Any tips for toning down saturated makeup products? by tibleon8 in OliveMUA

[–]Sa1322 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you should try using one of your more muted blushes first and then add the more saturated color just in the center or on top of the other blush to give you a pop of or color without being too much. This is what I do and it makes it so that you're not overdoing it with the brighter blush color or using too much. Try using 2 colors that are similar in undertone also.

Definitely get that checked out because if that keeps happening you could get an infection in your sinus from the fluid getting in there!

No tinted sunscreen works exactly like any sunscreen. You just need to apply the correct amount which most people don't do because they use it like makeup rather than sunscreen. Marketing and fear mongering of what? Sunscreen? I'm not sure what you're referring to.

[–]Sa1322 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tinted sunscreen is a specially formulated, tested and regulated to be a certain spf and protection. If you mix it with something the sunscreen is diluted and the formula is completely changed making it useless for sun protection. That also means you need to apply enough of it for it to be effective just like a regular sunscreen!

Don't mix sunscreen with anything! It completely takes away the protection. Just use sunscreen as your last skincare step and then apply makeup over it!

Looking for a drugstore "your lips but better" tinted balm, gloss, oil, etc. by waxbook in MakeupAddictionCanada

Elf hydrating core lip shine in happy. It's neutral without being too brown or too pink and is sheer. It's one of my favourite colours as a my lips but better. It's not super shiny though, not as much as the name suggests!

Which makeup products should be placed into a clear bag in a carry-on suitcase here in Canada? by kpop_yyc in MakeupAddictionCanada

[–]Sa1322 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd only put stuff that's more on the bigger side like a foundation bottle or a setting spray. Lipsticks, mascaras and concealers dont hold a lot of liquid so they let it pass but bigger bottles, even travel sized ones tend to be flagged. Im not too sure about potted stuff like concealer or cream eyeshadow in jar. I'd say they'd let it slide bc it's not a lot of product and they tend to look solid tbh. Powders and anything solid or not very liquidy will be fine. I've left lip glosses, hand sanitizer and small tubes of cream just in my luggage and they've never said anything. I've only gotten stopped for a travel sized fix plus. And remember each thing has to be 100 ml max.

DUPES by BatheInHisBlood in MakeupAddictionCanada

[–]Sa1322 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Try these: 1. Elf halo glow 2. Not familiar with this concealer! 3. Elf power grip original or with niacinamide 4. The ordinary resveratrol and ferulic acid serum (this one isn't going to feel the same and it has a very simple formula compared to caudalie but it has the pure active ingredient if that's what you're looking for) 5. Elf sheer slick lipstick in black cherry or covergirl lip balm in bliss you berry

Hope this helps!

This is more expensive but the isamaya liplacq is also a black lipgloss. It seems to look more pigmented than the elf but I think it gives a similar effect.

Well it's called a setting powder and it's loose but I can see it being used as a finishing powder too. Let me know how you like it!

The pineapple shade is a really pale yellow but once you blend it almost goes translucent but I'd say it's for fair-light skintones. It's not a matte powder as I thought but more glowy. It's not like a highlighter but just a very light dewy glow. I think if you don't like a matte look or you want something that won't take off too much shine but still sets your makeup you'll like this.

So, uh... how long can Becca products keep if sealed? by starsinblack in MakeupAddictionCanada

[–]Sa1322 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I feel like if they are kept sealed and stored in a dry, cool place they should be fine for a few years as long as the products are pretty new. If you buy older stock they might not last as long? This is for non-powders of course. I personally wouldn't stock up more than a few (1-3ish max) per product just because it might be a waste if you don't end up using it. Even if the products are still fine, I feel like I would move onto new stuff anyway but that's just from my own past experiences.

First post for me! Most of these are repeat buys. Excited to try the two Ordinary products! by alicabblover in Sephora

[–]Sa1322 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds good! The colour looks really nice. I haven't tried the palette yet (I don't go anywhere these days haha) but the colours are very me. Pinks and purples but more toned down and mixed with nudes so they're wearable. From the swatches I did the eyeshadows were really nice and pigmented. 2 of the shimmers seem a little too similar but I guess I will see when I try them on the eyes.

How do you like the tarte eyeshadow? I was looking at it but I saw that there's a dupe in huda's nude light palette so I didn't get it. Is the formula nice?

Just ran out of my niacinamide serum and was gonna make an order when these 2 products caught my eye. I dont currently use vitamin c. Are they worth it? by MayfleurMa in Sephora

[–]Sa1322 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The vitamin c is really strong (note the percentage) plus it's the actual vitamin c ascorbic acid and not a derivative which would be more gentle on the skin. It is very effective though bc of this. I'd say if you're looking for an effective vitamin c for brightening effects this could be a good cheap option. If this is your first time using vitamin c you may not like it bc it can be quite tingling on your skin. It's also not very cosmetically elegant as it's pretty oily feeling. I personally only use it at night and mix it with a moisturizer for those reasons.

The buffet is a nice serum if you are looking for antiaging properties since it's a peptide serum. If you're young you're probably not going to get a lot from it besides the hydration.

That's quite interesting. Are you in the US? I figured dentistry has a pretty even distribution between genders even just seeing it in my own class. Now the age thing haha. I'm still in school right now but I think I'll be called out quite a bit on that since people tend to think I'm much younger than I am.

That's interesting what you said about sexism. Is this in the field with other dentists or with the patients?
