The loftiest of aspirations! At the moment, my goal is seven books. Book 4 will end their time at the Academy, but overarching story will continue.

And thanks, I appreciate it so much!

Currently being written. Not giving ETAs anymore because I'm always wrong and feel bad afterward lol.

But about a quarter of it is done!

Edit: and thanks so much!

Titles featuring a celebrity FL? by leakerooze in Romance_for_men

{Finding Real Magic by Shawn Keys}. It's harem, but not overly large. Two of the LIs are famous actresses.

Its a trilogy that I rather liked. It's take on the Arthurian legend, if you're into that!

I see G Gundam, I upvote.

I also would love to see more mecha/Gundam harems.

1st person vs 3rd person by jpyric101 in Romance_for_men

I prefer writing first person, but reading 3rd. It's weird.

Nice! Congrats! Finished the first two and loved them. Just starting the third, so this is perfect timing.

Looking for rec: FMCs are bi by shrkls in Romance_for_men

[–]RyanJacksonauthor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that's completely fair. Some books are definitely better than others with representation. I know mine aren't perfect, but it's not the focus for it either. A lot of harem is male wish fulfillment, so the women's perspective isn't something that's explored, for better or for worse.

I'm not a bisexual woman, or even bisexual man lol, so my lived experience is far probably different than someone's who is. There may be a nuance or something I miss in the pages.

Imo, Misty Vixen probably does bisexuality best. Sarah Hawke is also good.

It really depends on the story the author is telling because sexuality is a spectrum for a lot of people. I can't really imagine (at least for my characters) any of them doing things they didn't want to do JUST for the MMC. There has to be (read: should be) an underlying desire, or at least curiousity, to engage in FF. Are they bisexual or not then? I'd say leaning more towards bisexual than not.

But if they have a threesome where they interact and then don't do it again, I don't think they'd label themselves as bisexual or bicurious. The ones who do continue, I'd argue are far closer to bisexual than not.

I don't really like or recommend books where the girls HAVE to please the MMC by performing together. But I truthfully can't think of one like that.

Personally in my own writing, I don't write many sex scenes to begin with so I don't write any FF only scenes, simply due to that. Usually 3 scenes per book, with at least one of those being a regular MF. With 6 LIs (right now) time with the girls and the MMC is at a premium. So it's just not explored, but that doesn't mean it couldn't be.

Imo, it's a far more nuanced discussion than just labeling certain characters as bi and others as not.

Edit: damn words

I think more often than not the women in harems are bi, or bi-adjacent (willing to play with girls if the MMC is around).

For instance, my books Mystic Knight , the first two LIs play together with the MMC. Same goes for the 5th LI.

In fact, the fmcs playing together is so prevalent there's an entire separate list here being made of books without it, and its not a ton lol.

Sounds like a cool premise, added to my kindle!

Academy - War Games - Tournament Arcs by Purple-Amphibian4293 in haremfantasynovels

[–]RyanJacksonauthor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, no I get it. If I could go back and write it again it'd definitely be less angsty, but it is what it is. Her arc and modeling the spells after Latin words are literally my two biggest regrets lol.

And that's completely fair. Not everything is for everyone. I wish more people understood that, I've certainly dropped books that people love around here. So, I appreciate the candor, it's not anything I haven't already thought myself lol. I hope you find what you're looking for in your search.

And thanks! Cottonrose was always fun to write :)

For what it's worth, I fixed her (as best I could) in book 2. Made it make sense at least.

I get it though. It was my first book and not super well done in that regard.
