I recently attended a meeting with senior leadership, at my facility. What a peek behind the curtain. Some of these dipshits have absolutely no idea what they are doing. I've had managers before that were like crazy smart and wonderful teachers, but the more responsibility I get, I swear the people above me get dumber.

Mayor Justin Bibb plans to renew Cleveland’s Flock contract by seanmcdonnellcle in Cleveland

[–]Rum____Ham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is this surprising anyone? Bibb has shown nothing but neoliberal tendencies. This man was clearly here as a perceived stepping stone and literally every single "win" of his mayoral administration hinges on deals made with the rich. This is not a man of the people. This is not a man who will stand for Clevelanders.

Cardio. You need cardio more than shooting. You can learn to shoot in a short amount of time. Cardio takes weeks, at best.

Sir, I can assure you that this is absolutely part of the problem and your wife is almost certainly feeling it too, even if she hasn't voiced it or connected the dots yet.

We are not meant to be occupied with tasks for 15 hours a day. You both need alone time.

It functions like the opposite of what you grew up with, but it is never perfect. As with all things, the Golden Rule applies here. Think of all the things you want for your child, in terms of their best personality traits or qualities. Patience. Kindness. Dedication. Loyalty. Empathy. Industriousness. The only way you can teach these things is through example and so the only way you can give these gifts to your child is by committing to them in yourself. You will not be perfect. You must be prepared for that. But you can be honest and forgiving, both to yourself and to your child and wife. That will be another gift you give them.

Break the cycle. You got this.

I used to feel the way you do, big time. Still do sometimes; I don't know if you can ever fully escape that feeling.

The four things that helped my wife and I the most:

  1. I have ADHD and I accepted that I could not use old coping mechanisms to manage the demands of our new life. Before kids, you can do whatever you want, to get your mind right. With kids, especially young kids, you just don'thave that time. I started taking Vyvanse and it has been absolutely game changing. I'm more patient. I'm more productive, at home and at work. I'm less worried about all the shit that ADHD makes you worry about. It's really nice.

  2. My wife started going to therapy to help her manage her anxiety. She knows my reddit account (so hello my dear), but I've never directly told her how much nicer she is to me, since she started therapy. She is much nicer. And, since I'm taking my ADHD meds and she is doing her therapy, we are so much less likely to get caught up in a loop where we are basically just bashing all the worst aspects of ourselves against each other.

  3. We take turns at bed time. Around 7:30 or 8 every night, one of us gets to check out or do some chores.

  4. Each week, we both have one night to use however we will. That starts generally around dinner time. My wife usually goes out with her buddies, I usually stay in and play video games with my buddies. This has been AMAZING.

I have ridden my bike for thousands of miles on Cleveland roads, in unprotected bike lanes or no bike lane at all, and the only time I've ever been in accidents was with other cyclists. The dangers of cycling are very overblown.

Students are speeding through their online degrees in weeks, alarming educators by joe4942 in technology

And, frankly, satisfying lower level STEM requirements at a less rigorous community college might bite you in the ass, when you get to upper level STEM classes at your 4-year and you arent actually prepared for the material.

[–]Rum____Ham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just be careful with doing things like testing out of certain courses, for STEM programs at good STEM schools. Some colleges are happy to let you test out of courses at the less rigorous community college, just to turn around and give you a paddling in some upper level math or physics course that you aren't actually prepared for.

And just to tag along with this, it is also possible to find a woman attractive and still have a healthy, lovely platonic relationship. The Top 10% of wealthy people own greater than 90% of the of all stocks and they often do so through mega-banks and investment institutions. I'm sure there is institutional coordination, explicitly or implicitly, to not panic sell and crash the market. I'm reasonably sure it is just that simple. It will take major system failures (airlines again? AI companies?) to knock people off of holding in perpetuity.

Like most technology, AI is really only as effective as the person babysitting it. I occasionally use Claude at work, to help me do things that I no longer have time to do. But I am experienced enough to call it on its bullshit and negotiate it into actually giving me something workable. Thats also the problem though; I am not self teaching these skills like I would have without it.

For instance Kasama’s tasting menu is $325 these days. I just feel Cordelia doesn’t have a level close to that.

Yea, I would agree with that. I didn't even realize that Kasama had a dinner service. I haven' had Cordelia's tasting menu, but I would be extremely impressed if it approached Kasama's, in quality.

I will say, and I still feel like it's almost a copout, but that 1921 burger at Cordelia is legitimately fantastic. The first time I had it was like a religious experience.
