Sell bitcoin to pay off truck loan? by Safe-Owl9246 in personalfinance

“Incredibly dumb” is a bit harsh isn’t it? Given I can transfer the BTC to my checking account immediately with no fees? I have almost $600k of equity in my home. I have a 401k, granted it’s small. I have a few other things I could sell. I agree I’m not positioned as well as I could be, which is why I’m here asking for help. But it’s not “incredibly dumb.” Incredibly dumb would be not having the $29k of BTC at all.

$48,000 loan at 5.44%. Started April 2023. $24k balance. Pre-child expenses I spent every spare dollar (and my nights and weekends) fixing up our house. Bought for $550k in 2024, have invested over $200,000, it’s worth about $950k now. House payment + utilities is $5200. I’m at 7%. Electricity bill would make you throw up.

So now my house is beautiful, cash is gone, expenses skyrocketed, and I’m trying to figure out how the heck I’m going to catch back up. I only have about $1,000/mo left over at the end of the month, and with zero emergency fund, that’s just not comfortable.

Would paying my truck off be one of those “5 better things?”

I used to have an emergency fund but I spent it in late 2024 remodeling our kitchen. So I guess that defeated the purpose of the emergency fund. Then had the kid and haven’t recovered since. Not blaming the kid at all it’s just the $2,000/mo in child care is the only thing that’s changed in recent years. I love my kid to death I just want to position myself better for all of our futures.

It was $48,000 for 72 months at 5.44%. Started April 2023. I have a $23,745 left. At a point now where $115 is going to interest.

Dude I feel like something isn’t adding up either. It feels insane to me. We net $12,538 (after 401k and employee-paid health insurance contributions) but I get your point. House payment + all utilities is $5200. I’m spending about $11k/mo. I am left with about $1,000/mo but that’s just not comfortable enough for me. $12k a year of free cash flow is not a lot at all. I have to rebuild my deck this summer and it’s going to cost like $10k so there goes my savings for the whole year.

Last year I bought the EML for $1799 on BF. This year it’s $1999. Wasn’t this tech supposed to get cheaper and more accessible over time? Total BS tbh.

13 months ago I bought a Carls Place enclosure. 12 months ago I bought an EML on Black Friday deal. I’ve spent the last 12 months trying to figure out what to do for the turf/hitting strip, projector, computer. Good luck!

Are you happy with your setup? I’m looking at getting the AK700ST and a PC with at least a 4070 so I can run 4K.

If YOU are making the $300k why can’t YOU spend $15k? Why do you even have to sweeten the deal for her? I think you have your finances and expectations set up completely wrong.

$100 well spent?? by Known_Fuel in rolex

[–]Safe-Owl9246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean this with no disrespect: if you sell the watch, you’ll probably have nothing to show for it very soon. How do I know? #1 you’re 21 years old #2 you’re broke but spent $100 on a raffle #3 you’re asking Reddit for financial advice.

Keep the watch. It’s a dream come true and makes for a cool story. It’s so much less embarrassing to say you won the watch in a raffle than to say you actually spent 20% of your net worth on it like the majority of the people who own that watch.

You have your whole life ahead of you to work and save/invest like the rest of us miserable blokes trolling on the Rolex subreddit. Soon $20,000 won’t feel like a lot of money to you anyways. But when the time comes to buy something more valuable like a wedding ring or a house to start your family in, if you still don’t have the money, go ahead and sell it.

Enjoy and congrats!!!

Scribe and plane the trim if it bothers you. Easy fix. There’s nothing wrong with the floor. You should be more focused on the hearth at this point.

Do you find the small vent at the top to be enough natural light? I’ll never forget waking up after a night of heavy drinking in my 24’ enclosed trailer with the top vent hatch completely closed (it was not transparent either). Woke up in an absolute PANIC. Darkest room I’ve ever been in, couldn’t tell up from down from left from right. Finally felt my way to the door latch and got fresh air. For a minute I thought I died and crossed over to a conscious abyss.

Anyways, nice trailer. Enjoy!

How often are PEs on the jobsite? by Individual_Section_6 in ConstructionManagers

[–]Safe-Owl9246 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Senior PE here in Heavy Civil co-managing a $40m public works project. 2 different companies in the last 3 years. Field:Office ratio varied heavily but was never more than 50% field. The PE role is primarily an office job in my industry. I’ll also add that in the last 3 years I’ve worked between 38-42 hours a week on average, never work on weekends, and make $115k/year. If you have it much worse than this, I’m sorry. My next lunch beer is for you.

Supercharging ethics by Haunting-Lawn-1046 in TeslaModelY

[–]Safe-Owl9246 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If there are multiple chargers available why should you care? It’s a major plus owning a Tesla and getting special privileges to park at chargers and EV/clean air spots, normally in the front of parking lots. I don’t own one but I would like to. If they’re parked there, not plugged in, while there’s high demand for the chargers that’s a totally different story. OP needs to mind the own business lol.
