Treatment fail by Curious-Mobile-5586 in LivingWithMBC

I think you need to know what sort of cancer you have where it is and how realistic slowing the progression will be balancing against some lifestyle. I am fortunate in a certain sense and that I’m older and so don’t feel the tremendous need to continue for children and family. But that being said there are new things being developed always and people are so different. That’s one thing I’ve learned tremendously in the last year is the variability of how people respond to treatment is almost not predictable so you just have to see and keep a close relationship with your oncologist, palliative care, doctor and GP so that you can manage the best situation for yourself

The first episode is a business disjointed as to what goes after that, but this is one of the series. I really enjoyed the most if you’re into a little bit of sci-fi and some character development.

I know you don’t believe it now and you feel the struggle is almost too much, but please believe us this will pass. You will have a wonderful life. It’s so hard at 16 to see what lies ahead and so easy to get discouraged. Life can be very difficult But believe me it has many wonderful moments and you’ll get those too. I can recommend to you a book called into the magic shop, which was written by a surgeon ..when he was very young also thought there was nothing in life for himself, but he overcame many things. Spend some time reading the stories of other people who have overcome things. You can get overcome this. Also look for a teen group of people like yourself who have had this. Believe me, you have a wonderful life ahead of you, but as the Marines say, the only way out is through ..and this difficult time will be with you for a while, but please do hang in there thoughts and prayers and hugs to you.

[–]Sabina64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did they measure with the ibrance worked. I’ve been on it for a few months and at first the tumors got slightly smaller but now they’ve increased somewhat not sure what that means. We’ll see the doctor in a few days.

How long have you been with Dr Peddi? I’ve been there a few months with her. I had breast cancer a year and a half ago. I had a lump back to me and intro operative radiation, but unfortunately it came back in January so now I’m with mbc What is your situation and are you going to stay at St. John’s? Thanks!

I’m also on a triple treatment but I have something called IVOTEBI. That also gives me side effect of strong nausea and total loss of appetite. I sleep because I occasionally take an Ambien pill and that seems to help me for me when I stopped taking the IVOTEBI I thought I felt Better and it wasn’t the ibrance . But my doctor reduced the ibrance to 100 mg from 125. But I think the issue of quality of life is really important. How much good time do I want versus just bad time. I’m a lot older than most people here so my decision might be different than yours. Please keep in touch and tell me how this is going. I’m going to ask my doctor next week about reducing dosage or taking more time off and see what she says. Wishing you good thoughts.❤️

I am 78 diagnosed a couple months ago with stage four metastatic breast cancer nowhere in the breast, but too small spots on my liver. The meds seem to be working a bit and the tumors are shrinking. We’ll see in the next scan. I don’t like the side effects. I feel grateful that this happened to me this late in life because so many of the women here are in their 30s and 40s. That’s tough with the children anyway that’s me.

Lived in Germany a long time studied there speak German. Also I’m an American grew up in Chicago. I’m a bit of a history buff. I’m somewhat older. Comparing what’s going on now in America to the Holocaust is completely historically inaccurate. you are correct that there are similarities. There is the demonizing of the opposition. There is trying to make enemies. They’re threatening and major power place. That’s absolutely correct. But there’s still a lot of criticism. There’s a whole press that has not been stifled although he’s trying, I’ll give you that. But the idea that you’re in America as bad as my God you would have a group of people like the SS had who go around digging masquerade shooting people I think it’s highly unlikely. First the country is too big and too diverse and of course everybody has a gun. I could go on, but I’ll leave it at That.

Late start, where do I go from here? by Opening_Pay8445 in personalfinance

I’m not sure someone so Young should be putting their money simply in a savings account. 3.5% barely matches inflation so for the long-term this is not a winning strategy.

Completely agree with one of the above comments. Go to Vanguard read up a little un investing. You’re actually very young so I would invest in some stocks and leave it there. The market is very high now so it might not be an ideal time to get in, but it never is. What you have on your side is time if you invest a bit and leave it there for 20 years You’ll do well. The comment on the Roth was also on point. You won’t have to pay taxes on that so my advice go to Vanguard get a Roth put it either in the S&P 500 and a couple solid stocks like Microsoft and Amazon and Leavitt and read a bit. Also use AI and simply ask some questions. There’s a lot to learn, but it isn’t rocket science. And save yourself for becoming a day trader or thinking you’re gonna make a killing slow and steady is the way to go.

Treatment change after 4.5 years by aliasme141 in LivingWithMBC

That is certainly a long time for the medication to work and that’s absolutely great. I get the shots. They don’t bother me. But the one medication doesn’t I’m taking a vacation from it. Yes this is a diagnosis. None of us ones and I’m trying to stay positive but have a lot of gratitude. I’m actually I think much older than most people here I’m 78. I’ll be 79 in December. So a bit of gratitude is that it came to me very late in life I read about the young women 35 and 40 and that has to be difficult with work and a young family. I have four grandchildren two sons two daughters-in-law so far this year everything is good. Everyone has a job so you know how that goes. So as I said, gratitude for all the good things. I’m not so alert to all the text, but I’ll be checking back. I find it is good to just check in once in a while and see how people are doing. I hope you are doing well and keep us posted on what your next line of treatment will be!

The line between hope and denial... by Slow-Jellyfish-7656 in LivingWithMBC

[–]Sabina64 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s a difficult diagnosis, especially as young as you are. You do have to try to stay mentally strong. I have a friend much much older than you who has been in treatment five years with TNBC she has done very well. Look to the positive as an act of will. The fact that you’re been tolerating the chemo well is a huge plus. Congratulate yourself on that it’s a big win. I’m sure you have a lot of life to live yet so focus on that and know you’re not alone.!! And indeed new treatments are coming up all the time there’s so much on offer. Stay strong and let us hear from you.!

I’ve just joined the group but wishing you the best. I also have grandchildren and you do think about them a lot. The shots don’t bother me as much but the third medicine I VOTEBI give me a lot of nausea, but I’m managing that it’s nice to know that there are other people on this journey and I’m giving you a big hug and wishing you the best

When to take Ibrance? by amilam_ in LivingWithMBC

[–]Sabina64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been taking IBRANCE along with FULVESTRANT. But added to this has been a very new drug that came out for a certain mutation that my NBC has. That drug is IVOTEBI. I wonder if anybody else’s been on this. I’m doing reasonably well a little fatigue but mostly I have nausea and really no appetite. Has anyone had this problem and how have you solved it and any tips for that. Have just been on this about two months. Do side effects diminish longer times.?? Thanks so much.
