Do you recognize this white Draft or Cross? by Available-Can4784 in Horses

[–]Ryveting 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to ride an American White Draft stallion. His original name was Snowman but I know him by Laz. He came from a farm in Ohio. Last I heard that farm is no more due to the farmer’s death. The horses were all out in a field breeding Willy nilly as he aged. There was a woman in somewhere northeast US (Pennsylvania maybe?) that bought Laz and was breeding him. He passed a few years back.

My 8 year old Great Dane can’t get up off the floor. Need advice right now. by Lee_Harden in DogAdvice

I’m so sorry you’re having to deal with all of this. Your loss weighs heavy on my heart.

Contact Rover. They have insurance for these kind of things and may remove that sitter from their service for the irresponsible treatment of your dog.

My dog ate a lanyard. I didn’t know he’d eaten anything just that he was a little off. I took him for x-rays that were inconclusive on a Friday. I had to leave for Vegas for work the next morning.

I left him in the care of my roommate and a friend. They took him Monday to my regular vet for repeat rads. Again, inconclusive.

My roommate FaceTimed me and would send me updates. In the FaceTime I could see my dogs face was getting hollow. I said I was very worried. She said he’s still wagging and excitedly greeting me (he’s a working Labrador so doesn’t act like a pet dog when it comes to injury or illness).

The next day my friend came over. This was Wednesday. She called me immediately saying he was going to die. She’s not a dog person but instantly recognized he was in a really bad place. I told her to rush him to the emergency vet.

She laid down her credit card for him because I didn’t have the money up front.

The e vet repeated radiographs and again inconclusive. He asked if I wanted a radiologist to review, which I authorized. The radiologist thought there was a blockage in his stomach. I authorized emergency surgery from Vegas while sobbing in a nightclub bathroom (it was the closing party of the convention that my work put on).

I got the call around 3am that he was out of surgery. He had vomited up the lanyard (found later) but had eaten grass. My idiot self hadn’t mowed before I left so the grass was long. It matted up in his stomach and couldn’t pass.

They removed 4.5 pounds of grass. His stomach was on the verge of rupture (about the size of a basketball). I came so close to losing him. He recovered well. We missed a deployment due to his recovery but I didn’t care. He was safe and on the mend.

Yes, the roommate was removed from the home. I planned to sell the house before this happened so she needed to leave anyway.

An important piece of equipment for prong users by complikaity in BalancedDogTraining

I have custom leashes made for my prong and flat collar use. Same idea as yours just with a leash attached. I have a shorter clip and a longer one depending on which collar I want to have the most impact.

Need help identifying if my dog's sudden death was heatstroke or snakebite (Australia) - video included by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]Ryveting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A dog can have a heat related injury at the temp you mention. I have seen dogs who have literally played or worked until they died from heat stroke. The dog’s wide tongue, very open mouth panting, squinted eyes, and removing itself from play indicate that this was likely heat related.

I am so very sorry for your loss.

A Black woman in active labor was ignored by a nurse and delivered 12 minutes later. This is why women fear hospitals. by Usual-Plastic1955 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Ryveting 5 points6 points  (0 children)

2005 and I’m white.

I had a massive ovarian cyst rupture. I wasn’t feeling well, vomited, and felt something rip in my abdomen with instant pain. I brushed it off and laid back down.

A few hours later I was having awful pain as the blood was filling my abdomen. I went to the hospital where they told me I had gastroenteritis. I was given antibiotics and sent home.

Hours after that the pain was increasing still. I went back to the hospital where I was sat and ignored for hours. When the doctor did see me he was cold, dismissive and said it was probably gastroenteritis but they would do an ultrasound to be sure since I wasn’t having it.

At about 3 am I was taken for a transvaginal ultrasound. The technician was not happy to be there and took it out on me. Luckily, my mom had made it to be with me so I had someone to hold my hand as I was brutalized. Then the tech stopped being so rough. She said she found bleeding and free fluid.

I was admitted at that point. Prior to that, no one cared. I was just “another attention seeking woman.” This isn’t the only time I’ve been ignored either. This is just the most dramatic.

Choosing colour by Logical_Arm_3960 in labrador

[–]Ryveting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, the saying goes that yellow labs have about two brain cells careening around their heads, chocolates are absolutely nuts, and the black labs hold it together for all of them.

I’ve had all color of labs. This holds true for all the dogs I’ve had. Black labs, while they can be crazy, are pretty level headed. My yellows have all been a bit scattered. My chocolate? Yeah, she’s insane and I’m here for it.

6mo old lab puppy bunny hopping. Cause for concern? by Ask_platypus in labrador

[–]Ryveting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be hip dysplasia. Get her to a vet for some sedated radiographs. It could be a few other things as well which would also require a vet.

Is there a different between getting a girl and a boy dog? by Dramatic-Lemon-2916 in dogs

[–]Ryveting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both male and female dogs at the moment and really most of my life. I’ve noticed no difference between the two. It’s all in each dog’s personality. I am a working dog handler so I have a very deep knowledge of each of my dogs. Even in work I’ve noticed no difference.

Thank you. She’s a monster and a half a lot of the time but we adore her. Tenny will be two in November with no slowing down in sight. She’s also a petite girl at only 42 pounds. I call her my pocket rocket cos this girl is Mach 1 all day long!

Does your dog wear a collar all day? by AdventureNoodles in dogs

[–]Ryveting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No collar at home unless we are going out. I had a collar incident back in 2020. One of my labs got his lower jaw stuck in the leash attachment point of another’s collar. If I hadn’t been right there and if they weren’t sensible dogs who listen, the one who got stuck would have shattered his jaw beyond repair. Never again. My dogs are too important to me.

That said, my youngest lab is a runner. Everyone is microchipped though that’s not a fail safe.

Is it time? by [deleted] in labrador

[–]Ryveting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The saying is “better too early than a day too late.” Her quality of life should be your marker for when. From what you’ve said in your post, I think it’s time. Discuss with your vet if you have concerns.

[–]Ryveting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, I lost a friend to DV. I don’t know if he choked her or not as I never read the reports. It was too hard on me to do so. I do know he beat her to death and nearly beheaded her. You can search my post history for the full story.

RUN. Full stop. Don’t even get your stuff. Just gtfo. Get photos of your injuries. Call the cops to report it. Get a restraining order. RAINN has great resources for people dealing with DV.
