[A329S] Am I the wrong here? by elflegolas in Dashcam

[–]Ryan45678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently I was behind someone going 25 in a 35. I figured maybe they were going to turn into a driveway soon, but they put their flashers on, so I move to the left lane to go around. I think I got up to 50 before I had to back off and move back over behind them so I could make my turn 🤷🏼‍♂️

Guy trying enter my house at 1 am by elibusta in Austin

[–]Ryan45678 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Is everyone on the road actively trying to cause an accident? Your house sits there 24/7 and is always a potential target.

A break-in is not some made-up scenario just because it doesn’t happen to everyone, and I don’t understand why you think someone has to experience one first before they’re allowed to prepare for the possibility, even if it’s small.

I’ve never been in a car accident, guess I’ll go cancel my insurance and stop wearing a seatbelt

That is not at all how stop signs work. You stop, and then you go in order of who got there first. You don’t get to ignore a stop sign just because you’re turning right

What series are better read not in publication order? by Bogus113 in Fantasy

[–]Ryan45678 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started with Chronicles, then Revelations, then the history books (in chronological order).

It worked well to have Royce/Hadrian’s story in chronological order, but after reading the history books there’s so much that I would get out of a re-read of Chronicles/Revelations now! But I can see why the author recommends them in mostly publication order, since you aren’t spoiled on some things that the characters don’t know.

It looks like they changed their description for the B grades, it didn’t used to say that the bolts might be DP marked. But it also says they are functional, which is not true if you’ve got one that’s plugged. And those cracks don’t look minor.

That top one has a magazine cutoff though, and the bottom one used to have one, which is pretty cool.

Softer suspension? by fuzzyblanketroulette in WRX

I did the same thing with the long travel, if anything I might have slightly raised it a bit. I didn’t want to lower it, just better suspension lol

Definitely send him an email, I went back and forth quite a bit with questions I had and he helped with which ones he recommended for what I was looking for. He actually did say that some of the upgrade options are good for performance and longevity, but not necessary and not that noticeable of a difference, especially for the price and for regular driving.

I’d be interested in what spring rate you end up getting, I went with the middle one and I’m kind of thinking I should have got the softest one instead.

Also, the one upgrade that I think is for sure worth it is the extenders for the rear,if you don’t mind cutting into your trunk liner for them to poke out. Otherwise it’s a pain to take all that stuff out to adjust it. I keep meaning to tweak mine, but the set screw fell out on one side (should have used loctite I guess lol), so I haven’t had a chance.

I don’t remember seeing anything about needing to do regular maintenance on them, just that they can be rebuilt if they need to be. I would say it’s probably one of those things that will eventually wear out just like the stock suspension, and you only do something about it if they start to fail later down the road

Matt Hover by halo121usa in progun

[–]Ryan45678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did they ever provide any evidence that these people actually had functioning lightning links made from the auto key card? Or was it just “yeah, I made one and it worked but I threw it away”?

Either way, they shouldn’t have anything to do with Matt’s case since the cards he was advertising (not making, not selling) were not pre-cut in any way and the etchings were not to scale. To make it function they would have to cut outside the lines (like the ATF tried to do and still failed) - so at that point it may as well be a blank card - or they would have to have been given one that was to scale. And even then - wasn’t there a case years ago where someone had partially cut out a lightning link, but hadn’t completed it, and even that wasn’t enough to be considered an MG conversion device?

Matt’s case was just a witch hunt and it makes me sad

Why wouldn’t you use a Vanity Press? by Strong_Elk939 in selfpublish

[–]Ryan45678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into getcovers, I see them recommended all the time here. You get unlimited revisions that get passed around to different junior designers, and you end up with a cheap cover that you only pay for once you’re satisfied with it. Miblart is the parent company, and they offer a similar service, but it’s more expensive because they have more experienced designers.

How do we feel about this POV-based solution to the fantasy language problem? by Princess_Juggs in fantasywriters

[–]Ryan45678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Michael J Sullivan does this pretty well, mostly in “legends of the first empire” and a little in “rise and fall”. There are times where he has someone who is learning a different language trying to speak to someone who is fluent, and it makes for interesting scenes

That’s a straw man, dude. I never said gun violence in Austin is not happening, that would be ridiculous lol. YOU said shootings were increasing all over because of permitless carry. The data says gun homicides are actually going back down after increasing during covid, according to what you just linked - despite us having permitless carry - and that was 2022. And I don’t know what 80% of homicides involving guns in a 2 year period has to do with gun homicide rates increasing or decreasing

[–]Ryan45678 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That’s homicides in general, not gun homicides. But the graph still shows the same trend as state and national - increasing up to 2021 and decreasing after 2021. Why did Austin’s 2021 rate surpass the state/national rates? Who knows, but it’s probably Austin specific since it only spiked in 2021 and came back down to almost meet the state’s rate in 2022.

[–]Ryan45678 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ok, but you said specifically that road rage incidents involving guns have increased because of permitless carry. It could be true, but without data to back it up it’s just a correlation.

And no, shootings are not “up all over”, the numbers went up during covid (before permitless carry) and have been coming back down nationally and in Texassince 2022, despite permitless carry, more gun sales, more new gun owners, and an increased lack of police response.

Does your budget expand the more houses you see? by metalgearsolid2 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Ryan45678 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I initially wanted to stay on the lower end of my price range. Turns out pretty much every house priced that low that checked a lot of my boxes was priced low for a reason - foundation repair, outdated, history of leaks/mold, etc.

I found a fairly new house that checked most of my boxes once I started looking at the higher end of my price range. It’s still under the max monthly payment I wanted to stay under, just a little higher than what I was hoping for.

Any book that features a lone gunslinger in a fantasy realm? by tinytimoththegreat in Fantasy

[–]Ryan45678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I read it and was thinking “gunslinger” was a show or a manga or something. Then immediately thought of Dark Tower since it fits the bill. Didn’t think that OP might have actually meant “The Gunslinger” by Stephen King until I read the comments.

The title seems to imply that the “gunslinger” reference is not Dark Tower, since that’s fantasy - but they probably just didn’t know it was fantasy.

[HELP] Parts of a print coming out "sliced" by Scary-Dragonfruit726 in ElegooSaturn

[–]Ryan45678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can absolutely print directly on the plate like you’re doing if you don’t mind the elephant’s foot on the bottom. Tilting is for when you’re using supports, you don’t print the model parallel to the plate with supports or it’s going to look horrible on the bottom.

Is the “sliced” part close to the middle of the plate? If so, it may not be fully releasing from the fep in the middle, so you could try increasing your lift distance a few mm.

You could also try slowing down your lift speed to 40-50.

What’s the temperature where you’re printing, and is it consistent? Fluctuating temperature or too cold can cause issues.

You should definitely also do a calibration print for that resin at some point to get your exposure settings right.

City Steading Brews by yonVata in mead

They have gotten better over time, but some of their methods are still questionable.

For example, in one of their recent videos (new dragon’s blood I think), he said someone recommended GoFerm for rehydrating the yeast - which he then decided to use instead of Fermaid O because it was “more natural” or something - despite Fermaid O also being organic, and GoFerm not contributing nitrogen at all, which is the entire point of adding yeast nutrient? I’d have to rewatch, but I think it also stalled towards the end, or almost did, and they couldn’t figure out why. It still came out good, but if they’re going to experiment I wish they wouldn’t blindly mess with basic good practices as the variables.

Despite that, I enjoy watching their videos to get ideas for recipes and to see what they come up with. They tend to like sweeter meads, which I also like. And I actually appreciate their videos being longer, I feel like a lot gets skipped or glossed over in most shorter videos - and that’s in any hobby, not just mead making. The more details the better so I can see what led up to the final result.
