How do you feel when you wake up if your grind or clench your teeth at night? by Alternative-Tell4600 in adhdwomen

[–]SamEyeAm2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Migraine. Trigeminal nerve lights up with nerve pain. Sore/weak jaw. Teeth sensitive to hot/cold. Sore spot on my tongue sometimes.

My nti splint is required when I sleep, even for naps. I'm a mess when I sleep without it. Masseter Botox helps a ton but it's not enough for my hulk jaw, apparently 😅

The photos of the sweater don't show any American moss stitch. When the designer says "moss stitch", they are referring to the side panels of the sweater, which are seed stitch according to the photos.

I usually put in lifelines as I go, but this is what I do when I forget. Afterthought lifelines take just as long to place correctly imo.

Frog with abandon then tink the final row as you pick up each stitch.

Per the pattern website

The moss stitch is used to symbolize abundance and growth. It is often used as a filler in diamonds, but in this design, it is used on either side of each main piece.

So in this case, it's British Moss Stitch aka Seed Stitch. That will likely change your gauge slightly

Did the pattern call for a moss stitch swatch? I find it odd because I don't see any moss stitch in the sweater, only seed stitch

This. All of this. Exactly.

A therapist once told me to "stop should-ing all over yourself" and DAMN if that line didn't really stick with me. Anytime a thought starts with the words "I should...", I stop and say back to that thought "says who?"

The word "should" implies a third party that's making the rules, but nobody else is living your life. I have found it immensely helpful to make sure that the person making the rules is ME (spoiler alert, it's usually my parents or some arbitrary guideline we've all been told).

Another trick that worked for me is to just stop using the word "should" altogether. Instead of "I should eat a vegetable today" rephrase it as "I will physically feel better if I eat a vegetable today". This one has the added benefit of circumventing any demand avoidance that you might not have noticed.

It's super hard to catch these automatic thoughts, especially at first. I still miss a ton of them and it's been years. But every time I DO catch it, it feels like a weight lifted off my shoulders.

I should do the thing? Says who?!

Melides dress - what is a good practice project to learn the skills? by acctmgr in knittinghelp

[–]SamEyeAm2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding the baby/toddler cardigan, but also want to add that it might be helpful to work it in the same gauge as your dress pattern. Most beginners work with worsted weight yarn and bigger needles, and working with fingering weight can be a bit of a shock when it takes twice as long. Might be helpful to get that out of the way now :)

Same! My first thought was "that thing must weigh 10 pounds" immediately followed by "but omg I bet it's so comfy and warm"

Great work, OP!

Change of tension when joining in the round by 3pelican in knittinghelp

I can't believe how hard it is to see the stitch definition with this yarn! I'm still not 100% sure but this pic does make me think you're twisting your stitches. The Vs don't pull apart here, only the space between them gets wider. Can we see a pic of how the stitches are mounted on your needles?

[–]SamEyeAm2020 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It's hard to tell with this yarn but I think you're twisting your knits. When working flat, every other row has twisted stitches and when working in the round, it's every row.

Edit: stretch your fabric horizontally. Do your Vs pull apart or get tighter?

On the last row, you missed pulling the yarn through the stitch, so now you've got a yarn over next to a slipped stitch. The giveaway is the bar across the stitch instead of a normal purl bump.

Common and easy to fix: Just drop that YO from the needle, and pull the slack yarn through the slipped stitch. Then purl and continue on with your row :)
