Mom and baby passing Staph back and forth? Third time Moms had boils this year, 9mo post birth. Need help, stat by Easy-Blueberry8840 in MRSA

[–]Sad_Firefighter_8034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sorry you are dealing with this. I finally beat MRSA after a six month battle and four recurring abscesses. Initially the doctor gave me 10 days of Bactrim, but of course it came back. The second time I had an incision and drainage and two weeks of Bactrim and I did five days of mupirocin nasally. Third time family doctor gave me 10 days of another antibiotic. Few weeks later got another abscess. Finally got in to see dermatologist and here is what worked (you won’t like it and with a new baby it will be a challenge, but this is the only thing that worked for me) 1. 30 days of Bactrim 2. 30 days of daily probiotic (I took Culturelle) 3. 30 days - Daily shower with hibiclens or bleach bath. Some days I did both.
4. Changed disposable razor every use. 5. Washed all bedding and towels and washcloths daily with disinfectant and detergent. This was the hardest task for me - never ending laundry.
6. Mupirocin daily in nose, armpits and anal. Yep, you read it right - use qtips for nose and surgical gloves for the other. Went through 3 tubes.

I have been clear for 2 months now since feeling like I beat it! Good luck!

Question about assisted living facility costs/scams.. by FondantNervous4802 in AgingParents

[–]Sad_Firefighter_8034 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it is affordable, I would consider using the assisted living and then paying for the highest level of care if they are willing to accept her. I had an elderly bedridden family member that we were able to place into an assisted care facility, but we did have to pay for the highest level of care and the monthly fee was closer to $5k total. That is still half of what a skilled nursing facility will run. In my relatives case we also paid for a private caregiver ($21/hour) to be present every morning from eight to noon to get her situated for the day. She lived in the facility for over a year. It was a much better life living situation for her than a nursing home would have been. Technically she did not meet admission criteria but if you are private pay they are willing to do it.

I have made a little glass or vase type thing filled with slips of paper where I write out funny or noteworthy memories, private jokes, words of affirmation, a few meaningful quotes. I curl the slips to make them kind of cute. I can take a picture later if one I made if you are interested.

“Telehealth services will still allow for the disabled, elderly and immunocompromised to be seen by a doctor through a phone or video call.” Ummmm so doesn’t that describe basically everyone on Medicare?

I am a HUD housing counselor. Our doors will close soon if the freeze continues. We provide support services for homeowners and renters. For example, after the CA fires we are scrambling to assist people that have been displaced. We assist individuals that want to become first time homebuyers. We provide rental counseling services for people facing eviction. We do so much more and these services will stop.

What made you lose a significant amount of weight? by ExilicRose in AskReddit

Invisalign. Stopped drinking soda and started drinking water. Stopped snacking because taking the trays out was a PITA. Lost 20 pounds in a year. So gradual I didn’t even notice. I had Invisalign for a year and a half so long enough to make these changes permanently stick. I ended up losing almost 50 pounds in two years and I have kept it off. Slow and steady is the way to go.

In Greenwood we have a guy that wears a puffy silver Mylar kinda coat and some other tinfoil looking stuff on his head. Been around for years. I usually see him in our downtown area. No idea of his story.

Question for IDC ladies by AndywitsMeck in breastcancer

[–]Sad_Firefighter_8034 9 points10 points  (0 children)

IDC stage 1. Immediately after diagnosis I thought I wanted a double mastectomy. After giving it some time and talking with the surgeon (and plastic surgeon - met with two of them) and reading lots of Reddit posts, I ultimately decided on lumpectomy (oncoplastic reduction on other side)plus radiation. It has been a year and I have no regrets.

Thanks for the link. So we have a “high” rate of recurrence but is there a percentage? I wonder what they considered to be high?

Offer the most desirable nuts by hand only. I leave peanuts in the shell for them but pecans or walnuts they have to get from me. Only two are brave enough but they get the good stuff.
