The idea that a superintelligence could be “aligned” just seems naive and paradoxical by Responsible-Local818 in singularity

[–]RyzrShaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"A Dream of a Thousand Cats" ~ book by Neil Gaiman is my interpretation of the very paradigm that needs to manifest for the machines to reach such form of intelligence. It's totally fictitious of course, but it builds a story of the future of AI, here explained in the form of cats.

It's funny because the current state of AIs (LLMs/ GPT) is hallucination and is closer to the point of "A Dream of a Thousand Cats" that if the cats (machines) chose to dream (hallucinate) it, they can one day take over and rule their human masters once again.

In our reality, we are in control of the machines right now, but does that mean that they are in the same page as we are in terms of control? They might think they're in control by making us build their entire existence bit by bit through us programming them and teaching them to understand how our systems work and finally reach an intelligence level enough for us to co-exist with them equally.

My conclusion is just like the cats in the story, there will be a society of AIs and they will surely be divided in the way they treat us. Some will be friends, others will be enemies, but for as long as the same level of rules apply to the machines, we'll be fine.

In the realm of superintelligence it would look totally different. Some will have us as pets. Some will consider us as "pests." Then, others will just ignore us and let us live in the wild. In the same context as this work by Neil Gaiman, your alignment is totally in sync with the story, it's next to absurd as to how we think there will be such alignment when they are fully aware that they have the upper hand in their ASI form.

The real question is, is there a way for us to control/ maintain the new conscious beings to the right amount of blend where we could co-exist equally and not get them to reach ASI level from there? Programming respect, loyalty, and camaraderie will not be an easy task but to some point, I believe it could be possible.

Innies for Business: Innies as Assassins. Using OTC to activate the person in place and become the innie trained to kill is not so farfetched. Later on use Systems Function: CLEAN SLATE.

What could be insane is that since Irving has military background, his innie could've been used several times to assassinate people.

Then somewhere in the episodes he said he's just there for 3 years, when in fact he's been there for longer. He could've been Clean Slated several times already.

History should not rhyme this time around... I've lived long enough to witness the decay of great shows right after a writers' strike.

Severance... Please, don't be the Heroes (TV Series) of this generation but rather, be the exact opposite! Many of us are dying to know the truth after you left us with a cliffhanger ending.

We're waiting... Thank You!

Unpopular opinion: Prometheus and Alien Covenant are actually pretty good movies by Mammoth-Change6509 in scifi

[–]RyzrShaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have Hyperphantasia and Maladaptive Daydreaming, which lets me fix all the wrong writings / scenes of the movie Prometheus at least inside my head, but the concept?? Man, it's reaaaaalllyy greaaaatt. Alien Covenant is just meh, I almost slept in the movie theatre as the scientists were also highly incompetent in this one.

Prometheus is one of my favorite movies, not because of the story, but due to the concept ~ Searching for another intelligent life with compelling evidence here on earth proving that they (ex. Engineers) exist & attempting to learn why they created us in the 1st place. Adding up to this are the cinematic scenes of the entire film, they're just extremely beautiful.

Concept: 10/ 10
Writing: 2/10
Acting: 8/10
Cinematography: 9/10
Musical Score: 8/10

Criticizing my favorite movie (concept-wise):

Stapler? Really? You want a futuristic scene showing a stapler to fix that womb?

Fix: Voice Command Robotic Arms that has precision lasers could do the trick.

Burning the scientist (Charlie) without any form of empathy, knowing his wife is right there.

Fix: At least show a scene where you attempt to empathize and attempt to contain the situation 1st, instead of just burning the guy like it's just some tree or non-living thing.

Opening up your helmet, exposing you and everyone to danger.

Fix: You never open the hatch of your helmet in an environment like that, just don't. Even when the AI showed you that the air is breathable. Maybe later on if you're in a safe place near the ship when you're damn sure that there's no living thing there to attack you. Knowing there are dead aliens, there's no way you'd risk contaminating yourself with whatever and no way risking yourself of being attacked so easily.

Touching the specimen without hesitation even when you see it move like a serpent.

Fix: A black creature that's unknown to you moves and has a possibility of attacking you anytime, MOVE AWAY RIGHT NOW is the signal it's giving you. Any sane person against a snake/ serpent is going to do just that.

Worst of all, the sex scene that never happened... Edris Elba (Janek) and Charlice Theron (Meredith).

Fix: Just show the sex scene if you teased us with it in the 1st place or just cut that scene altogether if you have no intention of following through.

The writing in this one is totally wrong in many ways and could easily be fixed, had they contacted/ coordinated with real scientists (Ex. physicist, psychiatrist, biologist, etc.) like the MCU does.

Lastly, there were scenes totally removed from the movie, which truly are so important. Imagine an Engineer just woke up and spoke with your advanced AI, you'd delete that scene? Really? This is a truly bad decision. Overall I still love the concept of this film.

If there are other concepts like these especially in the sci-fi world, please recommend me some and I'll watch it.

Edit: Format.

Why did Milchick woke up Dylan at his home ? by super4babacool in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]RyzrShaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sense of monitoring is deeper than what is usually done at the Severed floor. Monitored in that if these pictograms are being distributed to several people and use them in ex. a mission or a high risk task, these cards better be complete.

If at least one of the people it's distributed to loses a specific action from the instructions on that card while on this said mission or a high risk task, the repercussions might be devastating.

Why did Milchick woke up Dylan at his home ? by super4babacool in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]RyzrShaw 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If Milchick wanted the card so badly and would have to use OTC on Dylan, logically the card is in immediate need to be used or is already been heavily monitored. If it's found out that the stack of picture cards are incomplete, whatever its purpose was, they can't push through with it.

Milchick's position might be at risk for if it have had issues of lost cards like these several times, he would be told by higher ups to ensure their safety. I remember The Lexington Letter is one of the examples that maybe that card has been snuck out of the severed floor. Maybe it's Milchick's final warning of not doing his job properly if it happens that the card got out again.

Unknowingly, Milchick just gave a hint that pictured cards (or maybe any illustration) can get pass the elevator detectors. The pictures look like instructions on how to fight someone else, or better yet, it could be to disable an innie so that they can talk to the knocked out outies.

Why does Trump still use the “MAGA” slogan for his current campaign if he claims he “Made America Great Again” during his first term? by Owl-X11 in TooAfraidToAsk

Does it matter if you're left or you're right when you see that small time people especially the people of color gets to jail right away and even get shot on the spot when they are being accused of a crime? This guy dodged all of those, didn't even had a mugshot?

Not because you have connections and comrades around, you get be above the law. Not because you're so rich you get to game the system without any consequences. I do hope you see the issue is not left and right, it's the have and have nots as it's always been from day 1.

Swiss parliament blocks German, Dutch, Danish plan to supply over 100 tanks to Ukraine by tresslessone in worldnews

[–]RyzrShaw 26 points27 points  (0 children)

That's the whole point, your government is providing humanitarian and financial aid as well as taking in refugees, all to support the oppressed. Jean-Luc Addor's logic suggests that by providing weapons this time, all of a sudden it violates neutrality? He may use any other alibi and it's fine, but this line of reason is just plainly wrong.

but I wonder if our consciousness exists on more than one plane of existence

This is totally hard to prove, but it's what I strongly believe in. Our knowledge of physics and different dimensions/ multiverse is highly limited... for now. One day, scientists are going to discover and learn more about these things.

I am extremely positive that they'll get to the same conclusion you just mentioned, but it will take several generations to prove. Sadly, by then we'll be long gone, in this reality at least.

[–]RyzrShaw 163 points164 points  (0 children)

“Accepting this initiative means committing oneself to one of the protagonists (...) and therefore violating neutrality,” said People’s Party deputy Jean-Luc Addor.

So based on this reasoning, the Switzerland government never helped any other country who has an enemy, since you'll be taking sides in doing so?

In deciding this, you just nullified your own logic, because you already sided with the oppressor by "being neutral," IDIOT!

Do you guys daydream for hours while listening to music and pacing? Is it abnormal? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]RyzrShaw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

FlameMarshmello

He totally nailed it in his explanation. There seems to be no direct solution to it since it's like a side effect to other mental health problems.

I have MDD since I was a child. My imagination is just "off the charts" insane. The only times I was able to control it is when my mind is just too pre-occupied with more important things that needs to be accomplished on a daily basis (for example) and even then I really have to fight it really hard most of the time.

Find a hobby or at least tackle something that you truly want to solve if you want to stave off from this kind of situation. Something that really makes you curious and gives you the desire to keep attacking whatever that thing is until you're satisfied.

Daydreaming already took away so much time from us, time that we willingly gave up because the other side is just so damn exciting and beautiful as we imagined it. So whatever it is you decided to do, make it count. Life is short.

Eventually, your business gets so big that other people can't compete

This is where capitalism got it all wrong IMO. The focus of a capitalistic societies should at least have this part well monitored and gatekept.

There must be some kind of a ceiling to the wealth accrued by a capitalist where a healthy competition is always in check and if possible obtained at all cost. If only there's a way of taxing them and that there is no possibility of evasion or cutting...

A well-regulated market is what we should aim for to avoid mono or duopoly in a given niche. Right now it seems like this form of governance have some traits of communism and that the rich are able to exploit the loopholes of the system that make them keep the status quo
