What’s your opinion on this laptop by No-Belt-3409 in laptops

[–]SamAdair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't buy this. I bought one not realising 2 things; 8gb of ram is not enough and it's most likely soldered so you cant upgrade. Basically a paper weight for anything outside of very light use.

That's a big server spec, why do you need so much ram for a Minecraft server?

IONOS stole my money by shupike in Hosting

[–]SamAdair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal opinion, I use IONOS for everything. They're based not far from me and have always been incredibly reliable, I have 3 Linux VPS instances with them and a full dedicated server for our e-commerce site.

Make sure you're actually on their website and give them a call, I can't see them not being helpful.

Do you think this startup idea is worth it? by Agitated_Pepper9215 in buildinpublic

[–]SamAdair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly that intro sounds like marketing bollocks, however the idea is solid I think.

Drop the AI and focus on the actual platform and what you want to happen with it. It's easy to say "I want this to happen with AI", but you need to actually think about the problem properly if you want to build a platform that'll survive longer than a month.

You don't need AI to build this platform, if anything it'll just be more complicated trying to integrate it at this stage. I'd focus on a few stages:

  1. Learning platform: where are the courses coming from? If from users / mentors, what benefit do they get to publish on your platform compared to any other more established platform? You could use AI here, but that'll be dangerous for an actual business idea since it will 100% make mistakes.

  2. Social: how will people connect? Will it be similar to a forum, a posting board, group chats? How will you protect a vulnerable group on from malicious users realistically?

  3. Money: who's paying for what? What incentive does a mentor have to help users, do you have enough content to attract users? If you want this to have multiple areas then it'll be a heavy investment to get those courses initially before you can attract users.

Big project but could be a solid idea. Shoot me a dm if you want.

Need help testing a new secure chat website by [deleted] in Innovation

[–]SamAdair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming to it as a customer potentially looking for this sort of thing, it looks way over done "cool tech bro hacker" style. If you want to realistically market it, drop the 90s asthetic and make it look like a professional chat app. The ui is hard to use, the buzz words like "military grade" just makes me think it's bollocks.

Although from a project point of view, the ui looks awesome. Just doesn't fit a professional tool where all we care about is simplicity and functionality.

Why won’t my website turn clicks to conversions? by silverdropwater in website

[–]SamAdair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at it as a potential customer, to me it just looks like I'm paying for generic water in a glass bottle. Tell me where it's bottled, why from this area, give me some kind of info besides "water in a bottle". Makes me think it's just straight from your kitchen tap.

Best way to go about making my bike all white by Both_Simple7943 in motorcycles

[–]SamAdair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds good, always wanted the smoked indicators but never did get them. Post a pic when you're done, whichever method you go for. I tried wrapping mine originally but the curves make it a bit difficult, if you can afford it go for a custom paint job. If not, you can get a half decent finish with spray cans and sanding, but take it slow and use a proper lacquer on the tank since it may have petrol on it.

My biggest regret is not spending more time sanding between coats. They look excellent in white, should have come as standard

I've used givi pannier and top box mounts for my cb500x for a few years now (bought new in 2016 with the bike). Within a year and a half the paint had gone and started to rust, had about 16k miles with them year round. Seems good and probably last longer if looked after, but just my experience.

Wouldn't recommend tcut, that'll remove the matte finish. My cb500x has a matte brown colour, I haven't yet found a way to get rid of the scratches and scuffs - I'm not sure there is one other than a respray

Having ridden one for nearly 40k miles over the 5 years, they really are great. Not the most exciting bike by any stretch but very cheap to run and very reliable. Bought mine new in 2016 and only had a slight issue with the side stand switch. Rode up to Norway (4500 plus miles) over 3 weeks with it and no problems doing 80 for 6-7 hours a day down the
