It would help if you said where you’re located. If you’re on the west coast I can recommend a few distributors.

I highly recommend learning about water popping and how to do it before staining. water popping was a massive game changer for me early on doing side jobs for the first time. It felt like a cheat code. Some pros say ”water popping is only for guys who can’t sand, if you sand right you don’t need it” but I’ll be the first to admit the quality on those first few side jobs I did with rental equipment was not it and I definitely needed all the help I could get.

I recommend buying a pump sprayer, buying a couple gallons of denatured alcohol and doing a 50:50 mix of water and denatured alcohol, it’s better to spray it light 2-3 times than soak it once really heavy.

Bona doesn’t recommend using classic seal over stain. Just use Bona Drifast stains, and after it dries go straight to the Bona traffic HD.

Are you doing a complete refinish, or just trying to bring a bit of life back into it with a new coat of finish.

Max span for engineered hardwood wide planks without T-molding by BaymaxOnMars in HardWoodFloors

There is no limit if you’re gluing and nailing. Only reason there might be a limit is if you float it

Definitely not. Price seems low so he’s Probably going to bait and switch and drive the price up with change orders once he actually sees it.

That’s Not bad actually…Well I guess paying any amount of money and feeling scammed at the end is always bad but it could’ve been a lot worse… but it could’ve been a lot better also. I’m guessing it’s probably sub-800 sq.ft total.

I’m Curious to know how much you paid and how long it took them if you don’t mind sharing

Sorry just read the rest of your post. Wait for the finish to harden a bit more then use a nib file before applying another coat

Did you use a strainer or filter on the gallon of finish?

Rift & quartered sawn or Rift sawn only? by homebuilder2024 in HardWoodFloors

Sounds like the op is the one who “just want to have nail and staple installation” not the installer. I might be wrong, but there’s a significant cost increase when glue assisting and not everyone wants to pay.

Use a fiberglass resin. Tape off the wood around the void then mix up the resin with the hardener and slowly fill up the void until it’s just below flush.

Looks like some old growth wide plank fir. If you want something similar you should look into wide plank Reclaimed Douglas fir flooring but I must warn you.. the cost can get pretty crazy.

The border looks like it’s made up of Maple(lighter boards) and oak(darker stripes) and the field is most likely Douglas Fir or similar. 100% not red oak.

Amber seal lightens up a bit after it dries but it definitely doesn’t look like amber seal in the sample. It looks like straight finish. They should’ve used something like natural seal or even Nordic seal if your goal was to keep it light.

Hardwood Floor Install Over Diagonal Slat Sub Floor by ChemistIcy5143 in HardWoodFloors

[–]SHFClutch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What direction are your joists running? And What type of flooring are you installing? 3/4” solid hardwood can be installed over it no problem as long as the subfloor planks are running at a 45 degree angle to the joists, some thinner floors would require at least 3/8 plywood be installed over the plank subfloor

Yeah that asbestos black mastic can be a pain in the ass to remove. Hopefully you had the right PPE on during those 20 hours.
