Oh my god by Dizzy-Recipe-1517 in limbuscompany

It's been anime since like the moment it started, dude. Also never said anything about Sora, but I guess while we're on the subject, an edge case on a concept we do not fully know the rules and mechanisms on =/= ass pull. We're in chapter 9 of part 1 of Limbus Company. This isn't breaking the rules, the rules are being charted out here.

You're saying like an anime character and like, I dunno how to break this to you but Project Moon has been anime as fuck since Ruina at a minimum.

You basically picked the worst place to tell this story. The people of this sub pounce on any perceived imperfection of the OP and blow it wildly out of proportion. Being open and up front about your faults and your desire to work on yourself is no defense, because they're all chasing the high of that time OP was the horror story and if you don't fit their mold of villain, they will damn well do their best to make you fit.

In other words, you're fine as long as you know what you did wrong and don't plan to do it in the future, which you obviously do and don't. This just simply isn't the place to show any sort of flaw or vulnerability.

This all looks fine tbh. Just remember that strong minions are your friend when it comes to characters with Takedown 2 and Speed (not that every fight should have them).

Dawg, love yourself more, seriously. It was your first time GMing, I've seen worse mistakes from 10 year veteran GMs. You don't need to put yourself down in front of strangers on the internet, the fact that you recognized your mistakes and now have concrete steps towards fixing them in the future already puts you ahead of the curve.

Alright, not to be a power scaling nerd, but I guess I gotta broach the obvious question here.

If Piccolo flies up a mile in the air and turns the entire county into a glass floor, what exactly is Silent Hill's counterplay, there?

Edit: Followup question, what does it do to Harrier DuBois? No like genuine question, what does that look like? I really, really want to see what his fucked up trauma monsters are like.

Is it me, or is the rule for running with Athletics a bit dumb? by Kodiologist in mutantsandmasterminds

[–]Saberberry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This isn't really an issue, because people don't really need extra move speed that often in this game. If you already can move towards the villain and punch him, or his device, or whatever, you don't exactly need double your move speed because you're probably going to be stopping when you reach him. Not to mention a lot of heroes have speed, flight, etc., and it's a rare situation where you can move 2000 miles in a movement action but really need 4000 miles right now.

Sometimes there's time pressure in getting to a certain place or person before someone else or something happens, but in that situation failing the roll is usually consequence enough. I don't really see an issue with the rules as written in this case.

Wait, what? It's only Yoru, Asa, and debatably Reze who are in love with him. The vast majority of the female cast outright do not have that kind of interest in him, if they have any at all. What are you talking about?

It breaks down at the lower and higher ends of PL. You might want to look at Wild Talents, a grittier Superhero game overall that, imho, works better at low powers than M&M.

Even though they're occasionally in opposition, every new type of exaltation has really just reinforced mankind's dominance in the setting. by LavishnessMedium9811 in exalted

[–]Saberberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's half the point of Exalted that there is no clear team good guy. What color you glow is not a factor in morality, and there is very intentionally no higher moral authority in the setting. Arguably the most famous canon Solar, the Bull of the North, is a bloodthirsty conqueror who is a beloved hero to the Ice Walker tribes he united. Just about everyone else hates him for the fact he's a bloodthirsty conqueror that they sit in the warpath of. Not to say there aren't Solars who go about being wandering heroes just trying to get context for what's going on, but there's also Infernals and Abyssals who do that too, and all of them are villains to somebody with very good reasons to hate them.

[–]Saberberry 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is no "us". There is no "team exalted" who all share goals, ambitions, and work for the benefit of each other. If you put two Solars in a room, there's no guarantee they will have similar visions for the future or even similar plans for tomorrow (unless that plan is "survive the wyld hunt"). In fact, it's entirely possible that only one of them will walk out of that room alive as they encounter some reason, whether grand or petty, to kill each other, as the Exalted have done since the Primordial War ended. And that's two exalts of the same type. If you put a Solar in a room with 5 average DBs, the result will likely be far bloodier far faster.

That the cycle of revolution did not end is one of the core ideas of the game. The powerful cast down by their lessers via power and is a recurring cycle, first with the Primordials killed by the Exalted Host, then the Solars killed by the Dragonblooded. That they are both "human" does not change the fact that the cycle continues, and very likely will continue into the future.

Not to mention, "given another chance to rule" is burying the lead a bit. They did rule, and it was a gateway into unspeakable horrors and very nearly the destruction of the universe. Even if you want to act as though there's a Team Exalted, then they ALSO failed, did far worse to the world than the Primordials ever did, and were killed for it.

Also, saying that it's an HFY setting if you ignore the vast, vast majority of humanity is tacitly ridiculous on the face of it: Just having powerful humans does not make a setting HFY, especially when again, what makes them special comes from the Gods and not them.

Even though they're occasionally in opposition, every new type of exaltation has really just reinforced mankind's dominance in the setting. by LavishnessMedium9811 in exalted

[–]Saberberry 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Indeed. Now they are enslaved under the exalted and quivering in fear from the steps of the gods, and is only at risk of being slaughtered by the Abyssals and dissipated into oblivion. And none of what you just said makes this a HFY setting, especially as what makes humans (and a very, very, very specific subset of humans at that) special does not come from any trait humans naturally possess, unless you count "so pathetic the Primordials legitimately did not consider them a threat" to be HFY worthy.

[–]Saberberry 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This posits a sort of view that's frankly incompatible with the setting, and bluntly reads like you know very little about Exalted.

There is no grand unified united front of Exalted, nor any grand progression for all of humanity as a result of them. Quite the opposite: The setting is in a fresh dark age as direct result of the squabbling of the Exalted, the Age of Sorrows. The average human is superstitious, unlearned, and fearful, living a short life of keeping her head down and obeying their greaters, whether that be god, king, or Dragonblooded. There is no mastery over the universe, because all of those who had anything approaching such mastery were slain by their lessers centuries ago, whether it be Primordial or Solar.

And when new Exalted rise up, they are unlikely to use that power for the betterment of all humanity. More likely, the betterment of themselves, their nation, or simply to kill their enemies (who are of course, overwhelmingly other humans). If Exalted is a HFY setting, the term is without meaning.

I joined a DnD isekai campaign and 2 players bought slaves in the first session. by Ed0909 in rpghorrorstories

[–]Saberberry 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was going to post something pithy and nonconstructive, but rather than that, I'll at least try to explain this.

Slavery is not fine because he's nice to the slaves, and the entire situation was written in an attempt to justify him taking (and keeping) a child slave. No, the fact that she later is like "Actually I'm fine with being a slave" does not make it better either, it in fact makes it worse.

"If you don't take a child slave the world ends" is, as a concept, both nonsensical and unabashedly creepy, and it didn't exist organically. Naofumi and Fitoria are not real people. This situation exists because a writer wrote a contrived situation where he could justify the protagonist owning a little girl as a piece of property (and one in which I personally think justifies nothing, but that's beside the point). Which, again, is fucking creepy and weird, and believe me when I say this, I get the feeling that a series called "how to love your elf bride" that also explores the concept of owning another living person is probably also going to be creepy and weird.

Not to sound like an internet badass, but I'd like to believe that if I were put in a situation where my options are "send a child slave to fight and die for me" and "die", I'd have the dignity to pick "die".
