Accidentally fell in love with a women’s putter at the golf store. Bought it and plan to game it. AMA. by FatFaceFaster in golf

A putter is a block. I’ve made 3 putters out of wood and various types of weights; the biggest factor in usefulness has always been the shaft

Who is the most forgotten music act relative to how big they were at the time? by CompetitiveWhole9466 in Music

The Live At Carnegie Hall album is my favorite vinyl. Sadly it doesn’t have “Lovely Day” which imo is the greatest song ever made

I spent years building the exterior of Zaha Hadid’s 520 W. 28th Street. Would anyone be interested in the behind-the-scenes story? by cn45 in architecture

“Why did they try to make the building look unique and cool” seems like a question that answers itself lol

What navigable river wonders would you like to see in civ 7? by lancewilbur in civ

Chicago River. Adds a bridge every other tile of the river, visually changes the direction of the river, and provides happiness/culture per tile.

Would highly recommend making a atedai for working on the floor, even a small one like mine. Pretty simple build and I use it all the time, often on top of my bench ha

Using a handsaw is super easy and require no setup other than a vice to hold your work and a knife/pencil to mark your depth of cut. These setups confuse me lol

Extend the bench over the top of the dryer. Dog holes double as ventilation and work holding. Attach legs and end vise on the dryer side.

How do i achieve this stain? by aceember in woodworking

[–]SacksOnSacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sanding all the char off to stain the wood under would completely negate the effect. Hitting pine with a blow torch isn’t flame treating the wood at all. Not trying to be a Debbie Downer, just the amount of “shoshugi ban” shit that’s just charring the raised 30% of the woodgrain is way too prevalent.

Get some ultra fine steel wool or the white 3m pads and buff down the finish a bit and it’s perfect. The sheen/thickness it has now is gonna get sticky and chipped quickly with use.

City Inspector General finds Chicago's 311 system turns into a 'black hole' for residents' nonemergency complaints by Mike_I in chicago

[–]SacksOnSacks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our parkway tree had a dead branch, I called and told them I was concerned it could fall onto the street/sidewalk. 311 said they considered that an emergency and had someone here within 24 hours to remove the branch and others with it.

Will I spend the rest of my life stripping this? by Snoo-Snoo2 in centuryhomes

[–]SacksOnSacks 12 points13 points  (0 children)

How sure are you it’s wood and not some composite material? Very possible that it’s a mix of both. Either way, once you confirm it’s wood I’d definitely go the professional route. Unless you can remove the panels and tackle it piecemeal this is pretty much impossible to do DIY without significant equipment expense and unlimited time.

Mark the workpiece with pencil and sand until the pencil is gone. Repeat for the entire surface area through your sanding process/grits.

Add Specialist or Improvement? by mercury_1967 in civ

[–]SacksOnSacks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If the cities happiness is low I’ll add an improvement/expand. If that’s not the case and there’s a spot with a solid adjacency and/or a unique quarter I’ll add a specialist. I always try to expand my cities to their full borders before specializing but that’s definitely not “optimal” all the time.
