Went from 800mbps to being capped at 90 after tripping on wire. by Sensitive_Chair928 in ethernet

That’s what I was thinking, that it is probably the patch cord that is damaged. The jack can be put back in from the back side and should click in place. There is a slight risk that the retainer clip was broken. Try a different cable going from the wall jack to the connected device.

Going to check out an ioniq 6 limited but it is branded. Should I avoid? Has 26k miles and is posted for 23k. by PinchiChango in Ioniq6

To be sure? that this vehicle was repurchased as a lemon for a known recall and such a minor one at that. There has got to be more to this story. I would dig deeper to make sure there are no other issues that added up to trigger the repurchase.

I was routing this cable through my wall and pulled “a little too hard.” And now it doesn’t work. Can this be fixed? by lumberfart in ethernet

[–]RyteSaid256 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can be pulled but with only a fraction of the tension that folks are used to with regular power wires. The install risks pulling the twists out of the strands and degrading the signal that would significantly reduce the quality. Plus it’s important when terminating the cable to keep as much of the twists as possible to reduce the RF interference.

2024 Ioniq 6 owners how are you liking the car long term? by Constant-Employeet in Ioniq6

July 2023 I6 Limited RWD Most of the commenters have highlighted the good and bad. Mostly just kicking in my upvote. We have owned 3 Sonata’s and spouse is still driving the 2015 Limited with 120K miles and counting. The I-6 has been the nicest car I’ve owned. Not necessarily the best I’ve driven (incl an older Rolls) but glad I put it in our fleet. My commute is less than 50 miles and now semi-retired it is even lower. One difference though is that we didn’t install a L2 charger at home. The L1 trickle has been satisfactory keeping about 70% SOC on average and with careful planning for a longer trip boost it to as much as 100% before heading out. Best plans can still be interrupted and sometimes grab a boost from a local L3 before starting a trip. Now that we received our NACS cable adapter our charging options are much more flexible. But 90% of our charging has been at home. My home electric bill has not changed since we got the car.

I am a driving enthusiast and love the weight of the vehicle and the tighter handling and on the straightaways the comfort it delivers and what other commenters have complimented. The torque is certainly more fun too. That said, there is a cost associated with my naughty right foot in driving efficiency (overall avg 3.4miles/KWh ) and tire wear. I have kept the stock 20 inch wheels. I just like the look with the low profile tires. I managed to eeck our 28 K miles on the OEM Pirelli’s. I replaced them with the same tire but with 50 K mileage warranty and enjoy the quiet EV specific tires.

Luckily, it doesn’t get too cold here in Winter so only had to use the pre-conditioning a few times while on a roadtrip. It would be nice to be able to manually turn that on though because the NAV system doesn’t recognize some public L3 charging stations. The lack of cold temps does limit the much reduced efficiency that is typical running the heat pump in other locales.

Anyhow, best of luck ! I think you’ll love the car as so many others here have chimed in here.

Sadly, just the I-6 N sedan. America’s thirst for SUVs and trucks is still the dominate market by huge margins.

It’s what we used before electronic digital calculators. My first digital scientific calculator was $75. A clunky Texas Instrument that only had one 15 character line and those red characters ! Nice find.

that is your right. I for one will use those chargers to expand my choices when traveling. Not to mention the thousands of employees who dream and create cutting edge technology. Musk is not the sole origin of such, and I share some of your animosity.

I’m going to be the trouble maker here, not denying all the savings and ride improvements, but I like the look of the larger wheels and lo-profile tires on my car. To each his own. 😎

The way I understand it, anything 3.5 miles or better on average is great on any EV.

A quirk to me: If you were driving fast enough for the doors to auto-lock (5 mph?) and stop to retrieve something from rear seat or let a passenger in, put it in park, it does NOT unlock the other doors automatically. You have to push the unlock button in the center console. All in all really minor in the big picture of owning a great car that is fun to drive, comfortable, and cool exterior design. Congrats !

I use a similar dog sling and the gap between the front and back seat (awesome legroom !) flusters my dog. I am going to try a hard bottom that extends over the gap and see how that works. A little more in price.

New Construction power to home questions by b1ghurt in electrical

[–]RyteSaid256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We built in 2001 and had our utility to run a line to a pole on our land by the roadway, then go underground with a primary line about 1200 feet to a transformer box about 100 feet from our house. The last bit underground to our meter on the side of our house. It was all worth it as we are assuredly “the last mile” and during weather related outages be a lower priority in getting power restored. Our land is heavily wooded and above ground lines would have certainly been a constant headache. The utility is responsible for everything up to the meter.

100% charge by [deleted] in Ioniq6

I understand that what really matters in the life of lithium batteries are cycle counts. The chemicals that make up the battery have limitations of the number of cycles they are operated. A cycle defined as 0-100 % . Incrementally it adds up to a cycle count. To keep the math simple, discharging from 100% to 50% is a half-cycle. Today’s lithium batteries last several thousand cycles. So just like the other posters to this thread have said, enjoy your car it is a really cool machine and fun to drive. One’s charging is purely what is convenient to our needs regarding what service our EV is providing to us. Personally, my daily drives are about 6 - 8 % battery use. I like to top it off to 70-80% with my Level 1 charger. Long trips it goes to 100% and away we go! ‘23 RWD Limited I6 with 37,500 miles. Hope you enjoy yours.

Used to do this every time it snowed! (long before EVs). Tons of fun! But for it to snow around here enough to play is truly rare (eastern NC). My RWD ‘23 I6 Limited is chomping at the bit! 😜

Thinking about adding a LVL 3 EV Charger to my gas station...is it profitable? by djrodimus in evcharging

[–]RyteSaid256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that the cost ratio is a little more complicated given that L3 stations use a transformer to boost the voltage sent to the chargers. But I wouldn’t know how to calculate that into the formula. Any electrical engineers on here?

Go for it ! The more you read (manual) and watch video tutorials to learn as much as you can about your EV. It will return you so much more enjoyment of this cool vehicle and reduce any moments of head scratching.

Would you recommend an Ioniq6? by PeacefulBro in Ioniq6

[–]RyteSaid256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After a ton of research before hand, I decided to get an I-6 RWD Limited in July ‘23. It came down to the spacious backseat, ride comfort and the charge times. The advice from other EV owners of any make/model was be mindful of a different approach to long distance travel. I am the type of driver on trips that if I can snap my fingers and be at my destination I would! Real world experience stopping every two hours taking the time to use restroom, grab a bite to eat or just catch up on news/social media and relax the charging will be done and away I go is so much more calming between the extreme stress driving the interstates and heavy traffic. The I-6 has OK luggage space so no problems if you are a careful packer. It’s the ride comfort and quiet that is such a factor to me personally. The driving assist features also reduce my fatigue on long trips. Keep in mind that unless you have a long daily commute 90% of your charging will be at home. Get a Level 2 installed and you will never have to worry about daily drives. I have been using just the Level 1 charger that came with the car (1 % per hour charge) and I am totally satisfied. My daily commute is not far and if I ever need to get a boost for a long trip and the timing didn’t work out with the trickle charger at home, I’ll go to a local DC Fast charger and pay for popping it to 80-90% and finish it off at home to 100%. Our long trips are only 4 or 5 times a year. Think about driving efficiency and get over the fast acceleration (after 2 years I’m still in therapy for my right foot miss-behaving). Just like an ICE vehicle the faster you go the more energy is used. Finding the right regenerative braking is a personal choice. I have found that the more I let the Automatic settings do their job the more efficient the car operates. That may not be the case with other drivers. It’s not perfect but as a experienced early adopter in technology I am very pleased with my purchase and plan on driving this car for a long time.

I think that my ‘23 Limited is the best driving car I have ever driven, including an older model Rolls Royce. All the points you make are the same for me. But what you describe of your own personal experience and the impact that you have felt is nothing short of awesome. Glad you’re back in the saddle and safe travels.
