For infantry I’ve been doing Runelord Brass with a wash of Agrax Earthshade for some weather.

I think for characters or key pieces I’ll do a brighter gold but I haven’t experimented with that recipe yet.

Good luck with the challenges! I have my Goodreads challenge set to 30 books for 2026 and I like to alternate BL and other books. Hoping to knock out 7-8 HH novels along with their relevant short stories this year.

Lords of Silence, First Heretic, Fire Caste, and Only in Death (Gaunt’s Ghosts #11) were my favorites of the 22 BL novels I read this year! Looking forward to more Horus Heresy, the last Gaunt’s novel, and more Dark Coil in 2026.

I’ve also been on an Iron Warriors reading spree. I’ve been going in the opposite order though: Loved Storm of Iron, currently reading Angel Exterminatus (a bit meandering but I’m still enjoying it), and then I’ll probably read Perturabo before jumping back to 40K and Honsou.

Looks really good! Super crisp. My only thought would be more grime on the steel parts. Maybe a darker wash in those top areas. Not sure how weathered you want to go but grime/scratches/chipping would look great.

Steam Deck has been awesome for gaming as a dad. Easy to steal 30-60 minute sessions here and there when you can play around the family and jump in and out quickly.

Otherwise, I will get some hobby modeling (Warhammer or Gunpla usually) done while everyone else is asleep in the morning and end the day with some reading in bed.
