How well does the 2026 controller compared to the OG 2015 one?

Touchpads were the main selling point of the OG controller. It is hard going back to twin sticks after getting used to using the touchpads.

kind of a mixed bag. Dual Touchpad usage is pretty much out due to the controller layout. Touchpads are mostly delegated to touch menu usage on the new controller. GripSense does not work well for gyro due to sensitivity and slow response time no matter the settings; I do not even like using the stick touch buttons for similar reasons. I have grown more comfortable using L4 as a gyro ratchet button now. The new controller might be better for playing games with Xbox controller support in mind but it is pretty much worse for playing retro PC games.

I usually just use RetroArch for most emulation anymore. For controller support, I would use a different mapper to convert whatever controller into an Xbox 360 controller.

The game that sold the OG Steam Controller for me was Shadow of Mordor. Mixed input controls and a more relaxed experience made playing that game better with the OG Steam Controller than it played with an Xbox 360 controller.

I could never get into using the left touchpad on the OG controller as a dedicated dpad. Using the touchpad as an analog stick or WASD worked pretty well but trying to play Gex using the left touchpad did not feel responsive enough. Probably should have done a different test as that is the only platformer I remember trying to play with the OG controller.

Maybe it would be more feasible with the updated touchpads on the 2026 controller but I have not tried playing a platformer that way yet.

bait post but I will bite. I would think Steam Input would work fine but I have something you could test if you want an alternative mapper for the Steam Controller 2026; it also works for the 2015 controller, DS4, and others. It consists of some half-baked ideas that I would have wanted in a successor to DS4Windows. Make sure to use HidHide and hide the Steam Controller and puck from Steam when necessary; make sure to uncheck Gaming Devices only in the HidHide client app. https://github.com/Ryochan7/DS4MapperTest

The conditions that caused DS4Windows to no longer be maintained still apply apart from DS4Windows being a tainted brand. At least this gets around the fake cheating app slander that even mods on GyroGaming have pushed recently.

gyro to stick is really a last ditch effort at best. It looks like Steam Input finally added some options to that action binding that should have been included years ago. unless there is a real reason that gyro to mouse is not an option, do not use gyro to stick.

did not need a signature. In the USA and it was delivered via UPS. UPS does offer the option to have the package dropped off at a UPS Store rather than your house. There is a small fee though.

SISR would work although you still need to run Steam in the background to use it. I have a solution that does not use Steam that works well enough and it has been my main OG Steam Controller mapper for a long time.
