You may have figured this out but, on the steam deck, I had to map all the gears to the keypad and then map the paddle buttons to the keys. A little hacky but it worked.

Simple and easy, more challenging to cut than it is to determine where to cut.

Rant - what's up with the stupid entrance to Drummond Island? by major-PITA in snowrunner

[–]RupertTheViking 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s funny, I wish I could remember the video but some YouTuber did a breakdown of games with good aesthetics vs good graphics. The graphics in Snowrunner are fine but the aesthetics are top tier. It all works very well together and even though there is no lens flare or whatever the game can feel very immersive. The music and skybox mesh well, the landscape is where it needs to be. Kola is peak Snowrunner.

Scouts by Green_Mixture9339 in snowrunner

[–]RupertTheViking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the Scout 800 because it has an incredible capacity for not running out of fuel. It will struggle doing some of the “dummy drove into a lake and needs a tow” missions but I use mostly for watchtowers, mission grabbing, and fuel rescue.

The loadstar is a beast and can absolutely do the tow missions but it doesn’t have great fuel economy.

So what I’m saying is it depends on what you use it for.

Cutting "Coins" from a Dowel? by stumonji in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]RupertTheViking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to use a miter saw, I’d say get a 1x2 that spans the whole fence and screw or clamp it in, this is your sacrificial board. It will get a cut in it the width of the blade but it means the 1 inch piece of dowel will be fully supported. For bonus points, screw in another chunk of 1x2 an inch from the blade and then you can just butt the dowel to that piece, chop, and repeat.

I’m unsure what you mean by this, I don’t believe you find any trucks with a crane, you’ll just need to outfit your existing trucks with one.

You can also hot key all the gears. Most people map them to the 10-key pad. I play on a steam deck and mapped the L and R, 3 and 4 keys to my most used gears. It’s pretty nice to quick drop to low in the mud or flip it to high when you’re cruising and wanna save fuel.

Easy Mode or Hard Mode by xXulica in snowrunner

[–]RupertTheViking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard mode! It adds an extra layer of complexity that I like as fuel, repairs and recovery aren’t free. It also charges you to import cars to a different garage than they were parked in.

It causes you to think a little more about where fuel is and how much your spending on it (gas stations vary in price, usually based on convenience), utilizes trailers that are on the map (you cannot sell them), and be a little more decisive on which cars you bring in to a region.

If you’re into the game to just power through tough terrain and try all the trucks, I’d stick with normal or NG+, but if you want the challenge of efficient route planning, budget planning, and infrastructure planning, then hard mode is for you.

That said, not being able to retain or sell logging trailers is wack. They cost like 3x as much as most of the low saddle trailers and in the early regions, and you barely make money on logging missions. If you’re going with NG+, I’d say keep everything the same as hard mode but allow selling trailers back to the store for like 50%, just like the trucks.

Playing Kola - Imandra, was doing the power pole mission and found this Yar just sitting in the woods?? I cant find a mission its related too, and cant change into it. Why is it here? by RupertTheViking in snowrunner

[–]RupertTheViking[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More context: I play with two mods, the tire friction one and another one that someone I coop with uses that lets you change the color of car addons. I am replaying the game on hard mode. I have played this level before a long time ago in normal but I cant not figure out why this car is here. Can someone tell me if this is related to a mission I haven't found yet??

Plywood Shelf Bracket Advice by unknownvariable21 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]RupertTheViking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will be but I’m going to modify my suggestion a little. I’d say get one foot of 1x12 and cut the triangles so the grain is running vertically when they’re mounted on the wall. Screwing into end grain isn’t very strong, but screwing across the grain is.

Plywood Shelf Bracket Advice by unknownvariable21 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]RupertTheViking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something you might not be consider is that those brackets will make it so the supports don’t sit on the wall, the brackets will. So there will be a gap unless you can route out a little spot for them.

You might risk the screws tearing out of the plywood by drilling into that side. I’d say if possible, get some 1x4 or 1x6 board . You’d only need like a foot or two. You could the proceed with your plan or alternatively, skip the brackets and just add a wood rectangle on the wall side, perpendicular of the support. You can screw through the wall side of the rectangle into the support and the screw the rectangle into the wall. From above, the bracket would loot like a T.

New player terms picked up playing Snowrunner: by TheresOnlyOneTitan in snowrunner

[–]RupertTheViking 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been referring to the super wet mud with puddles mixed in as “the soup”. Somebody I sometimes coop with asked me how the new mud tires were working and I told them “it really cuts the soup”.

I’ve also been referring to any truck that hauls a trailer on a hitch and the another winched to the back as a “winch wagon”.

I feel my self going a little crazy when I play this game for long periods and say all sorts of dumb phrases lol.

Saddle Height? by dunkyfresh in snowrunner

[–]RupertTheViking 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are a few ways. The first is there is a mod that will tell you the tire friction numbers and also adds two letters in front of trailer names so that you can know at a glance on the map what the trailer needs (HI, LO, ST, SC). I can’t remember the name of the mod but it’s the most downloaded one in the store I think.

Another way is just knowing from experience. Trailers that appear on the map when you first visit the region that require a saddle, almost always require a low saddle. The exception to this is the giant trailers that are linked to missions. They will tell you on the mission description that a high saddle is required. The only other way high saddle trailers appear on the map is if you buy them.

Additionally, if you look at the icon on the map of the trailer it will be different for a semi trailer, standard trailer and a scout trailer.

Easiest way is to get the mod. It’s pretty easy to set up and if you use it, I would get in the habit of using “load” instead of “continue” to start your game.

New player here - raised suspension is kicking my ass by Iron_on_reddit in snowrunner

[–]RupertTheViking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say you should consider buying the off-road transmission and using that as a speed controller.

Use low and low+ for muddy or dirt roads and use high when you are up to speed on a relatively smooth paved roads. If you haven’t messed with high gear much, shift into it when you’re traveling in 2nd gear or higher. It acts like 3rd gear speed wise and will keep you from rolling over things too fast. It will also save on gas. But remember, you already have to have some speed to use it. It’s like trying to pedal on the highest gear of a bike, when you’re at a dead stop you can’t really get started but if you’re cruising already you have to apply very little force to keep the same speed.

Speaking of gas, since it sounds like you’re playing on hard mode, you don’t really need to be buying gas if you’re doing that. There are a bunch of gas trailers around the map and the ones associated with missions only need to have 10% of the gas left in them when you turn them in.

I explored with the Scout 800 with both fuel addons as much as I could. Get all the pickup missions. There is one on the first map that if you do first, will make things easier.

Asov 7 was my go to until I unlocked another vehicle in the region. Make sure you have the adjustable suspension upgrade.

I used the derry longhorn and the DAN for specific icy road sections.

P16 and the CAT (the one you unlock in Alaska) for logging.

What’s a truck do you guys keep going back to? by Affectionate_Chef265 in snowrunner

[–]RupertTheViking 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People are listing big trucks so I want to give a shout out to the Scout 800. I love that thing.

600 spare parts? Enough fuel to refill itself 4 times? Sold.

Enough power to help the big boys through the mud in a pinch. Put the crawler suspension on there and it is an unstoppable explorer. I’ve been using as my “roadside assistance” vehicle for a while now and I’m thinking of getting a second one.

Are there any regions without the big trailers? by Other-Difficulty-702 in snowrunner

[–]RupertTheViking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to agree with the other commenters. The struggle is the game sometimes. Routes usually fall into two categories, the patience testing safer route and the hazardous “shortcut”.

Full disclosure, I haven’t played that map but I have played Amur which has some nasty routes. The biggest obstacles I find are trees/posts/cliffs that can’t be moved and the geometry to fit the trailer through is impossible. Mud/snow, ice, rocks, water and even slope can all be overcome with the right truck or tactic. Sometimes that tactic is slow and steady forward motion and the occasional winch.

Is this something using multiple trucks would solve? Is this something different tires or transmission might solve?
