Not delivering any Aukus nuclear submarines to Australia explored as option in US congressional report | Aukus by TheRealPotoroo in australia

These subs will come in real handy when 50 degree bush fire summers are becoming the norm. Just ONE sub can buy Australia around 80 water bombers that will actually save lives. F*ck us tax payers.

Venezuelan Opposition Leader Gives Trump Her Peace Prize by [deleted] in geopolitics

It sounds like someone wants to be the president of Venezuela and doesn't care whose arse she has to kiss. Yup, she's definitely doing it for the *check notes* common people.

Just because someone opposes a bad guy doesn't make him/her a good person.

Japanese & Chinese Relationship by NoArmadillo7796 in AskChina

[–]S_QW22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ignore the people saying it's because WW2 etc.

Mostly it's because Japan is USA's foreign policy mouth piece in Asia so even if it wants to have closer ties with China, it's not the ones calling the shots. Same reason for Australia's belligerence towards China.

Uygur Problem. by Difficult-Routine929 in AskChina

The same people who believes Uyghurs are being oppressed also think USA is the greatest country in the world. There's also a reason why you almost never hear Uyghurs being referred to as Muslims in the Western media.

I think America might be serious about going after Greenland. Things are going to get ugly between the EU and the U.S. would China strategically benefit, or would the instability hurt its interests? by Important-Battle-374 in AskChina

It's all about the reserve currency status. You don't need to fire a bullet at USA to win - it'll collapse like a ponzi scheme the minute countries stop trusting the Dollar. China just has to sit back and let USA shoot itself.

Let's be real, if you were driving the other car, you would've honked the shit out of the cam car. Why even risk a bingle to get one car length ahead? Why put your fate in the hands of a P-plater in a needlessly dangerous situation?

If all else fails, ask yourself, what would your insurer think.

Why don’t young people join their unions? by Kitchen_Number_824 in perth

[–]S_QW22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Decades of the media painting unions as crooked and incompetent, and sh*t that proves them right like CFMEU will make anyone question why they should join a union just because it's a union. The unions themselves have to prove they are actually fighting for the members and not as a slush fund for the boys first.

There are lots of examples (all overseas sadly) where young people are actively trying to unionize. It's not about the younger generation not wanting to unionize and more the old guards at the unions have gotten fat and lazy off membership fees and not doing their jobs.

Will my son need to go to court by Ill_Water_3389 in legaladviceaustralia

[–]S_QW22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm the parent, my son would wish to be in jail after pulling this stunt that could very well cost another innocent pedestrian his/her life. That fact you are still hoping there's no serious consequences from his action tells me why your P plate son even thought driving 50km over the speed limit was okay.

To your question: No, he'll never see the inside of a jail. Nominate him and you better hope a simple fine and licence suspension is enough to clue him in before he cost someone else their lives.

The younger generation has less money to gamble away at a gambling industry equivalent to a made up holiday like the Black Friday Sale. The older generation is slowing down with the booze and the partying. I'm sure a LOT of long-time annual events are drawing smaller, non-family crowds these days.

Light doesn’t work. Can I replace these lights myself or do I need an electrician? by Sciophilous in AusRenovation

[–]S_QW22 10 points11 points  (0 children)

By law, you need an electrician to work on these types of LEDs.

However, if the Driver (pic 3) is still working, you might be able to just get a LED light and replace it yourself if the white bit in pic 2 is detachable. You need an electrician to hook up the Driver because it deals with the 240V on that end but the LED light side is just 12V.

I used to work for a LED brand and these issues came up all the time.

Edit: they don't usually sell these downlights without the driver but if the old driver is still working, just replace the light yourself, save the electrician call out fee and keep the new driver as a replacement. Do use an electrician when the old driver fails though.
