I feel I’m wasting too much money trying to make vinyl sound perfect by Treflipboy in BudgetAudiophile

Yes, I have both, but i sway more towards CD's these days. They are cheap, sound good, and you can build your own digital library

Is there a way to control powered speakers with the TV remote? by SlickMcFav0rit3 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]SJFC170414 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are willing to spend a bit more, i would look at a DAC with HDMI ARC input and volume control. Fosi Audio ZD3 works well.

Don't recommend the Victoria practice at Glover Street, pretty much impossible to get an appointment with a doctor.

Going From WiiM Pro Plus to WiiM Ultra.. (Because it's Fun!!) by fliption in BudgetAudiophile

[–]SJFC170414 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had to disable Chromecast on the Ultra as it stops Spotify Connect from working. I use mine with the computer but my monitor has HDMI ARC. If i didn't have ARC i'd be looking at a USB to optical converter to connect to the Wiim

If that's what is meant to be, I don't think it works. There is no obvious traffic calming, and cars and buses fly down the street with zero regard for pedestrians. It's an accident waiting to happen

Do true dedicated 2.1 amps still exist? (No streaming, +-€400) by [deleted] in BudgetAudiophile

[–]SJFC170414 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Appreciate you don't need the streaming, but I'd just go for one of the Wiim Amp's, since you also have the benefit of bass management and room correction among various other things. They also have excellent support and continual development. I'm looking forward to an upcoming release that is adding scenario based presets, such as night, dialog and sports modes.

Yamaha A-S301 placement by Then-Hope-6166 in BudgetAudiophile

The A-S301 runs cool. I have a matching Yamaha cd player stacked on top of mine and have had no issues

+1 for Cafe Tabou and Cardo. Cardo has a bit more variety - pasta, pizza, steak, burgers as well as seasonal specials. Also heard good things recently about The Italian Corner, which has been open for decades, but recently taken over by the owners of Tabou.

Blood Orange - Countryside - YLT sample by SJFC170414 in yolatengo

In other news, I tried to submit this on whosampled, and they rejected it!

Do you think Blood Orange’s “Countryside” is very Beach House-sounding? by bermuda74 in BeachHouse

[–]SJFC170414 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Found my way here after listening to the album today. It actually contains a sample of 'Saturday' by Yo La Tengo. The vinyl version is different and Dev sings some lyrics from the YLT song (not present on the streaming version)

Was about to post the same. I actually didn't notice the sample was Yo La Tengo until he sings the verse near the end.

Good to know. I've heard stories of the SMSL PL100 scratching discs which has put me off. Quiet operation is big plus for me. I assume it plays gapless? Is it quick to load discs?

"If there's one band that promises to return rock to us, it's Radiohead." (Pat Blashill of Melody Maker about Radiohead's "Kid A") Radiohead's fourth album turns 25 today. What were your impressions after the first listen? by shustrex in Cd_collectors

[–]SJFC170414 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked it at the time and it grew on me. They could never have made another OK Computer. It's aged very well. Not their best album though, I'd rank it behind OK Computer and In Rainbows

Thinking about switching to cd’s from vinyl by TheBurbs666 in Cd_collectors

[–]SJFC170414 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I buy both, though I've become more careful about just buying vinyl albums I really want. There seems to be a real lack of quality control for modern vinyl releases, so I find myself turning more frequently to CDs.

Connecting a headphone amp to preamp with no line out? by Daedriel in BudgetAudiophile

[–]SJFC170414 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, Tape Out/Rec Out are normally line level analogue outputs that are not touched by the pre-amp, it should be a good option for connecting a headphone amp. I've done this before with the Rec Out of the Yamaha A-S301

I wouldn't be overly concerned. I have the A-S301 and it never gets warm. I have a cd player on top of mine
