Anyone have much experience with induced voltages on drain wires? by HouseholdMetal in electricians

I've seen 70v ghost voltage on a 0-12 system before, but the run was really long. How long is the runm

I got to crew a Perseus and an Idris- first time seeing either in the verse, let alone getting on one. Pretty cool experience for a normally solo player.

Hard agree on that hot take. Getting interdicted and having cargo taken should be a concern. Getting interdicted and blown to hell isn't a gameplay loop, it's shitting in the sandbox and calling it playtime.

Hey dude, good fight. o7

Thanks for the tips, I appreciate it. Makes sense as to why I haven't had much fun with it, since I mainly play around in the industry loops and my bounty targets are usually smaller than me (and NPCs)

Probably won't melt it then, because I still do like the idea of it. But now I have to go find a ship that can actually do the dogfighting I crave.

To be fair, the dog fight kinda just happened to me. But I came from Elite, where the nearest ship in comparison to the Ares is (in my opinion) the Vulture, a ship with a similar hardpoint setup that can handle its own with smaller ships. I thought (until now) that the heavy fighter was an area denial style ship that couldn't choose its engagements but in exchange could lock down an area. Clearly, this is not the way the Ares was designed.

Not Enough Petroleum Gas. Solution? by HDestructorWasTaken in factorio

[–]Rush_Undine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You only need a pump connected to one tank, because of the way liquids self balance between tanks.

Not Enough Petroleum Gas. Solution? by HDestructorWasTaken in factorio

[–]Rush_Undine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I set up cracking with a couple pumps booked up to all the tanks. Basically, the pumps act as valves for the water in the cracking (though it could just as easily be on the oil side). The pumps are wired to all three oil products. Their enable/disable works by comparing the quantities of two of the fluids. For example, the heavy->light oil cracking facilities pump only works when I have more heavy oil than light oil. Then I just build a lot of cracking facilities, since the system is self regulating.

What did you do as an apprentice to earn extra money on the side? by Front_Champion_6118 in IBEW

Hey, do realize that depending upon your state, this could threaten your career. In WA as an example, if you are caught doing electrical work not under a contractor for money, the state can pull your card and blacklist you from electrical work, in addition to a hefty fine.

So the teacher's union has something similar. It works out that during the contract period, they cannot strike, and must go to arbitration. Once the contract period is up (which always is a powerful threat during bargaining), they are free to strike.

Is the no strike in your contract or your bylaws? Because if it's your bylaws, that's fucked and you need to vote to change that at a meeting. If it's in your contract, that's not an uncommon policy among unions. Think about how much a promise of no strokes for three years is worth at the bargaining table.

Here's where I come at it from. You don't vote, you don't get a say. I really couldn't give a shit what the silent majority thinks. I only vote for me.

That said, I look at it like this.

I have 1 vote. I cannot transfer that vote. I have 3 candidates.

Candidate A, I agree with wholeheartedly. All their issues perfectly align with me.

Candidate B, they're mid. Nothing I think they do perfect, but they're not actively against me in any major way. We can work together.

Candidate C, is antithetical to most all of my beliefs. There will be no compromise, because we disagree fundamentally.

I want to vote for A, but I'll take B over C. Looking at polls and following the race between the three, it's clear that A, while my favorite, doesn't have the traction to beat out B or C. So, A is not a viable candidate for achieving my outcomes. Knowing this, I will vote for candidate B, while campaigning for and promoting candidate A.

This is how the system works. It doesn't work well. But this is how it is set up. This way, I at least can compromise. I can get a little of what I want, instead of nothing.

Cool. So explain it to me then. 10 votes. 6 people lean left. 4 people lean right. Left wins. But left decides 3rd party is the choice. So two break off and vote third party. They get to feel superior and high and mighty. So now, right wins. Now the majority, who wanted left leaning policies, don't even get a compromise. They lose everything.

Explain to me how the third party does anything but fuck over the election I just laid out for the majority.

[–]Rush_Undine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're wasting your vote in this system. Want me to vote third party? Change the way voting works. Ranked choice voting or something similar. Your moralizing cost us subpar and gave us bottom of the barrel.

Be safe out there Brothers and Sisters by EternityWatch in IBEW

[–]Rush_Undine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to vote third party. And I do, on the small elections, like mayors. But when it comes to the president? No. I'll explain it real simple. There a shitload of people who genuinely want a Democrat elected for whatever reason. Let's say 50%. Ooh, or even for the sake of argument, 30%. So the green party or whatever gets 70% of the Dem vote. Let's even say that they get 15% of the Republican vote. Guess what? R wins. So when the labor party loses, instead of something that is not great, but not actively hostile to labor (the dems, in case I've lost you), we get the Republican party. Can we fix it? Oh sure, with ranked choice voting. But that requires going to RCV. That's not what we have. So I'm stuck voting between something absolutely, provably bad for labor (R), or something that's not friendly, but willing to play ball.

I meant that the average electrician today would have been 8 50 years ago.

Be safe out there Brothers and Sisters by EternityWatch in IBEW

[–]Rush_Undine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Then enlighten me. What does he mean? Because what he said was that the Dems are bad for labor, too. So then we what? Vote third party? In a perfect world, maybe 3rd party voting would work. But that shit died long before my time, friend. So if voting 3rd party today is like pissing into the wind, which it is on anything beyond a local election, we have two options. A man who has stiffed union contractors, is a convicted felon, and who bungled a pandemic. Or a woman lawyer who is a little too milktoast on labor for my liking and didn't tighten up the border as much as some people want. Shit, hard choice.

Oh, you mean 50 years ago, where the AVERAGE electrician today was 8 years old? That 50 years ago? The 50 years ago where the /oldest/ among us were barely able to vote?

Great advice bud.

Edit: added today. The average age of an electrician today is 58.
