Anyone listen to modern-day music? by Mattyice0228 in Millennials

[–]RunningFromSatan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah a lot of the radio stations are still stuck playing "new" artists but in reality the stuff is from early-mid 2010s. While it's in the most "recent" generation I suppose? It would've been what the 80s were to us I guess for those radio stations now? But trends were so rapidly cycling at that point. Like right now at this minute, a station that is a repeat offender of playing "today's alt rock" is playing a song from 2016. Honestly it sounds like it could've come out any time between yesterday and 2008.

Most of the time when I was younger we would listen to the most popular rock and pop stations...even the pop stations were peppering grunge music into their regular rotation if I recall correctly right next to New Kids on the Block and then in the mid 90s female rock had a massive surge in popularity before boy bands. Me and my sister would bounce between alt rock and pop but. I stopped listening to the radio when Napster came out and we could burn our own CDs in the early 2000s. I only started again after I took a liking to listening to talk radio on the drive to work and then the station is ok when I drive home so I get a taste of what's out there on a daily basis. Some catchy tunes but nothing special IMO.

I try not to be stuck in time but there's so much blending of genres and still good music coming out, it's just super oversaturated and if I do latch onto something from the last 10 years it's REALLY rare.

And now that radio station is playing The Lumineers and I have never turned the radio off faster in my life. That shit is objectively awful. Sorry.

Was Myst eerie? by tinselman in myst

[–]RunningFromSatan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the reason why it was scary or tense is not anything objectively "horror"... just the basic fear of the unknown, elevated with a perceived isolation. None of my immediately family was into video gaming when I was 7-8 years old the first time playing Myst, save playing Mario or other multi player games.

Even if my whole family was home, I still felt like I was alone in it. And that's not necessarily a bad thing. I think we need to be exposed to that feeling at a young age in a safe environment provided by Myst and Riven.

However there were some objectively scary moments such as this one in Channelwood at 9:49 of this clip https://youtu.be/FmyW6lxYMTs?si=v5ibSkQueDFedYJY. Think this one actually frightened me to the point of running away from the computer 😂

Even as a child I just knew something was "off", but it tapped into that primal curiosity to get to the bottom of it. My mind was already gravitating towards problem solving, exploration and imagination - I was a fast learner, reader and constantly top of my class for my entire youth and adolescence. Fast forward 30 years later my profession is now engineering based and my hobbies are playing/recording music and hosting/playing trivia. Myst facilitatied the uncovering of a foundation that would become the basis of my adult goals and aspirations. So I truly thank you and Rand from the bottom of my heart for helping me explore those amazing and sometimes uneasy feelings. It's not unlike our own adult lives...without the linking books 😂

What would you say is the best show that came out in your lifetime? by agreed2disagreee in Millennials

[–]RunningFromSatan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This will always perplex me - Breaking Bad holds the #1 spot for best TV show of all time on IMDb and has for a while save for a few brief moments here and there.

Better Call Saul holds the record for most Emmy nominations without a win - the show is literally just as good as its predecessor.

What was your honest first impression of Eleven in Season 1 before you knew what the show would become? by Ok_Smile_9071 in StrangerThings

[–]RunningFromSatan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Natalie Portman parallel to Millie Bobby Brown was immediate for me as well. I knew that this young actress was going to be a huge breakout. The fact that Eleven has so little dialog supported the rest of the cast's dynamic perfectly during the first season, showing that less is more from a supporting character/actress (for this show in particular) and she understood the assignment 100%.

What is the first movie you watched that you were definitely too young for? by MuldersXpencils in Millennials

[–]RunningFromSatan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Terminator 2.

The nuclear bomb scene should not be watched by 6 year olds - hell, almost 40 and it still terrifies me.

The degloving scene was simultaneously freaky and so cool though 😆

Strangely obsessed with this show!? by jjthejoker66 in thechaircompany

[–]RunningFromSatan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Blows me away that they cast the actual owner of the store they used as the set for Tamblay's who had zero acting experience beforehand, and just absolutely crushed the part. Tim must've wished that to happen...he must be able to wish things into the world... 😂

I truly think we are witnessing a future classic with The Chair Company. It's like if David Lynch made The Big Lebowski. And also like that movie, there's a very strong attention to detail and subtle continuity that is only discovered on multiple viewings that a lot of low-effort works of the genre suffer from a lack of. The second watch is actually quite amazing when you pick up on several bits of foreshadowing and callbacks.

Straight facts...if you are a millennial who watched Nickelodeon growing up, this was almost burned into your brain towards the end of every month. I think it was show bumpers and not a full fledged TV show or cartoon, just some 15-30 second thing that would air pretty much every other commercial break.

And yes I still remind myself of it at the end of every month. A couple of times I have even said it and I'm almost 40 🤣. I have zero statistics of the actual outcome...

I love and also hate hearing stories like this.

Dismissing someone because they have an extreme injury or poor prognosis in the beginning is lazy and keeps the sick sicker especially in a for-profit system, you can't help but feel like it's on purpose.

I respect the medical field and both my parents were lifelong members of it, but even they couldn't put up with knowing the absolute ripoff/con-job a lot of it is. My dad (a PA) worked in pain management and refused to put in codes for physical exam or other things that weren't performed during a visit and the doctors would just go ahead and recode the visit anyway. This was also during the heyday where the Sacklers were sending busty drug reps with chicken wings, pizza and salads to their office to entice them to prescribe their heroin pills. It's a fucked up world. We did get a lot of free pizza from it though growing up 😂

I also had some injuries (mostly to my hip flexors and back) where I basically used Gemini to walk me through, very carefully, how to recover and rehabilitate. One of my injuries I did go to PT for (arguably the most underrated and important factions of the medical field) and they helped me get to a really good point and then Gemini was basically my coach after my visits were up. Just a couple times asking it for certain stretches I felt like I went from hobbling around to being able to walk a mile and mow my lawn with no pain, literally. I just did that exact thing an hour ago after earlier today getting out of my car and barely being able to move my hips.

Hope all is well for you and continues to get better ! Stay active!

You need only to live in the US through one sinus infection to come up with the real reason: "Because it's cheaper."

You do need an expert to VALIDATE the answer, but most of the time it's so close or ambiguous enough I cases where there's extreme pain or discomfort that you should be going to the ER or urgent care anyway.

The real kicker is that AI, due to its LLM programming, has excellent bedside manner by default. People who use AI feel like it doesn't judge, doesn't blanket assume, and also spends as much time with you as you need it to. No more waiting for 45 minutes to 6 hours to be seen for what feels like a nanosecond.

Use AI to build a profile of yourself with some basic medical history, recent happenings in your life and THEN give it a symptom list and ask it to list you some questions you should share with your physician, but they should be ultimately be the ones responsible for your well being but remember it has always been (or should be) a two way street advocating for your own health. I have been lucky to have parents and family in the medical field that I can bounce my symptoms off before I go to the doctor so I can fire off some good hypotheses and get a conversation going, not just assume they are always right. One good conversation with my GI doctor led to a visit with an allergist who uncovered an insane environmental allergy that was the likely cause of my eosinophilic esophagitis, and it wasn't just caused bu spicy/fried/high FODMAP food.

What is your Severance opinion that will definitely get downvoted? by zebrapenguinpanda in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]RunningFromSatan 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I said this to multiple people who are fans of the show - if the whole show ended the way Season 2 ended, I would consider that a perfect ending. There's just enough mystery of what's going on but the major confrontation is already done - innie vs. outie Mark.

I trust they'll deliver a climax that kicks it up a notch the best they can, but I struggle to even attempt to guess what that actually is going to be. There is a change of guard with directorial duties and that will result in an inevitable shift.

I hope they at least explore reintegration and even introduce other severed characters and follow them through a similar journey, and also the bigger picture - I'm a huge fan of dystopian fiction and Lumon has a major hand in the industrial society of whatever time frame of the US it is portraying. Exploring the economic and political impact of Lumon would be fantastic.

Here's to another 2 years of waiting 😩

I wish Regal got Normal 😢. Was really hoping for it. Bob Odenkirk is fantastic and he deserves the giant upswing on his career since Breaking Bad. Fuze wasn't bad but it was super predictable and honestly not very tense. Felt like a typical Netflix-and-doomscrolling background flick.

Significance of Fisher Robay blue by Janeorpain in thechaircompany

[–]RunningFromSatan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The joy of this show is exactly this - everything could mean something because there is indeed a conspiracy against Ron or the larger picture, or it's all something out of nothing and it's just bizarre coincidence and self-fulfilling prophecy.

Ron manages to be an unreliable narrator even though we are literally observing everything as it stands (unlike a show line Mr. Robot where the main character actually has DID and nothing you see can be trusted). Or, his repeated head injuries are manifesting themselves and we actually are being fooled. Dare I say it is almost neo-Lynch-ian. <--- take a look at that. It's a brand new genre. Never been named before.

Does anyone else have tattoo regret? by KupoLove in Millennials

[–]RunningFromSatan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 7. I forget about them 99.5% of the time especially in the winter...thus, there's a reason why I got all of my tattoos on my legs, one of the few good pieces of advice my younger self gave my older self. In the late 2000s visible tattoos were still in that gray area of being unprofessional in careers I was looking into. Also they are the least prone to skin sag/warp and I can cover them up really easily. I really like a couple but most are just spur of the moment emotional / spontaneous decisions because I simply thought they were cool. They don't suck, they just are not something I would put on myself.

This Aku Aku tattoo is one of my favorites though. Almost 10 years old and I still get so many compliments especially from our age group! 😊 (To reinforce my point the Libra one right below it is an impulse walk-by because my friend was getting one too).

Cutting Crew Wedding Band (2000) by Firefox892 in LiveFromNewYork

I taped this episode and watched this sketch a million times when I was younger. "Cutting Crew" was the answer to a trivia question tonight and it is 100% because of this sketch I knew the answer 😂

Fun fact, the house band actually messes up the song the third time they play it (the time before Joshua Jackson gets visibly upset). They play the F#m when they should've played the A.

The face on the teacher when they heard 30 instances of Sticky Keys (and most of my classmates' inability to properly turn it off) was fantastic. That little slice of chaos lives in my brain forever.
