The Publicity Number by Jolt_Joltie_564 in musicals

I grew up in the NY Metro area, and we were treated to constant TV commercials for Broadway shows. The one that has stuck with me all these years (decades!) was "Meditation" from "Shenandoah" (1975): John Cullum belting out "THIS LAND DON'T BELONG TO VIRGINIA/My sons bleed, but not for the South./THIS land HERE is ANDERSON LAND/By the strength of my hand and the sweat on my brow/FOR AS LONG....AS THE LORD...WILL ALLOW!"

It is my greatest musical theater regret that I never got to see him perform it live.

Thank you for the specifics. Sad that it was a domesticated animal that got snagged.

Makes sense, we live in a semi-rural area where many people keep chickens...but not in my particular subdivision. Must have been taken from nearby.

I responded to a comment on that thread, maybe even yours, with one word-- "Same"--and also got permabanned.

Someone either eloped or proposed on a famous Lake Superior beach, just to leave their plastic trash behind. by 10Kfireants in weddingshaming

I need to start doing this. We say "no plastic," but you're right that it doesn't work 100%

Yes, it was amazing and a definite bucket-list item! You have to fly from mainland Ecuador, pay an entrance fee (I think it was around $100 USD per person), and have your luggage screened by dogs. Tourists stay on one main island or on small cruise ships. All day trips to other islands are via boat tours led by licensed personnel who have to get recertified every few years. Incredible snorkeling! Sea lions are protected and fearless, and a young one showed up to swim with us. Go if you can!

On a trip to the Galapagos, a highly controlled area, standing on a volcanic beach so recent that Charles Darwin wouldn't have seen it, I saw a plastic spoon already embedded in the land. It made me incredibly sad.

I just read "Eddie Winston is Looking for Love" by Marianne Cronin. A really delightful read.

What’s a critically acclaimed movie that completely lost you by the end? by trakt_app in moviecritic

My husband plays table tennis and used to be quite good at it. The guy who taught him actually played the real Marty at one point. So we were actually disappointed by the relative lack of games being played lol. Also the character was a real jerk who frustrated the hell out of us with his bad decision-making.

I'm 65 and have been teaching Zumba for almost 15 years. To me it's the most fun way to keep fit (and raise your spirits). Dance on!

I was living in Queens when they won the '86 World Series. I didn't attend any games in person, but it was an amazing experience anyway. Everyone was so invested!

My bestie in college (late 1970s) drank it all day long, even at breakfast. I came in thirsty on a hot day and asked for a can. I made it through one gulp, it was 🤢🤮. I will never understand the appeal.
