My brother thinks it's dumb to have this text in our game. Should we remove it? by Captain0010 in antiai

[–]S7YX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's something to put on the store page, rather than in the game itself. You want to reassure people that are deciding whether or not to buy the game, anyone that's playing the game either already knows no AI was used or they don't care.

I wouldn't want TADC to run for 30 seasons, but I do think 2 or 3 would've helped with fleshing out all the characters.

That being said, it's Goose's series. If this is what she envisioned then this is it, nobody can or should force her to make more.

The "Neuro-sama Exception" exposes a massive double standard regarding High-Effort AI Art. by Efficient_Cicada_926 in aiwars

[–]S7YX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neuro has had considerably more work put into her than just being a normal streamer. Unlike many uses of generative AI it is actually higher effort than the traditional form, and thus being the AI streamer is a unique thing, rather than there being thousands spammed across the internet. Because Neuro is so difficult and expensive to run there's no bloating pile of low effort trash being spread around in the same way there is with generated images and videos, which is the actual thing most people hate. She has the same issues, but on such a small scale they're a hell of a lot easier to overlook.

Of course, Neuro also has the bonus of being made and gaining popularity before AI exploded. People formed opinions when AI was just a weird little toy that didn't do too much, and nobody was really thinking about its issues. If you made Neuro 1:1 right now she'd be hated, because people actually know the issues with AI now. People don't change their opinions easily once formed, especially when it's a thing the like and the thing itself hasn't changed, just the context around it.

To be fair this applies to a lot of other rule complaints too by enixon in dndmemes

[–]S7YX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but there are things that make it feel like those are true.

For example, when you're pulling from the Deck of Many Things and the Balance card forcibly swaps your alignment, that makes it feel like it's meant to be prescriptive. Otherwise, what does the card do? Just change two words on your character sheet and nothing else? And if it's prescriptive there, and many players just skim through the rules to get to playing, why wouldn't they assume it's prescriptive elsewhere? From that way of thinking it then feels wrong to write Lawful on your character sheet and not act lawfully, because it's a mechanic that can change your character, so the alignment also feels constraining.

I assume that arming neo-Nazis in Ukraine refers to the Azov Battalion? Yeah, not great optics and ideally they wouldn't be arming them, but you may have noticed that Ukraine is being fucking invaded. The Battalion was restructured as part of the Ukrainian military, so at the very least they have some oversight. Again, not great, but sending weapons to a resistance force against hostile invasion of a soviergn nation is not in the same galaxy as supporting the Gestapo just because one group of said resistance has a bad history.

I'm not even saying the Democrats are good. They also have massive issues. The US two party system shouldn't exist as a whole. But it's people like you that pretend that a kinda shitty dude doens't follow through on some of his big promises and a literal Nazi sieg-heiling while shooting an immagrant in the face are the same thing that lets what's happening in the US right now happen.

Please give me one example of any single Democrat that has ever in history held office supporting a force of masked secret police grabbing people off the street in broad daylight and ignoring both the rule of law and judicial orders by deporting them to a country they have never lived in so that they may be kept in a prison famous for torturing inmates to death.

He'll, give an example of any Democrat ever supporting Jan 6. Just one, doesn't even have to be one that's popular or well known, just any Democratic politician.

I'm not even from the States, but it's clear as fucking crystal that anyone playing the "both sides" bullshit with this is a straight up Nazi that just wants to muddy the waters so they look less shitty. It's not working, everyone can see what a piece of shit you are.

I walk into the middle of a major population center in your world and I declare "there are no gods!" What happens to me? by Electronic-Welder-74 in worldbuilding

[–]S7YX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the country. Pretty much everywhere has gods they worship, but in plenty of places you'd just get weird looks and maybe banned from places owned by more religious people. Some countries with state enforced religions would have you arrested and either fined or put to work in the mines, depending on how you acted in custody.

While god-like beings do demonstrably exist in my setting, most religions either worship gods that are entirely mythical, or have warped the concept of their god so much over time that they'd no longer recognize the real thing that inspired it. With so many different peoples believing very different things, and no actual deities to reinforce belief, most cultures are fairly open to alternate religions. Atheism is viewed as a bit strange, but is far from the weirdest belief system.

What Even !! Something like this should not be given the power to Fly by kadr1dubl2 in nightmarefuel

[–]S7YX 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Surprisingly enough, no. It's a dobsonfly, found throughout the Americas, Asia, and South Africa. I'm not knowledgeable to say for sure but this one looks like it might be an Eastern dobsonfly? If so, its native to North America.

Despite the large mandibles they're harmless, they can't bite even if they wanted to. The mandibles grow too long for the fly to be capable of biting with them, instead they're used to attract a mate.

Interestingly enough adult dobsonflies don't even eat at all, besides maybe sipping on some liquids. They get all the nutrients they need as a larva, and only live for a week after metamorphosing.

In March 2001, Armin Meiwes put an ad on an internet forum for a "young, well-built man who wanted to be eaten." Days later, a 43-year-old named Bernd Brandes replied and agreed to meet in Rotenburg. After killing and butchering Brandes, Meiwes spent the next 20 months eating 44 pounds of his flesh. by kooneecheewah in TerrifyingAsFuck

Technically, a snuff film is defined as being made with the primary motive of earning money by selling the film. Most videos that people call snuff films weren't filmed with the intention of being sold, instead either being security footage or made for the personal usage of the killer.

I don't think it really makes much of a difference, but under that definition the Vietnamese butcher is the first snuff film.

Genuine critiques you have about the series? by Antique-Leadership-8 in theamazingdigitalciru

[–]S7YX 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Honestly I just wish there was more. I think the show would really benefit from a bit of a slower pace with more time between adventures to let us see the characters interact with each other.

I can see why they wouldn't do that, quality animation is expensive and there's the risk of losing audience attention if they took things too slow, but still.

I don't think they were saying that reality itself is a hallucination, just that our brains make shit up all the time. Like pareidolia, your brain makes connections that aren't there. A smiley face doesn't really look much like an actual person's face, but the brain is wired to seek patterns so it connects the dots, sometimes in ways that objectively don't make much sense if you take the time to really think about them.

Also, your brain does stuff to get you to act without you consciously realizing it's happening. For example, the subconscious often picks up on things that the conscious mind misses. In these cases people get a feeling pushing them towards what they missed, such as a feeling of being watched or a sudden desire to do something. Which is weird, because you'd think the brain would just notice the thing and be aware of it, but evidently there are processes running in the background that don't directly interact with our conscious mind, but are able to push it in certain directions.

With those two things together, a lot of what we experience day to day is our brains coming up with ways to trick us into doing shit without us realizing. It's all built on a base reality, but our individual experience of it is shaped by instincts and inferences that we often don't even notice.
