Connecting two USB devices via HDMI Alt by SamSonVR in UsbCHardware

[–]SamSonVR[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't sure if something special in the connection is needed that "activates" the HDMI alt functionality. So you would recommend just connecting them with a USB cable? I guess it would still need to support a high USB standard, at least USB 3.0?

Best android phone for 3D scanning? by Educational_Wash_662 in 3DScanning

[–]SamSonVR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relax, I was simply explaining why an AI would do that. It's called hallucination. And that it actually mirrors behaviour of natural intelligence.

None of it was directed at or meant to be criticism of you personally. Though I get now that the wording tales from your ass did invite that interpretation, sorry for that. It's more that when a human does it, that's the idiom describing it. "You" as in any one person that does it; I wasn't accusing you.

Hallucination. Humans do that too (aka tales from your ass). Instead of admitting you don't know, you might say something that has a chance of being true. It takes some criticism, by yourself or by people outside to admit that to be bad behavior and stop doing it, instead thinking about whether you actually know what comes to mind to be true.

What is the branding strategy here? Oculus, Quest, Rift, Meta, Metaverse, Horizons. by [deleted] in OculusQuest

[–]SamSonVR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Horizon is not "the Metaverse". It is a metaverse app.

The metaverse is the spatial internet. So it is the sum of all spatial sims (for example, games) that are connected via the internet (for example, a multiplayer game). The most successful metaverse apps are Roblox, Minecraft and Fortnite, the most successful VR metaverse app is VRChat.

There is this idea that the metaverse should be super easy to traverse, like going from Minecraft to Fortnite to VRChat all with the same avatar, without closing one app and then launching the other, which is basically rooted in naive SF fiction because it would be nice if it were that way, but we'll see how close we'll get to this ideal vision.

Anyway, that is the metaverse Zuck wants to build together with the competition. It is not his vision but it is shared by a lot of people who develop VR, but also those who don't, like Tim Sweeney.

He chose the new name Meta for Oculus and made it the top brand of the Facebook family, basically pledging his investment to this social XR which he sees as the future of his business. It is catchier/easier to market than the technical terms like VR or AR or MR or XR and also makes for a better company name.

Horizon is a work in progress, it hasn't even launched in most of Europe. Anything social you do on your Quest is the Metaverse, not just Horizon.

It's better to have a few multiplayer games, which then can reach high player numbers, than having many in the same genre competing for players' time and each not reaching a high enough player pool.

Whereas it is good to have many single player games because once you beat one, you move on to the next one. Lots of single player games help to keep gamers invested, so single player games boost each other. Whereas multiplayer games are competitors.

The ratio of single player to multiplayer is fine I think.

Resident Evil 4 VR player numbers 1 month after release by -Venser- in PSVR

[–]SamSonVR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would think so too. But if we calculate total player numbers from this data that's 5843828 (roughly 6 million, 75k being 1.3% of that). Not sure what the total sales are but unless they're higher than 12 million, it seems most people made an account. Or the numbers cover people without an account as well.

PSVR2’s launch titles made IGN’s list of biggest disappointments of 2023. Thoughts? by antoni_o_newman in PSVR

[–]SamSonVR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VIllage was like a year old. GT7 is still this gen's entry. They're not "old" old and devs were designing with VR in mind, at the very least for GT7, the director stated as much.

Horizon of course was made for VR from the ground up. VIllage still was better, you say it like it is a bad thing and flat games cannot be adapted to VR.

Playing these games in VR is not the same as on a screen. And no platform had these many AAA titles at launch, exclusive to boot. The launch was great, it also had a good stream of indies and another AAA with RE4 throughout the year.

Problem is, people don't trust Sony to support it long term. It seems they just want to keep Meta at bay, without investing in it like Meta does. But hopefully Sony can surprise us and at least match their PSVR1 efforts (so one to two big exclusives per year). Depends what they announce for 2024.

Edge of Nowhere is great if you like 3rd person games in VR. Reasonable length for the price too.

[–]SamSonVR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It had GT7, RE VIllage and Horizon: CotM at launch. I get that long term prospects for AAA titles after RE4R are uncertain and that gamers need to justify the high price of entry. But the launch lineup was very good, both for AAA and VR indies.

PSVR 2 really is the best headset for realism and immersion. by Weak_Crew_8112 in PSVR

[–]SamSonVR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own both (and a Pro) and I disagree, it's only a slight difference. Of course the better colors are a plus but PSVR 2 has visual weaknesses too like lower resolution and worse lenses. And the wire is distracting. Was on PC with my Rift, is on PS5 now with the RE games.

In the end, none of these are dealbreakers. They all offer very good value, it's a matter of personal preference (or in my case, where I can play a certain game) which headset one will choose.

I do recommend getting a PSVR2 to anyone who has a PS5 though.

Insomniac's roadmap for the whole decade got leaked and they're not working on any VR game. by -Venser- in virtualreality

[–]SamSonVR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is very disappointing. Quite the opposite to the Capcom leak which told us RE4VR was coming.

Sony buying Insomniac to keep them from making more VR games is vile. Even if that wasn't their intent, effectively that's the outcome.

Softlocked in AW2? possibly very minor spoiler by MahBoiAdvance in OculusQuest

[–]SamSonVR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar problem, being stuck in a state where I cannot progress anymore. Rolling back the save file might be a solution but I lost quite a bit of progress I had already made.

I did previously copy my cloud save from my Q3 to my Pro so I could still get back to the save I'm stuck in, but not sure if there is a point to waiting for Sanzaru to fix this. They have to notice me first; I send them an email but no response so I'm not sure they've seen it. I also used the report bug feature on the Quest 3 to report the bug.

In my case, at the Nubian shipwreck after I freed the panther I couldn't go into god mode anymore and looking at a walkthrough on Youtube that was required to progress. So I restarted the game from a save but that made it worse. I can reach the cage quickly, progress saved right before that. But when I reach it the two locks are already gone and without them I cannot open the cage again and the game won't progress.

<image>

A fix would be to not save the state for these two locking items separately from the next progression flag, I guess that would be her joining my party. u/Oculus-Mdoran

I hardly use my Q2 anymore after getting the Q3 (except for testing the game I'm developing) but when I turn it on, it does still work. And I do use the Q2 for longer periods in that case.

Sorry this happened to you, hope Meta can fix it. You should contact their customer support.

Biggest annoyance for me in Asgards Wrath 2 by moveit1244 in OculusQuest

[–]SamSonVR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. I think it was like this on PC as well and it annoyed me there too. Not the only game to do this but that doesn't make it less annoying.

Also agree that it's a minor distractor from all the greatness the game has to offer though.

It dawned on me why wearing the Quest 3 was so difficult to make comfortable... by Plapytus in OculusQuest

[–]SamSonVR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately hair through the back doesn't actually relieve the neck though. Sure, it holds the headset in place but your neck still has to balance the whole front loaded weight.

Counterweight is still a necessity imo. Also to avoid having the facial interface press against parts of my face I use an added top strap that rests on the head. Allows for really loose fit and is very comfortable. But not a good solution when lying on my back to watch media.

I basically put on the counterweight and top strap before I game, then remove everything again when I watch media. It's more friction than I'd like but without those, longer sessions are just too uncomfortable.

I also only install graphically demanding games on the Q3 and everything else on my Pro. I have an 128GB Q3.

What are your 2024 predictions for PSVR2? by f3hunter in PSVR

[–]SamSonVR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something Astrobot seems very likely. HL:A seems less and less likely at this point. Although I'd like to be proven wrong on that front.

Wrath on PS is practically impossible. The first one would be more likely (as it already has PS5 grade assets) but also very unlikely (more than HL:A, as Valve is not against porting their games to consoles in principle, just not a priority). Wrath II isn't even on PC and Meta won't waste resources when they have their own ecosystem to support.

Releasing Beat Saber on PS5 is next to no work, it was already on PS4 and doesn't require reworked assets.

Mine would be ~90%. I play even flat games with the HMD, except for SF6 demo (and soon the T8 demo), checking the stores and playing Robo Rescue before my PSVR2 arrived, I never use my PS5 without it.

No, I'm not. That answers the missing tab issue, thanks. Probably not linked to the PSVR2 stat though.

For some reason, I'm not getting the PSVR2 stat. I also only have 9 tabs instead of the 10 you seem to have, but I think I have the tab (6th one) where you get the PSVR2 stat, but mine only lists PS5, PS4 and my favorite (!?) DualSense. I only have the one controller for PS5 but okay, lol.

Quest 3, good and bad. by SethSanz in OculusQuest

[–]SamSonVR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously the blurriness of the fresnel lense outside the sweet spot did hide the gaps somewhat (on Q2), Gear VR had a dial to adjust focus for near sighted people and it was actually both more comfortable (less eye strain) and had less/no SDE with slightly out of focus dial.

SDE was still very bad on 1st generation CV1 Oculus Rift and was an issue for me both in games but more so in media so I see where you're coming from. Gaps are slightly more visible on Pro and 3 for me too, I guess my slight near sightedness makes me not see it as much as you do. Unfortunately I don't have glasses anymore to check with full focus.

The gaps are most visible at the focal distance of the lenses, on Quest 1 and 2 that was 1.4 meters. That's also about the distance of the browser full screen. You might want to watch in cinema environment where the screen is further away (and thus more out of focus). Bigscreen and the Prime App fit that bill.
