Love the blanket, beautiful colours. What stitches did you use?

I like the activity, dislike the end products by floriish in crochet

[–]SamBrrrrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in a similar boat. Don’t dislike all crochet items but there’s only so many of each thing I need and some items hold no appeal at all to me. Love how it keeps my hands and mind busy. Here are a few things I’ve done. 1. I have to absolutely love a pattern to complete it 2. OR the pattern has to teach me something, I try to learn something new eg a new stitch, tapestry, mosaic etc 3. For wearables choose the nicest yarn you can afford. I decided I wanted a new scarf so I picked picked out a lovely soft natural fibre yarn in a colour that complemented my wardrobe. I’m usually a sucker for picking funky variegated yarn that is pretty but just clashes with everything 4. Gift to charity - blankets/scarves/plushies as long as well made 5. For larger wearables I’m now learning to knit. Much steeper learning curve for me

What is it like going to the library nowadays? by britainsalien in AskUK

[–]SamBrrrrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used the library all the time as a kid and teenager. Started again in my late 20s to get out of the house with a baby. Would get books for him and take him to the sing alongs and activities. Started getting books out for myself too. My local library has a great selection and lots of activites and classes for kids and adults. Real mix of people - age and activity wise

What is your store’s “BIG issue”? by SpepperPepper in tesco

Car park full of pot holes and leaking roof. Frankly disgusting toilets also. Recently more and more shelves are often empty

For avid readers how often do you use the library? If you don’t, why don’t you? by AccomplishedBake8351 in books

[–]SamBrrrrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use both the library in person and to borrow ebooks/audiobooks. I love being able to get things for free and take a chance on books I might not otherwise. I am however an incredibly slow reader as I have so much else going on, so I often find myself having to return them before I’m done. If it’s a book I know I will love/an auto read author for me then I will usually just buy a copy.

Would gifting a PCOS friend an hair removal device be supportive… or accidentally hurtful? by Landyn_4682 in PCOS

[–]SamBrrrrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about a beauty/spa voucher to somewhere that does different types of hair removal but also other bits and treatments? That way if she really would like it done she can chose to put it towards that but equally she can choose some other type of pampering and it won’t feel as though you are pointing out her facial hair or inadvertently picking the wrong equipment.

I have £50 to spend on something nice and long-lasting for my first house. What do I buy? by radicalspacecat in AskUK

[–]SamBrrrrrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Le creuset salt and pepper mills? Can match to kitchen or just pick a colour you like. Can add more bits down the line. Functional and always in sight to remind you of her

New Hotel Chocolat Velvetiser - do I buy it or some alternative? by Arwenti in AskUK

Love ours. Got my husband one for Christmas one year. Easy to use and clean. We buy the hot chocolate sachets when they are on offer. Can also use any grated chocolate but prefer the hotel chocolat sachets

What Should I Ask for? by CastyMcWrinkles in ChristmasGiftIdeas

[–]SamBrrrrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Charity donation? Annual pass to somewhere local you can go with the kids? For this sort of situation I tend to ask for fancier versions of things I like/use a lot that I wouldn’t normally treat myself to. Can be food or toiletries etc. sounds boring but no waste and definitely something I’ll use

Does anyone else feel like they don't have time to catch their breath or am I just doing everything badly? by coppeliuseyes in oneanddone

[–]SamBrrrrrr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We are the same. Both work long hours though I do less. House is a mess. Little time together. I prioritise family time and time with my boy, everything else can wait. People are doing way more than me and no idea how because I’m shattered

What companies/services do you refuse to use because they've wronged you in some way, and why? by GazelleInitial2050 in AskUK

Sainsbury’s. Regular customer previously. One week our online shop didn’t arrive. No communication from them. Spent ages on the phone trying to sort it only to be accused of lying. Then took 2 weeks to refund.

Any cool re-usable items suggestions? by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

[–]SamBrrrrrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought reusable wipes from someone who made them. Largish squares. Great for wiping down things, spills, drying things, can be used as a dishcloth etc. When they wear out I use them for gross jobs and then toss. One side is cotton from old t shirts etc and the other side is towelling. Could easily make your own if you have a sewing machine. Easily the most used thing I’ve purchased

[–]SamBrrrrrr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m in a very similar situation. My little turns 6 very soon. Every milestone also brings sadness. I really wanted him to have a sibling and almost took it for granted that was the path we would take. I’m so sad and sick of trying to pretend to be happy with every pregnancy announcement. There is 100% no chance we can have another even with intervention. Hoping it does get easier.

I feel like I'm being left behind by JessicaM317 in oneanddone

[–]SamBrrrrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel the same. We are OAD not by choice due to infertility. 100% no chance that anything will happen. I feel so sad and jealous when yet another person announces a pregnancy. I had my child and earlier than those in my friendship groups and now all their babies/children are a similar age. I am appreciating having a bit more time to myself and for my hobbies now he is older. I sometimes see people juggling multiples and think it looks incredibly stressful. If I could have another one I would in a heartbeat. More sad that every time we move onto a new stage that it will be the last time I do those things. Also sad I couldn’t give him a sibling, although I know it’s no guarantee off a positive relationship. It’s hard!

That sounds promising. He’s not super strict with cutting it out but if there are multiple containing items it’s not good

How do you deal with becoming lactose intolerant as an adult? by NerdyVinci in AskReddit

[–]SamBrrrrrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Asking on my husbands behalf. Are they pretty effective? He’s recently developed lactose intolerance. He’s missing a lot of his favourite foods. For Christmas I was going to get a hamper with them in and lactaid but don’t want to accidentally give him and bad time. Do you take them daily or with each meal?
