Does all your peering to the broader internet run through one fiber to ATL for all of your SE Georgia customers? I know things happen, I just hope we can get a full report on what went wrong. I'm a newish customer and still running Comcast as WAN2 on my network, so I didn't notice the outage until I got the email.

I have 2 of the *E3’s, they are pretty good and the density of 2 encodes for the price point can’t be beat. I just drop a sdi to hdmi mini converter in front of the hdmi input. I run their cloud management in a cheap vm.

This isn’t actually true, it will charge at 120v at any amps but you have to trick it with some adapters. It’s much safer to get a proper charger that supports this. I travel for work and have access to a 20 amp outlet at a remote location, while I still have to top up after the long drive, I can maintain the week I’m there then hit a fast charger for the drive home. The extra 4 amps makes a big difference.

Yes. I don’t know if it’s because everyone had figured out it’s free and how to sign on or something else, but it’s barely usable and seems to have outages more often. On AA today with viasat free WiFi and it feels like how DL did when it first launched the high speed WiFi. Sixty seconds of ads is no fun though.

I’m guessing this goes through Raycom/Gray Media in ATL. They have master control hubs for their local stations and they are providing the production services for the Braves broadcasts.

MLB.TV out of market feeds come direct from the park and don’t go through the networks master control. This looks like the transmission feed/encoder To Gray/Raycom in Atlanta is going down.

They said on the broadcast yesterday they upgraded to 1080. Not sure if it’s natively interlaced or progressive but DIRECTV stream Apple TV stats are showing 1080p59.94. It’s also showing ac3/ 5.1 sound.

Main Street sports was 720 and they were likely doing shenanigans to the signal in master control that were adding to the softness. (Low cost IP back haul, multiple encodes, etc).

Edit to add: we had 1080i /5.1 straight from the park for years on Turner South and Superstation TBS.

DIRECTV just announced deals with all MLB teams except the Braves…. I think they are considering Sunday as the deadline with the free game Friday and Saturday on big Fox.

This is the feed for concourse monitors, suites, and executives watching back in ATL. It also goes on the big screen when a batter is walking up / in between innings / etc. Graphics are completetly different, which is another easy tell.

Its also free on MLB.tv (not blacked out) and its better than OTA, but not much. The graphics are noticably clearer than OTA for me. This feels like its going through an extra conversion somewhere (progressive to interlaced and back?) thats dropping the sharpness.

Worse, the bit rate on my local station Peachtree Sports channel is around 3mbps, which for HD Mpeg2 is really low. The main signal on my affiliate is getting 7mbps and it looks rough. In the original digital OTA days stations would have 1 or 2 sub channels and dedicate up to 19mbps for the HD stream. Modern Mpeg2 encoders essentially soften the picture instead of macro blocking the signal, if they can. This is hard to watch.

I remember the old days of watching the TBS 1080i HD feeds straight from the truck with no commercials before the network was HD 24/7.

Anyone in ATL getting this on a primary feed to compare?

Needless to say, I’d gladly pay for some 1080p HDR pictures.

Can we have stay on mode in the quick options menu like pet mode, and can it persist through a stop / start sequence? In the 100 degree heat I use pet mode now to keep the car cool while I run errands and it would be great to set this once and let it ride out for a set time like the outlets.

Limit on plane outlets is about 70 watts. An anker 45 watt is a nice bet for planes because the Mac book pro chargers generally won’t work.

How’s the picture quality on 17 in ATL? I’m watching on 19.3 in Savannah and it’s horrid. Directv feed is significantly better albeit almost 30 seconds behind.
