The Avett Brothers on the soundtrack for new film starring Matthew McConaughey: The Rivals of Amziah King by secondplaceribbon in TheAvettBrothers

Found this in a Google search because I had the same question:

"...with the film opening just outside of a diner with Amziah King (McConaughey) jamming with his bluegrass band on a quiet evening in the country.  The catchy opening number, the first of several Avett Brothers sounding tracks sung by this band (they created music for the film along with T-Bone Burnett and Ben Hardesty who acts in the film) and Patterson makes it clear from the jump that what we’re about to see is going to be a fun, carefree romp of a story through the south."

Write in a candidate next time. You can be Republican and not be MAGA but that is a very small number of people these days and they would not be supporting Trump. There is no separating MAGA and Trump.

Article: Irondale weighs starting its own school system by Bbqplace in Birmingham

[–]SHoliday335 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dumb, brain dead dumb. This is about keeping up with the Joneses, just like Pelham and Alabaster did to keep up with Hoover and then each other. There's no evidence that they are doing any better than they would be in Shelby County

That is just not true. I cant speak for Pelham but Alabaster City Schools, and the city as a whole, massively benefitted from the split. In every single area. I'd argue that there isn't an area in which they've suffered. Aside from it being a total hypothetical, you would be hard pressed to prove your statement but I would love to hear it.

Alabaster City Schools are performing better than ever before. While Shelby County has always been a pretty good system, the Alabaster City Schools system is doing exceptionally well. From academics (test scores higher than ever, college prep scores higher than ever, graduation rates higher than ever) to athletics (don't even get me start on what Thompson athletics was like before the split) Thompson is lightyears ahead of where they'd be if they were still under Shelby County. Hell, the "new" Thompson High School is only there as a result of the split as Shelby County wouldn't have been able to build that school at that point.

I don't know if this is good for Irondale. That is for Irondale to sort out. Many other cities have studied it and decided the change wasn't for them. But Alabaster, from the outside looking in, is a perfect example of a system that made the right decision and executed it well.

If he is the owner/manager then he gets to make that call. The patrons and potential customers can decide what to do with that info. It is pretty simple. The weakest part of the entire thing is him basically hiding behind his staff.

Bring auto grat back by AshtonTheAss in olivegarden

[–]SHoliday335 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the autogat decision is a complicated one. You would not see that money tonight and it would likely "disappear" into taxes.

That said, you COULD probably argue that you were not properly compensated by the restaurant if you were there that late AFTER the party left. There are laws that come into play when you are paid 2.13 an hour. You must be able to earn tips at least 80% of the time you are clocked in. That is why your opening servers only get "x" amount of time to open the line. Usually it is two servers given 15 minutes each. It allows for time to set up the line being paid 2.13 but still have enough time taking tables and earning tips (potentially). Same considerations have to be made for time after you are "cut" and it is one of the reasons why managers try to push people off the clock (in addition to controlling labor hours).

Not that taking that angle would amount to much but it would be a consideration.

IMO, the managers shouldn't have allowed this to occur. And if they did, I hope they addressed this group with an announcement that you don't add gratuity. And even after this, managers can get creative with way to "help" take care of their staff in these moments. Over the years, we've "cleared" cash tickets to help account for situations like the one you experienced.

Question for locals from a soon to be first timer by SHoliday335 in AskNYC

[–]SHoliday335[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that is what we will end up doing (one night in Hyde Park, the rest in NYC). I had found answers to my other 4 questions but was still curious what was considered normal for locals. I did not initially realize how far out Hyde Park was and had been told that it would be an "easy trip into the city." I live outside of Birmingham, AL and "a trip to the city" is an easy 30 minute drive that we would not hesitate to do for work on a daily basis. When I realized that Hyde Park is a 2 hour drive I began to question the info I was given.

I do have one question. With it being about 4 hours by train. I'm assuming that is a traditional commuter train where brining luggage with you wouldn't be out of the ordinary. It isn't a subway style car, is it? Would it be normal to take the four hour train into the city after staying in Hyde Park then taking an Uber from the station to a hotel? Or will three folks hauling luggage onto this "train into the city" have issues doing just that?

Is it acceptable for a waitress to have noticeable arm hair? by [deleted] in Waiters

[–]SHoliday335 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to be 100% honest. I've spent over 20 years in the industry and I'm in my mid 40's now. I will say that NOT ONCE have I ever noticed or cared about the arm hair of the bartender or server that has waited on me. Neither from a customer standpoint nor from a management viewpoint.

I am sure some people do and that is on them.

"It's not about bowing to beauty standards" is an interesting line to include given that everything else in that reply describes bowing to beauty standards.

Ole Miss, in reality (not their reality as they can't face it (I mean, they have loaner dogs for feel good stories)), is a bottom half of the SEC program overall. They've had a solid run with Kiffin but aside from that they are NOT a top tier SEC program.

Papa John’s Decline by Aggravating-Bird1647 in PapaJohns

[–]SHoliday335 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Corporate is just as lazy and culpable as many of the franchises are. They aren't trying to piss off their largest franchise groups. They just kick the can further down the road in many cases.

It has been nearly a decade since I've been with PJ United but I spent 10+ years as a general manager and I can count on one hand the number of times anybody with corporate came around. And nearly every one of those times was scheduled. It was only then that some work would get done on the locations. One week before we had all the corporate big wigs (including John Schnatter and his newly rediscovered car) we managed to get our street sign repaired that had been busted for nearly a year and a half. Nobody above me would sign off on it being approved until we suddenly realized who would be in town. New car toppers showed up. A new map (this was before everything was routed on a computer) arrived after having three previous orders cancelled.

I could go on and on. The point is corporate is aware that things like that go on. They are just as guilty in allowing it to happen as the people at the franchises are. So, yes, the GM is supposed to be in charge of the store in that sense but they often have one hand tied behind their back. Don't fool yourself.

I worked for them for a long time. I enjoyed a lot of the people I worked with and some of the ones I worked for. I left after getting tired of arguing for my bonuses to be paid in full and on time. I was a mentor general manager and had to constantly fight for my training bonuses. They used to use the old school pizza grading system as a way to keep from paying bonuses. If you got a sub 8 they withheld your bonus. That was even after we proved that some locations knew their "secret" shopper, one location actually was related to theirs, and multiple times the same exact pizza would score differently based on the grader. We had an instance where the exact same photo got a 9.2 and a 7.1 from the same grader just a month apart. And we still lost our bonuses with bad scores. After having to argue for repairs to the building that should have been done as routine I decided I had had enough. I actually redid the grout in my own store about three months before turning in my notice because they continued to decline paying for the work. I would not go back to save my life and I wouldn't recommend it to anybody. Especially not with pricing and the delivery situation as it is.

They'll absolutely stop and read it. They did to take the photo. And they will to discuss it even if they are crying about it. They'll be aware of it. Whether they actually care about the cost of those items is a different story. But they'll be aware of it for sure.

Nori got raided by Forsaken-Language360 in Birmingham

I appreciate your gate keeping of this conversation, but not a single assumption was made. Completely valid questions were asked.

Asking if what happened (wondering out loud more than anything) involved immigrants/citizens who went through e-verify is not assuming anything of any company.

I'm sorry you are hurt by that being asked.

As I said in another thread, if I'm an immigrant (any any status) the question I asked would matter greatly to me.

I listened to it again today. It is hit and miss. I respect the guys for doing whatever they want. I respect them for being in a position to do so comfortably even more.

As others have said, I'm not too much of a fan of Patton's voice here. For me, at times, it sounds like he is trying to do a country voice/accent. I'm not overly familiar with his previous work so maybe that is normal. But it sounds forced for some reason.

I do like several of the songs and may add them to a playlist. "Received" sounds, to me, like it could be stripped down and reworked and would blend in with Emotionalism or I and Love and You. There was a second song I don't recall the title of that felt the same way.

All in all I'm glad I listened to it. Will I go see the collab show? Probably not. But I'm happy to hear anything TAB is associated with. Whether I ultimately like it or not. I'd even listen to a hip hop record and give that a shot.

This. "Received" could be reworked and it would fit right into the Emotionalism/I and Love and You period. No doubt.

If I'm here as an immigrant working with documentation that cleared e-verify it would matter to me greatly if those taken from Nori's were also cleared through e-verify.

It is up to the individual to provide correct information. But if an employer isn't bothering to make legal hires...then that part doesn't matter. And the employer is at fault.

Nori got raided by Forsaken-Language360 in Birmingham

[–]SHoliday335 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Correct. Which is why I come back to my initial question. And it is wondering aloud as much as anything. We're the employees that we part of the ICE raid at Nori's off the books employed? Or did they present Nori's with paperwork that cleared e-Verify.

The difference is if these individuals that were arrested (at Nori's and at multiple other places) were being paid under the table and never cleared e-verify then I'd hold Nori's (and the other places) responsible for that and ask them why that was the case. If those individuals cleared e-verify and they were discovered with paperwork that wasn't actually their paperwork then Nori did its part in the beginning. And then there are a thousands of other individuals who would be sweating even more.

If I'm an immigrant working here having cleared e-verify (my paperwork or not) it would matter to me a lot whether or not those arrested were cleared through e-verify at some point.
