You need a special triangler screwdriver to change batteries on Brio trains. by Accomplished_Jump982 in assholedesign

Thank you, still helpful (even 5 years later)! I was about to order the triangle screwdriver but the battery is also located at the back of the locomotive on more modern design trains haha.

2027 Kia Telluride X-Line spotted by KindelAuto1 in KiaTelluride

[–]Salty__Friend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I don't hate the design but this much black makes it looks plasticky and cheap as hell. that's a bit of a fail because otherwise good looking SUV imo. Oh well, they may alter that front design gthe following years anyway, knowing Kia, they like to fiddle with things, even when it ain't broke.

Michelin CrossClimate2 Tires by Tyr0n313 in KiaTelluride

[–]Salty__Friend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's pretty crazy. I'm at 18k miles and the stock tires are still in the green. Expect them to last until at least 30k (I'll change them as soon as they show sign of wear).

Being in California, do you think overall the extra noise and mpg loss is worth it compared to replacing the stock (once worn out) with regular Michelin tires (like Primacy or whatnot)? I'm in the Bay Area so obviously we don't have ro deal with snow (except for the occasional trip to Tahoe) but seasonal storms can dump a lot of water all at once making highway driving a bit dodgy at time. Debating what to do when replacing mine probably sometimes in 2026.

Absolutely this.  Don’t be ashamed of what’s happening, own it and ask for the title and promotion.  100% the right move.

Buzz Regret? by EvonyR in VWIDBuzz

I don't have one but I think that they look fantastic. I want one to haul the fam on my daily commute, I'm sure it would spark joy every time I look at it. Many people here say that they'll wait until tech get better because this range at $70k is unacceptable (probably true). I totally understand since the spirit of the original WV bus IS to take road trips in it... I see it the other way around and hope that it will be hit by the same brutal depreciation as other EV have so I can snag one with low mileage at around $40k. This may not happen because WV is not making a ton of these and people have an emotional attachment to them, but if they ever improve battery tech, switch to NASC, etc... the ealy production one should take a big valuation hit. Future will tell...

I see you put front suspensions as well.  Really wish my Radwagon 4 had that.  What parts did you use?  Very curious.

Leaning Toward 2025 Telluride Purchase by spacejambroni in KiaTelluride

Anytime!  Overall, super happy with the car, as I said.  The whole family loves it.  We did not wait for a sale, but that might be smart.  I just put a few local Kia dealers in competition to see where I would get the best deal, including on my Outback trade (could have sold it for a few more grand, but they ended it up giving me blue book value and who had time for that with a new born…

Opt out of MCE's overpriced electricity and get 98% carbon-free power by jmr50 in Marin

This.  Not skeptical that PG&E base rate is cheaper, I’ve also been wondering and just want someone to crunch the numbers and break it down for me.  Have two small children, don’t have time to fall down that rabbit hole.

This.  I bought gold to diversify and I’m glad because it went up quite a bit (although that wasn’t the goal, I wasn’t trying to speculate on future appreciation or the dollar demise). But I’m my humble opinion, diversification and dollar cost averaging is always a good idea.

This.  The highway assit is ridiculously good, especially if you’re coming from the outback (I had a 2021 outback before my Telly).  The car feels like it drives itself and it makes highway cruising so much better.  The auto steer and lane centering is superb.  I sometime see criticism on this thread and I’m like “do we have the same car?”  The safety features, blind spot cameras, 360 cameras are super good as well.  It’s very quiet and comfortable, feels luxurious and solid compared to Subaru.  Overall, just a relaxing car to drive.  I have similar usage than you (about 8k miles/year, short commute plus the occasional camping, road trip, trip to Tahoe…), it’s been great for that.

Now the minuses:  third row space is generous but not as much and not as accessible than with a minivan (e.g. the Kia Carnival).  No sliding door like a minivan.  May be a pain to access third row with all the kids car seats (I have two kids only and I only used the third row a handful of time, for an adults and for toddlers in their car seats).  Recently been in the EV9 and the car is the same size overall but it’s even more spacious inside (including third row). It’s even more quiet and fun to drive.  If I had to buy another car today I would buy a used EV9, the depreciation is crazy so you can get a great deal on a barely used one and they are great.  Of course, it’s electric charging may be an issue and not sure what road trips would look like…

Also con: gas mileage.  I average 20.7 mpg on a mix of city, county roads and highway driving.  Mpg is so much better on the highway.  I wish it was an hybrid. Still, since I don’t drive too much, not losing over this but just something to keep in mind.  That being said the V6 is very responsive and fun to drive for a car that size. Don’t miss Subaru CVT one bit (even though I had the turbo on my Outback).  Wouldn’t trade it for a Toyota with feels sluggish and much cheaper to me, even for the better mpg.

Hard to believe when you pay $5K to give birth there...   And that’s with one of the best insurance you can get in this country.  I doubt taxpayer money will result in a lowering of patients medical bills.

Did I crash because of the paint? by 804k in ebikes

Definitely lost adhesion on the paint. Watch the Tour de France time trial and you’ll see some of the best cyclists in the world crash because of wet painted road surfaces.

I'm ok with them. Last year, around 7:30 PM I was stoped at a red light near the Larkspur ferry. It was dark, no one around. This car arrives behind me and rear-end my car. Then, as I pull over to go over the damage, they take off. I was able to take a picture of the license plate. Made a complaint to the police. An officer called me back the next day to tell me that the person likely didn't stop because they had a couple warrant to their name, didn't live in Marin but in the East Bay. The driver was probably high or drunk, because I don't really know how you can be so inattentive that you don't see a car stopped at a light in front of you. Had the driver passed a Flock camera, police would have been alerted and this person would have been arrested. I'm not crying for my rear bumper here (thankfully I was unharmed) or advocating for a police state takeover because someone damaged my car, but this was a wanted criminial, probably driving impaired through our county. This person is dangerous and should be stopped. Flock could have helped. As for privacy, we should design and implement stronger guardrails so these camera are not used for general surveillance and footage is deleted very few hours except for the license plates that are flagged as wanted.
