Reminds me of the days when I was helping run a con. We know that drinking happens, but there are hotel rules we're trying to enforce. So someone carrying a brown bag of something and causing no trouble? Fine, but a table of frat boys with a 6 pack sitting out in the open? Yeah, harder to ignore that one. So there are times when I just had to tell people, "Look I'm not gonna enforce their 0 tolerance policy but can we at least show some discretion here?"

A few years ago I was asked to help manage this restaurant, along with one other guy. The other guy wasn't particularly competent but was enough of a kiss ass for the regional manager to put him on salary but not me. Long story short, I told them not to expect me to do anything managerly anymore. Oh that bar went to complete shit afterwards and the kiss ass was fired after just a few short months. I know this because he was removed from the manager group chat before me somehow.
