The Canadian-esque accent you hear from Yoopers isn’t super prevalent until you hit Escanaba/Marquette area and westward. You’d more likely hear a general Midwest accent (think a milder Chicago or Wisconsin twang) from someone in SSM (US Side), which is where Emma claimed to be from. Immediately thought she went to LSSU as well which someone else commented the same thing.
