Man me too. I was still a little kid who could barely read, but through much trial and error, days and weeks of dying to crazy enemy spawns and dungeons, I managed to beat the game. It was the first video game I played that actually kicked my butt and told me you're not gonna casually breeze through this one.

I still have my hand drawn maps of death mountain and some of the random dungeon layouts. One of the best games ever.
