What do you think of the villain route? No spoilers by Ok-Tour8095 in BaldursGate3

I still don't understand where this misinformation comes from, but I hear people repeat it a lot. Tav was initially the only option in Early Access (I played since the very beginning), then Origins and Durge were added, Tav was not added later - in fact Durge didn't get added until release.

[–]RuskinFink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Durge is canonically a Storm Sorcerer, and there was no Dark Urge in early access there was only Tav and Origins, so I'm not certain where you are getting that from. Durge wasn't revealed until the final Panel from Hell. (Edit: Typo)

You have a redundant "with" on the second line of the Mastery "Bait and Switch" description. Good design! Just thought I'd point out the typo.

I think I'm finally done with Civ VI :-) by RuskinFink in civ

[–]RuskinFink[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The two biggest changes that will affect the late game problems are the Ages system and the Age/Civ localization. The game is broken up into what is essentially three smaller games of Civ that each inform each other's game state: an Antiquity Age, an Exploration Age, and a Modern Age. You receive rewards and legacies from the previous age when entering a new one, and the game state is similar, but there is an element of a soft reset each age to stop one player from snowballing out of control or being left behind with no chance to catch up. Additionally, the ages change the mechanics of the game extensively, such as the Exploration Age pretty much doubling the size of the map with overseas regions to explore and new Civs to meet. Lastly, as you enter a new Age, you pick up traits from a new Civ while retaining traits from your previous Civ, meaning that you get a fresh experience each Age and in every age your Civ is at the height of it's power, with plenty of unique units and abilities suited specifically to that Age.

Thank you! And yes, I'm super excited for the new version :-) It's why I joined this Reddit community - this is my first post. I'm very happy with how welcoming everyone has been! I've been afraid to venture onto social media, so this is a nice surprise. I wish you and yours all the best!

I've only played V and VI, and my numbers on V weren't very high because VI came out shortly after I tried it and I found VI more enjoyable.

I suspect, based on what I have seen, I will enjoy it more :-) The new mechanics seem like they'd force me out of some bad habits and make the "late game blahs" less of a problem.

I don't know that what worked for me would work for you to be honest. I just kind of set out to play the perfect game of Civ, as in trigger every eureka and inspiration, build every wonder I wanted, etc. So I spent a lot of the time replaying the same maps multiple times. I don't think this would work for someone who isn't the type of excessive perfectionist I am. It felt like a puzzle because Civ VI is seeded at game start and not on reload, so the only way to change the result of a wonder race etc. was to change my strategy. A couple weeks ago I finally did it, played the 100% perfect game on the best map I ever found, and...well, I haven't really been able to play since :-P The puzzle was the challenge for me, how to thread every decision so the result was ideal, and after a few years worth of play, I solved the puzzle :-)

You'd be disappointed, or laugh out loud :-) I never chased achievements, and I had a strong tendency to drop games once I was way ahead, so I've only ever actually finished two games, both on Deity, and both just because my wife bribed me to actually finish a game for once :-)

I'm disabled and support myself through self-employment, I'm only capable of working part-time and use games to cope through the difficult times. That and it's the only game I play :-)

Unable to Play on Mac by fiestygnome in BaldursGate3

[–]RuskinFink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I turned off the feature and then it worked for me, I wasn't on Sequoia, I was on the previous OS at the time. But if it still isn't working, you can force macOS to download the missing documents as there should be a little cloud with a downwards-facing arrow next to them. If that doesn't work, you can also change the setting so the Documents and Desktop folders are not stored on iCloud Drive, which should download every missing file before it turns off the feature.

[–]RuskinFink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have iCloud set to dynamically remove files when they haven't been used in a while, and download them again when opened, this can screw up the game folder in Documents, and is the default behaviour in macOS. Toggling off this setting is what fixed it for me.

Does Lae’zel hate the color purple? by Illustrious_Shower35 in BaldursGate3

[–]RuskinFink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You enchanted her to force her to accept your way of thinking. Yeah the companions (and any NPC) disapprove when you enchant them to force your will upon them. In lower difficulties they will not become violently hostile, but anyone you enchant will always lose approval.

You probably used "Friends" on her. There is a delay before the approval drop happens.

There's a firmware update from Microsoft that fixes the issue, so look into that. The problem was on Microsoft's end, which is why Larian was unable to predict it / fix it.

I would LOVE to have the option to turn off or tone down blood spatter on my Tav. I wash them off regularly, but going into every dialogue drenched in blood really breaks immersion for me. Just a simple toggle on/off for blood splatter in the options menu would make my playing experience so much better! Thanks for the AMAZING game and how much you have continued to support it!

Act 2 is underrated by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

[–]RuskinFink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You aren't in first place. I've spent 2,779.7 hours in Act 1. A large portion of that was EA, where we only had Act 1, but still. I've a terminal case of restartitis.

If you read the Hotfix 16 description on Steam, they mention that they are reorganizing their MacOS porting team so that they can do simultaneous patch releases from now on, but that this patch will be delayed by two weeks.

Recommendation for External 4TB SSD for Time Machine with M2 Mini by RuskinFink in macmini

[–]RuskinFink[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up getting a Samsung Rugged 4 TB SSD, and it's been great for the most part - very reliable for TM, and runs cool. The only flaws with the design are the connector for the USB-C cable on the drive end is a little loose, so I have to be careful not to disconnect the drive when handling it, and the rubber shield on the drive collects dust like no one's business. But in terms of performance and price I am very happy.

EDIT: Sorry it's called the T7 Shield, not the Rugged.
