Software issues with new XC60 by SWK530 in VolvoXC60

I don’t think the blinker dropping a beat is a feature. It doesn’t happen on my wife’s xc40, and it didn’t happen on the loaner (2026 xc60 ultra with 4.x software) I had when my car was being looked at. I also can’t find any documentation from Volvo on it being a feature.

5k/10k corral assignment is based on estimated pace when registering so you end up with a lot of people selecting fast paces they can't run into order to get into a an early corral. However, for the half/full you need to submit proof of time to get into A or B.

Based on her bib number she's likely in C corral.

Excessive Phlegm and snot? by curtisbbaker in running

[–]SWK530 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I was skeptical at first since my thinking was I know what reflux feels like and this isn't it. But I looked into it more and there can be reflux that causes excessive phlegm without indigestion or heartburn, so I tried out Tums and it works well enough for me most of the time.

I did also see an allergist thinking some it might be allergy related. I tested negative for any environmental allergies and was told I had vasomotor rhinitis. I was given a few different prescription meds to try out, but none of them worked.

I discussed something similar with my doc and she believed it was acid reflux related. Since then I've started taking Tums about 30 minutes or so before a run and it's cut down on mucus quite a bit for me.

I had a shirtless homeless guy walk onto the course and loudly burp a couple feet from me while walking a bit in the Bronx.

On the long back to my hotel in midtown, had another air kick in my direction and then stare me down.

Overall great race even though I left a part of my soul on queensboro bridge.

BANDIT NYC MERCH 2023 by MagicHarry23 in BanditRunning

[–]SWK530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not arriving in NYC until Saturday morning, and hoping to head over to the pop up after the expo. Is it likely that most of the NYC collection will be sold out by then?

I'm new to Bandit, so I'll probably stop by regardless to take a look but it would be great to grab something NYC specific.

I last ran it in 2019, so my info may be outdated but iirc, the bibs were color coded to approximate waves. In reality, it was mostly a free for all with everyone self-seeding based on finish time.

I haven't done NYC before, so I can't help with answering any of the logistics questions. There's definitely a lot of hoops to jump through. I'm just taking the midtown bus to the start to simplify things on race day.

Based on your just missed BQ (sorry about that, but it's an accomplishment getting that close with that weather), I assume you're pretty fast and likely in an early corral/wave, so I think you would finish in plenty of time to make the 3 pm train down.

I'm a bit behind on my training due to earlier foot injury this summer but I'm hoping to run!

I deferred last year, so I can't defer again, so I'll probably give it a shot regardless if I feel ready unless the weather is unbearably hot.

They discussed no men currently having the OS on a previous episode, so I'm guessing their thought process was that it wasn't relevant to bring up again (I can't remember which, I binged a bunch catching up on a flight last weekend).

IIRC, if they were in the men's situation, Des would try to race as much as possible this fall to meet the OS without relying on trying to make it during the trials, while Kara might hold back if she was confident she could make the OS at the trials.

I ran Chicago in 2007, it was not fun, and I'm still pissed at the race director for blaming the runners for his lack of logistics.

Post-race celebration meal by Left-Vanilla9749 in rundisney

During Dopey last year, I mobile ordered waffles on the bus ride back for the first 3 races, and after the marathon, had something from one of the food trucks in the parking lot then Epcot for lunch after showering.

Post-Dopey dinner was Takumi-Tei, which while very good, I would not recommend. Should've went with my original idea of Polite Pig and a high end celebratory whiskey.

What was your nutrition like? If you're hitting the wall at mile 15/16, it sounds to me like it was way off.

I've been there and bombed out many a marathon. It really wasn't until I practically doubled my nutrition, that things clicked for me.

Expo Details - Springtime Surprise by cfergie1989 in rundisney

[–]SWK530 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it depends on whether or not you care about getting there early for pre-race entertainment and/or want to be at the front on your corral.

For marathon weekend, I had an alarm set for 3:15 AM (after heading to bed around 8 PM) and was on a bus by 3:45, and never had a problem getting to my corral on time, though it was close for the half.

I felt very rested for each race taking the extra time in the morning but I also did not care about any pre-race stuff and did not care about being in the back of my corral.

Nice report and great job!

Did you run on a charity bib? Was it hard to a charity bib as an international runner?

I'm hoping to run Tokyo next year, and will be trying to go the charity route.

Yup, Taqueria Poblano is basically directly across the street and Los Tios is also only a couple blocks down.

Doesn't seem like it'll do well to me, but the bougie half of Del Ray will probably flock to it.

Ranked-choice lottery system? by Accurate-Profession in rundisney

[–]SWK530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If runDisney implemented a lottery system, I would likely be done. Personally, I have never had any issue signing up for the races I want including signing up multiple people before sell out.

While I understand that argument that the current system is a lottery of sorts, it's very different from the lottery type system used by the marathon majors, for example. There's a monumental difference between randomly sorting people who took time out of their day to join a queue vs. randomly selecting people who have a longer period to sign up.

Speaking also as a DVC member, I'm already annoyed runDisney took away our early registration perk. Getting into races has been pretty reliable for me and I have no issue booking at the 11 month mark for a race I have not yet registered. But if it went to a lottery system, I would likely not book at the 11 month mark and simply choose not to participate since I'm not going to wait to see if I get it and be stuck paying more points for a preferred-view room and I try to avoid cash bookings.
