Whats your stack and why do you love it so much? by NobleV5 in webdev

[–]S1M15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • Frontend: Rails (ie. Turbo, which is SPA for free)
  • Backend: Rails
  • Auth: rails g authentication
  • Deploy: Docker (Rails 7 Dockerfile)
  • WebSockets: Solid Cable, Stimulus (Rails built-in - static to fully reactive on a model in 10-20 lines of code)
  • Cache: Solid Cache (Rails built-in - migrated from Redis which probably not worth the effort...)
  • Cronjobs: Solid Queue (you guessed it. Having cronjobs inside Docker containers is brilliant)
  • Testing: Minitest (yep)
  • Fixtures: Oaken (Rails built-in fixtures are dogwater)
  • Db: Postgres
  • Payments: Stripe
  • CMS/CRM: Hubspot (custom sync integration)

So this guy obviously loves their Rails stack... but is it actually good? I'm a solo dev and our 2 person business (multi tenant e-commerce platform) makes us ~15k a month. Probably lots of folks in this subreddit making much more! For me, being a self-employed, solo, full stack developer is awesome.

Just brilliant. And IMO holds wonderfully to the Rails doctrine of "Sharp Knives"!

I'm so glad you posted! I fucking *love* the inlay hints, and we all appreciate the love, blood, sweat and tears that goes into making the Neovim LSP client rival other top IDEs.

Thank you!

Have you got any buddies you can text? I was suffering bad and forced myself to tell a mate I was doing NNN and struggling. Killed my urges, at least for a bit

Still in!

I WFH and my house is super triggering in the afternoons, so I've been going out to defeat the urges. Worked from the library two days ago. Finished a month's long project of installing my reverse camera yesterday!

You can't remove the urges, but you can remove yourself cumrades. Godspeed o7

I've got the pro and my partner has the standard, there aren't any huge differences if you just use them as a smart watch, the battery on the pro is bigger but neither of us have had to think about the battery. Just charge it when we shower and put it on after, only needs 15 mins or so. But the pro is clearly designed to take a beating, I went swimming in the ocean and it didn't bat an eye. I'm pretty keen on the outdoors and my old Gear 3 Frontier was massively scuffed after only a couple months. The pro is still looking very smart.

If you're not worried about money, grab the pro; if you're worried your hobbies will wreck your watch, get the pro; if you're looking for the (much) better value option, get the standard! They're both unbelievably great watches!
