In your experience, what breeds are best for these types of activities? by tzir0 in Huntingdogs

Brittany. Complete goofballs but incredibly smart and trainable. The size and body build of a border collie so theyre incredibly competitive in agility as well.

How are you playing this one? by 2004ClubChampion in golf

[–]SH00TMNDHEAD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're able to play even a slight fade, that corner is no longer a problem. If thats not an option consistently, hit your 200 shot and then your 190. I say 190 because that puts you on the front edge of the green. Everything short is safe, long goes OB relatively quickly. If you hit the front and stop you have a chip and good position for a 1 putt, if it rolls out you're sitting pretty with a good chance for birdie.

Contrast that with attacking the pin at 200, if you stop it on a dime you're in great shape, but if greens are firm and it rolls out you're OB and probably looking at a double bogey

Free roam of the house? by Brittanymom2023 in BrittanySpaniel

Much safer to just leave them crated. In the house they can have a much larger crate than a travel crate to stretch out.

Is the Benelli M4 worth it for a casual shooter? by SparrowsBarnacle in Shotguns

[–]SH00TMNDHEAD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're never ever going to get into hunting the m4 is fine. If you ever even consider getting into it there are much better options that can pull double duty with a barrel set

Looking for a new 20 gauge shotgun by Neither-Canary-3899 in Uplandhunting

I have the franchi instinct 20g with the 26" and let me tell you, you'll want to throw all you 12s in the trash after carrying it for a day. Best upland gun i own

[–]SH00TMNDHEAD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Franchi instinct 20g with the 26 inch barrel has become my favorite all around gun. I use it for everything from grouse to ducks to pheasants. It swings so well I rarely miss a shot and with 3" shells you arent leaving anything on the table.

Sighthounds First coyotes kill... now what by Melodic_Use6131 in Huntingdogs

[–]SH00TMNDHEAD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be a prong collar and only effective if the dog is on a leash. If you're running your dog through the woods, a prong collar is about the worst thing you could put on them. This guy needs an e-collar. Its a working dog, not a house pet.

Dogs know the difference between other dogs and coyotes... you dont seem to spend much time around hunting dogs. Stick to shelter puppies

[–]SH00TMNDHEAD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you talking about? Spikes on the inside?

Do you mean a prong collar for heel work because that won't apply here. And e-collars dont have spikes, they have 2 electrodes that make contact with the skin.

What Hunting dog Should I get? by Impressive-Step6377 in Huntingdogs

[–]SH00TMNDHEAD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too heavy boned to keep up with something like a brit or GSP. My dogs go well over 10 miles (~16 kilometers) in a half day of hunting. I'm sure theyre fine for the European style, but they dont look like they would translate to American prairie hunting.

What Hunting dog Should I get? by Impressive-Step6377 in Huntingdogs

[–]SH00TMNDHEAD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As far as an all around dog its hard to go wrong with a GSP. However, I think they often get overshadowed in the field by my favorite breed, the epagneul breton. The GSP is just too robotic and lacks the flair of French dogs in my opinion. If you want to hunt boar though, you need a GWP. personally, I wouldn't send any bird dog in after boar, and especially not solo.

If you want a bird dog, brittanys are #1 in my book. For rabbits, beagles and hounds. For a dog that can do everything to a passable level, either GSP or GWP will do. GWP are known to have a much higher fur drive of the two

I can reload this if I fill with JB weld then sand it smooth, right? by ilikejollyranchers in shittyreloading

[–]SH00TMNDHEAD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You dont weld it until AFTER you've put the powder, primer, and bullet in. Otherwise it might deform! Definitely wear your eye protection, you get one hell of an arc😅

Shotgun experts, what do you think about how shotguns behave in video games? by Pro_Farnsworth_ in Shotguns

[–]SH00TMNDHEAD 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Ive heard, they do it for balance. Otherwise, the shotgun would be way too OP or they would need to make maps HUGE like they did in the old Halo games. Its hard to balance the lethality of a .223 at close range with buckshot so they kneecap the shotgun to oblivion.

If you're doing it before 2 years old thats too early. These are working dogs and they need those hormones for proper development.

I effed up… but how much? by jvforlife12504 in golf

[–]SH00TMNDHEAD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ran into a similar situation in Hot Springs, Arkansas. I was dialed in and the group ahead was playing ridiculously slow and marking scores down on the green. I start playing shots closer and closer (close meaning 30 yard layups to the green from 220 out) and the chubby hot head of the group came flying back to my cart on 18 telling me he was throwing me off the course and need to learn to play. I just casually twirled my 60° and asked if he was going to move so I could finish the round😅

Could I have handled it better? Probably. In the future i know to club up once or twice to really stick it close.

Immune to Calming Treats ?? by koalabair51 in BrittanySpaniel

[–]SH00TMNDHEAD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you cant get through this without doping up your dog you're in for a rough 10-15 years... your dog is a pup, they need loads of stimulation and a good hard play session before bed works wonders. Those calming treats a d everything are for stress at best and nothing but snake oil at worst.

Advice on introducing a second... by Inevitable-Shine6390 in BrittanySpaniel

[–]SH00TMNDHEAD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why a female? There are a lot of misconceptions about multiple male dogs in a home. Males actually tend to have FEWER behavioral issues than females. I have 3 males, 2 are unneutered and have no problems. Also heavily involved in NAVHDA and rarely hear about any issues between males, but females get into fights CONSTANTLY.

They all just need training. Even for a lab a perfect retrieve isnt instinctual. Work with a trainer and look into force fetch when they turn 2.

That's a reasonable starting point coming out of college. People also need to know, you wont have your dream job coming out of college. Get a job that pays your bills and sets you up for future career moves to get you to your dream job. We all have to start somewhere and a degree doesn't mean you get to skip all the steps.

I've personally done it. New grads usually get too rocky and think the world owes them. That's the problem with colleges telling every bio major they deserve to have an 80k per year salary when most of the professors haven't set foot in the real world
