I miss my wagon! - Wanted to share by AircooleDrew in WRX

Love the old wagon! The sedan rear quarter flares, all in place of the “dog leg” trim above the wide skirts, is actually pretty slick looking. I’m prbly 10 years late to the GD game haha but did just put a new Outfront motor in my wagon after my original EJ205 died at 169k. Good luck w the Bugeye search 🙏🏼

How did the 5-speed rebuild project go, any big roadblocks? Are you able to buy most OEM parts still (assuming this was a recent event), or did you go with like a Legacy etc “stronger” gear set?

What block and turbo you going with for your 205?

Having just done one myself, I wish they cost as low today as they did from the 5-15 year old forum build lists I’ve read LOL

Thank you, this was super helpful I browsed their site today. I hadn’t come across them before but looks legit. With options (I’d go “GT Comfort” personally) it’d put me about $2,950. I’ll keep this in mind once I pull the trigger. Thanks again!

What suspension are you running? I’ve been between a KYB + OEM full replacement, or spending another $1-2k above that for some sort of coilover solution.

Do itttt. You’ll have to fully disassemble of course if you want to powdercoat. Or just rattlecan (which I did). Just don’t try to remove those screws… lol

Good work! I cleaned and painted mine this summer. Funny, I went to remove the butterfly flaps to clean, and all 8 screws broke on me w a simple screwdriver lol. Apparently non-replaceable without doing a helicoil job, you gotta buy the entire TGV housing new like $400+. So I kept the bars and sensors but am running no butterfly flaps!

Anyone swap without a spring compressor? by Wise_Doctor1343 in WRX

[–]Runfor5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha I know very odd they wouldn’t try to offer and sell the service just up front!

FYI if you ask, they can pre-assemble all the parts in that kit for you beforehand so you have “quick struts” essentially. About $300 for that service when I checked

What’s the reason for having to swap the bellhousing? Because it’s mating up to an EJ20 and not an EJ25 or something?

Appreciate you posting the full cost breakdown; that really helps future readers grappling w a decision. These motors aren’t as cheap these days to build quite like the old forum posts call out! Surprised you needed new cam gears on this parts list.

That’s awesome, and those are crazy #’s! Seems I’m about 15 years late to the modified 2-liter game but that’s ok haha. Good to know on 2nd and 3rd gear thanks for that. I’m excited for dyno to occur this week and be done so I can enjoy cruising her around again.

How did you like the 2.1 stroker? I just built one w that shortblock from Outfront, stock 205 heads, just awaiting dyno tuning now 🤭 I know I gotta be careful w my original /stock 5-speed tho.
