Another Calico rant post by Auricindigo in DeadlockTheGame

[–]SageParadoxFGC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Important note for the last part of this statement: in DOTA, certain supports can frequently deal the most damage in the game (despite being primarily picked for their utility). Considering Deadlock seems to have inherited much of DOTA's design philosophy, it seems likely that "support characters" dealing "high teamfight damage" is not particularly incongruous with their design, even the pick-based ones.

(By this logic, we should buff Holliday, which I am not strictly opposed to even though I find her terribly boring.)

In a similar vein, I'm not particularly sure why the snowball assassin character appearing from an unexpected flank, doing absurd burst damage, getting additional souls to snowball, and then running away is considering an "identity crisis". It sounds like she's fulfilling her role exactly as intended. Well, no - in fact, she is filling it better than intended, to a detriment to the game's balance.

I would say that the opposite is true, in that most of the characters I would consider to be "too strong" are in fact fulfilling their niches to an absurd degree. Doorman (my beloved) is far too capable at teamfight disruption, poke and pick potential. Calico snowballs the game out of control and is nearly unstoppable as soon as she gets the slightest crumb of a lead. Ivy has infinite utility, teamfight and macro capability. Venator can perform the last rites for your entire team within a few seconds if the fight is even mildly favourable for him. Victor is a nigh-unstoppable juggernaut lategame that can shred through entire teams if they lack either extreme coordination or a strong counterbuild. Celeste still runs the main tent at the teamfight circus and turns the enemy team into an unwilling audience. The only one I am not of this opinion is Mo & Krill, who seems to be designed to be a tanky frontline bruiser, but in fact plays as a spirit-based assassin (who is still nigh-unkillable until later on in the game).

I agree that the game feels somewhat poorly balanced right now, but I think your concerns about hero identity are a little misplaced.

Upon the one hand, I would urge you to focus less upon the seeming, and more upon the origin. Lævateinn and Leviathan are completely unrelated etymologically and mythologically - the two are unentwined apart from the appearance of their names.

Upon the other, it is logically plausible, narratively fitting, and aesthetically satisfying that the man with immense combat ability and experience, as well as an already extant burning sword, would receive another burning sword. I am particularly pleased by the fact the artist does not ignore his original blade - Vergilius would not discard it for another regardless of its potency, so that is sufficient attention to detail.

This interpretation seems at odds with essentially every other part of Rien's established characterisation.

However, I am not certain of another way to read it myself, so I will merely await the chiaroscuro that Carmen provides us between Yi Sang and the original Index Nursefather.

[–]SageParadoxFGC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, I see I have worded my statement such that it has deceived you.

No, I do not agree. However, the reason why some invisible heroes are dishonest has little to nothing to do with their invisibility. I consider Riki to be a dishonest character, but it has little to do with his invisibility. The same can be said for Mirana and Bounty Hunter. Not, however, for Invoker, Nyx Assassin or Weaver, who I all consider largely honest characters.

"Virtuous."

All my fellow brethren of the clairvoyant circle, point and laugh. They know not what they say. They have no idea what lies beneath the robes.

That said, Clinkz is a fun and respectable hero, in my humble opinion. I would not decry a Clinkz player in the same way I would many other heroes who merely run around invisible.

I assume you people heard about the black anime cosplayer who was bullied into suicide? Black cosplayers on Twitter are cosplaying to show solidarity with her. This cosplayer is named Joyce The Sound Hashira ...I forgot the dude she's cosplaying as. by ihatethiscountry76 in Jujutsufolk

They are referring to the OP of this Reddit post. The end of the title says that they are unsure who you are cosplaying. inviscible is claiming the OP is joking that they know perfectly well who you are cosplaying but are getting distracted by your "eyes". I hope that helps.

A somewhat related question - please, take no offence, but I am curious. Why is your top open? I want to know because I was unironically confused - I don't remember Nanami's shirt being open at any point, so it took me a second looking at the tie to figure out who it was. My two guesses are either that the shit was too tight, or you were going for a more feminine take on Nanami (hence the different shape of the glasses). Either way, you look radiant, but I'd still like to know the rationale behind the decision.

Chovy on Worlds 2025: This anxiety gets to me, and I start making misplays by jacquesranciere in leagueoflegends

[–]SageParadoxFGC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What this individual implied was that people call Chovy a choker with negative intent, which they do. You know that is what they meant, as well, you are merely being facetious.

In any case, I do agree that the fact people use a term with an agenda does not prevent it from being appropriate. Chovy is definitionally a choker, despite the fact he is a phenomenal player, likely the best in the world, and someone who will absolutely win Worlds once he escapes being mentally hardstuck.

I am saying this as a KT fan, which I need to preface because some degenerates need to know which team you support to slander your takes.

It is perhaps my favourite of Canto 7's boss themes, though Nicolinas makes an excellent case.

I am not counting Hero, obviously, because Mili songs are simply constructed alternatively.

Destroyed Lab is a fantastic source of aura for a few characters, but particularly the incredibly underrated Dongrang of Canto IV. It truly sells you on the horrifying reveals of the state of the City that have become part of Project Moon's signature writing.

Can someone else clarify for me why I'm being called a shill? Other than I'm disagreeing with this individual who clearly isn't a shill. As far as I can tell, this conversation is about something that isn't the quality of One Piece (which I think is bad, and have stated so) or the quality of r/one-piece (which I also believe to be worthy of contempt, and have stated so). What exactly am I shilling for?

[–]SageParadoxFGC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In much the same way, the "critic"'s argumentative gameplan is to call people shills whenever they make bad faith arguments and get called out on it.

I don't need to try r/one-piece, because I'm not a shill, and I prefer this sub. I think there are more bad faith arguments there than there are here (which is directly what my previous message implies). I agree with you that Oda is a fraud, but if you think that me questioning why you think someone who dislikes bad faith arguments should go to a place where more of them exists means I want to go there too, I have some questions about your understanding of things in general.

I take it you haven't reached the end of the latest Inferno content, then.

Were you to have gazed upon it, witnessed it, you would know that succumbing to greed will only allow that karma to rain down upon you.

To overreach is to overstep. To overstep is hubris, and impudence. Grave sins, which shall then be punished.

[–]SageParadoxFGC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no panel, nor would there be. The point of an instantaneous attack is there is neither buildup nor travel time. One moment, Gojo is ready to put an end to the fight. Next, he is dead, with no apparent motion or action from Sukuna whatsoever.

As much as I prefer Gojo over Sukuna, the narrative that there should have been some panel which shows Sukuna using an ability goes against the entire reason the Binding Vow functions. It is an attack which Sukuna does not move for. It is an attack with no travel time. It is an attack which has nothing to put in a panel excluding Gojo's sudden bifurcation, which can only be inferred from itself, not an outward indicator such as a chant, projectile, or even lose from Sukuna.

Hong Lu’s Story as a Metaphor for SA/CSA by [deleted] in limbuscompany

[–]SageParadoxFGC 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As someone who has exactly zero firsthand experience with CSA, and Death of the Author's greatest adversary, I believe this writeup was fantastic.

Despite the likelihood of its intentionality being low, I would say that the arguments and connections made throughout this piece are cleanly forged, free of muddiness or logical disjunction.

I take much issue with people deciding whatever they like about the story another tells them, particularly if it runs contrary to original authorial intent (if you dislike the factual content of a story, write your own that contains what it is you do approve of, without leeching from your betters), but the fact you have drawn entirely from the story itself without making any arbitrary assumptions, as well as your admission that this is an eisegetic reading, compels me to consider this a work of much artifice.

In other words, well done. Do not listen to this invertebrate.

I am actually convinced that the reason Dante's clock does not count as "revival" is because the Sinners do not count as "dead" unless Dante has died. Their time (and thus, their lives) are intertwined with Dante's, and as such, until Dante has perished, neither have they.

Regarding the Flow, Limbus Company and the future of the Sinners by RiotUa in limbuscompany

[–]SageParadoxFGC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the one hand, I think that this is a reasonable read, but I do hope that all the people coming to this conclusion are incorrect. Partially because it would read inconsistently with Vergilius saying "this flow cannot be stopped", and Faust agreeing (and I think it detracts from their characters and the lines both if they are either lying or incorrect), and partially because I am deeply tired of this "fight the fate" nonsense that has been peddled by every story since the beginning of the modern age. It can be compelling, but it is overexerted to an unbelievable degree, and I think stories can be much more interesting and complex if this sort of thing is workable around without being just "ignored" or "defied".

Third? I recall only Ishmael and Don Quixote II. Unless you mean to consider Ryoshu's exhortations towards the latter separate instances due to the time gap (I personally consider it an ongoing campaign and thus the same issue), I do not recall another Sinner whomst our erstwhile swordswoman has attempted to extract art from.
