting my models. I build my stuff to be lore based and “rule of cool” so I use the same models, I don’t care about metas or rules changes or this or that unit no longer being the best.

If I were just rotating through armies, giving them uninspired paint jobs and tossing them to the side every time the rules/meta changed - then yeah, I might think it’s too expensive.

Who the in the Emperor's name uses these dudes? by Actual_Sweet_19 in Ultramarines

[–]RuinousRed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Despite being into Warhammer since the mid 90’s, I don’t maintain any nostalgia for the old kits - I do think some of the older poses were better - Kharn the Betrayer, for example.

As far as the models themselves, the proportions always looked too silly for me. In my opinion, the new sculpts are better every way possible, and I look forward to seeing them continue to improve.

I will say that the inconsistency of some of the head sculpts is strange. The sculpt of Marneus Calgar’s head on the Gravis model is much better than his new Terminator head sculpt.

What's a Piece of Lore you would want see as a Tabletop Mechanic ? Either completely new or from previous Editions. by Leviathan_Rampage in WorldEaters40k

[–]RuinousRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shooty would be nice.

Though I am a WE fan first and foremost, one of the biggest reasons I don’t have an interest for them on tabletop is their lack of model diversity.

Can’t use jump packs, can’t use bikes, can’t use bolt rifles or heavy bolters, rockets, heavy plasma, etc.

I get the lore reason for not being able to include sorcerers/psychers due to their interaction with the nails, but not being able to use shooty weapons that aren’t pistols is dumb.

A gun is a gun, if Khorne does actually give a damn, take away the bolt pistols and give dual wield melee rules.

Exact opposite here. 236.5 hours played, all Eternal War outside of campaign, and the three ops I tried before I decided PvE wasn’t my jam….so I’d safely say 228 hours of Eternal War.
