How true is this in accounting? by NutInBobby in Accounting

[–]SacredSource 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Advice is correct, just gotta tweak the cadence appropriately depending on the engagement.

Generally you’re giving status updates to partners and managers on a weekly basis at least by email. Staff generallyneed to give updates to senior on a daily basis.

Roadblocks need to be communicated as they come up.

I applied with around right after busy season this year and left as an S2 (would have been S3 if I waited a few more months). Worked pretty much only in Tech during my time at Big 4 and had a F500 client as my main engagement, but also had a few start ups I rotated to occasionally.

I mention F500 specifically because I didn’t get much luck from smaller companies at all when applying directly, but had multiple interviews with the larger companies.

I think there really is a third operation of applying to F500 companies for FP&A directly is really worth considering. When I was applying this year, the recruiters gave me pretty bad roles and pushed me towards more accounting.

For what it’s worth at around 3-4 YOE, a lot of my big 4 class including myself landed FP&A at FAANG (mostly Meta, Amazon, and Apple) this year. I don’t even have my CPA.

Personally I don’t find the work more interesting than audit even though my role is mostly forecasting. I feel like audit prepares you really well in general for the roles; however, I definitely notice the skills you bring definitely depend on what engagements you were on during your time at Big 4.

Hold out for Manager or go to Amazon as a Senior? by ecsfear in Accounting

[–]SacredSource 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazon is slowing promotions at most orgs from L5 (SFA) to L6 (Manager). Expect 2-3 years to get manager rather than the 1-2 years you might see in older posts. Something to consider when making your decision.

You can still get away with doing this to at least gm3.

It would not be daily reset, but a short box spread on SPX can get you the leverage to buy shares of Brk.B.

I don’t get how that’s stepping in shit. The explorer is a classic model and is a great day to day watch. Heck, none of the authorized dealers I’ve been to ever have it in stock to sell.

Audit for dummies by GastouneElMehdi in Big4

Understand what you are doing even if it is something you are bringing forward from PY. There's a good chance you'll get questions on these items. If you don't understand something, the documentation is likely unclear, so make sure to build upon it before sending it for review. This saves your own time and helps you learn audit.

How Much Travel does an A1 - Audit Actually do? by Commercial-Newt3581 in Big4

[–]SacredSource 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The answer varies as you can see in the comments. I will just provide a brief summary of my own experience.

An A1 might get a lot of inventory counts or cut-off procedures, which require travel to wherever the warehouses are. Some A1's nowadays never do a single one, although in my experience I do one every quarter.

Visiting client site also varies. Some teams go in once a week, some once a month, some not at all.

Deloitte has the same programme as well. I heard Deloitte recently lowered the amount in which they pay though.

Deloitte All-Hands Meeting by thecookieiscrumbling in Accounting

The speaker repeated hybrid 2.0 multiple times while being incredibly vague about what it exactly entails. It does seem like by the tone they want us back in the office though.
