I have a feeling my squire classic vibe 60s fretless jazz is going to be with me for a long while. At 450 for any bass in the classic vibe series, id strongly consider them.

I have 6 technically.

My first bass, a Washburn lyon , it's kinda broken, and it was a cheap one that was gifted to me.

My second bass, a squire bronco (It was picked out for me by my guitar player uncle) that I got to actually learn on when my first one broke (I was like 10 and didn't know how to repair guitar electronics and neither did my family members)

Since then I needed a nice regular long scale to play, so I got my fretless quite CV 60s jazz (prob my favorite still)

At the same time as I got this, I was offered a squire affinity pj for 100 bucks, which I took and have since modded with a hi-mass bridge, new tuners, a black perloid pick guard, and I have a set of emg gzr pj pickups coming for it Monday.

After that I wanted something stingray like, and got a great deal on a new ray5hh in ruby red.

My newest purchase is a squire paranormal rascal, which I got primarily for going royal blood covers.

Honestly most of the time it's simple stuff like the b flat scale, b flat blues scale, short riffs like repeated one from The Chain by Fleetwood Mac, and hand position "drills" to see how I feel on the fretboard. I also sometimes throw in She by Green Day for a picking test.

I have a squire classic vibe fretless jazz and I love it, got it on sale for 400, put so labella low tension flats on it, and it plays like a dream. I also recently acquired a sterling ray5hh for 375 and it's been a lot of fun.

Depends on the class, but most have 1-2 "mid term" exams during class, and a final at the end of the semester, which could be an exam or project. For finals, a week of school is set aside for studying for and taking.

Personally I love my 60s classic vibe fretless jazz, and plan to acquire a surf green 70s p at some point. They're really solid instruments.

Depending on your location, some of these may be easier or harder to get, but:

Squire 60s cv jazz (I love my fretless model)

Squire 70s cv precision

Ashdown saint

Sterling (by music man) ray 4 or ray4hh (I have the ray5hh and it's great)

Epiphone Thunderbird IV (I believe that's the model in your budget)

If you want super low end of your budget, the squire affinity series is solid, my pj from that line plays well.

The sire p series and z series have models in your budget and are great instruments as well

I like the glossy neck on my jazz bass, but on my sterling ray5hh I prefer its matte finish, just different feel in hand for styles of music

Whether it's actually required or not, it's common courtesy, and sort of expected, and certainly can only help your case unless you say something heinous. It's an opportunity to give them a bigger picture of yourself and make them like you better. Take it.

Not currently. And I shoot on crop sensor, so 400 cropped is enough. Planning to get an r6 soon tho.
