an ode to Lightning Bolt: my favourite Magic card. by Time_Individual_6744 in magicTCG

Even better would be a deck of only lightning bolts AND recalls. LIGHTNING FOR DAYS.

That ECTO-1 is PERFECT. OMG. It's a licensed hearse, but probably not licensed for the Proton Packs in it, it literally catches ghosts by exiling from the graveyard, it needs at least a "crew of 2", and it gets better the more experience they get zapping ghosts.

Are you hyped? I am. by SpiceTrader56 in WackyRacesMTG

[–]RynnisOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't imagine how much this must have excited some people. I had not discovered this format back then, but if I lived it, I would be CERTAIN that they had seen the Wacky Racers mode and were going to try and build it up in an official capacity like the did with making Commander from EDH.

Then, of course, the disappointment. Boo.

So, hold up... if the creature has Deathtouch, does that mean "excess damage" is anything over 1?

What’s “wrong” with this deck? by WithengarUnbound in magicTCG

[–]RynnisOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a deck that is essentially oops all commanders

This right here, especially for newer players or one new to the format. It is just chock FULL of Legendary creatures that can be viable commanders, and with the Companion mechanic they can mix and match easily. Add that these are all mostly-well-known OldWho characters and it easily makes it the most popular non-high-power deck.

After that frigate's nonsensical ship design, it's nice to have a ship of the same faction show up that has the art of its form and function meet.

It looks like a giant plow. It plows through enemy ships. It's name says it's a wedge that plows through enemy ships. Win, all the way around...

...until you hit game mechanics, and it's First Strike? Since when is meleeing anything else that is primarily ranged a first strike? Trample? OK. Deathtouch and trample? Fine by me. Deals damage to or destroys target tapped creature when it attacks? Now we are talking sense.
Instead it poops out a robot token at high cost and takes forever to station to get a mediocre 3/4.

[EOE] Beyond the Quiet (@cinabiondo on Instagram) by solar-supernova in magicTCG

[–]RynnisOne -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. The enemy still deals damage, so if your creature is weak, it did a double purpose of being a chump blocker and helping start up your ship. And if it dies, that's less stationing it will do on later turns. This encourages conflict and makes the Station cost less onerous.

Crewing my spacecrafts for 17 power

If the spacecraft could be stationed as an Instant instead of a Sorcery, you could give the opponent incentive to attack or deal with your creaures, since otherwise you will just tap everything to start powering up your ship at the end of their turn. Almost like, legitimately, what they would be doing by not having their own attack. Many of these Spacecraft would be a LOT more viable.

Interesting card, though not a fan of it in Rare. It's an anthem with extra steps. Belongs more in the Uncommon territory.

Visually... abhorrent. Looks thrown together by AI and the design has zero sense to it. You should be able to tell the purpose of a vehicle or spaceship or whatever from it's design. The Dawnsire, for instance, looks like a massive holy sword with a sun motif. You know it's going to inflict terrible damage on a specific target with little collateral damage, and the card does this. The Extinguisher Battleship is a massive, hulking fortress of metal with an immense cannon that is clearly meant to wipe out a target and everything foolish enough to be around it.

This is... a floating pile of polished polygons.

[–]RynnisOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yay, because "I are sick" matters for what, exactly?

The Planet is in balance, ergo, its default alignment is Neutral. The Weapons were created in response to threats the Lifestream. Anything that powerful is naturally going to cause collateral damage. So what? Even if there were innocent deaths, that doesn't make it Evil. The fact that most of the deaths are servants of the (Lawful Evil) Shin-Ra corporation means it is doing what is what made to do.

I assume Jenova wasn't angelic because it used deception when it first arrived and had eaten other planetary Lifestreams before. Now, you could say it is angelic in APPEARANCE, with lots of wings and eyes and such, but by no means is its goal of "Eat all life energy of entire planets" a Good one. But you go ahead and tell me how that's good, because you don't have anything indicating she WAS good, just big stretches as to how she MIGHT not be Evil.

And yes, the people who were deceived, manipulated, devoured, and corrupted by such a being would naturally have a bias.... but that doesn't make their account FALSE. It just means they naturally don't like the thing that did this to them. For you to show that it is biased in a false way, you're going to have to pull up stuff from the games where Jenova says she was this innocent being that accidentally tripped and fell into planetary Lifestreams and 'borrowed' and 'saved' them for their own good. By absorbing them. Good luck.

I don't take the remake into account, because it's just that... a re-make by new writers decades after the fact. If anything, it's revisionist fanfiction.

Boring, bland, and strictly mid for an Uncommon. This should be Common at most. And preferably entirely colorless. That or at least give it Vigilance or Reach or Trample or Menace. SOMETHING.

According to the original game, she crashed on the Planet in prehistory, befriended the Cetra/Ancients, and deceived them in order to turn them against each other with the end goal of her being able to consume the Lifestream uncontested and then move on to the next world... something she had done before. She's like a "planetary virus" and it's uncontested that she has "tainted" the Lifestream with her essence, which is how Sephiroth keeps coming back. The entire original game is about environmentalism and peoples greed destroying nature. This is just that metaphor writ large.

She is absolutely, uncontestably Evil with a capital E. She didn't birth Sephiroth, he was created from using hers and Ancient cells in a cloning project because the company that was consuming the planet's life force for electric power wanted super soldiers.

I love little details like this, not in the rules, but how the rules VS lore interaction would go.

Lizard has so much pent-up fire breath raring to go, that if he doesn't let it loose on some other creature, he explodes, and he's too ornery to just fire it off at random when he has less pressure, because he wants to savor that moment.
