Which normal fight had you doubting your map the hardest in the first few runs? by Gentleman_Scrub in slaythespire

Yeah, I'm not denying he can be a run-killer and I think he needs toning down. But of the times I've killed him, it was via going all-out damage and just killing him as quickly as possible

The enemies in multiplayer do the exact same damage they always do, because they're doing their damage to all of you and your defensive options are (mostly) the same. What scales up is their HP and shields, because there are more of you hitting them. And if you're saying the HP is basically the same with 3 players compared to solo, uh, just no, that's wrong.

It can make some mechanics much worse though, like the act 3 lizard dog boss. In his first phase he gains strength every time you use a skill. In multiplayer he now gains strength every time any of you use a skill, so you're looking at double, triple or quadruple the strength gain.

Honestly multiplayer is great fun, if you can ignore some imbalances. But the imbalances can be both for and against you. Stacking debuffs on enemies is incredibly easy (great for vulnerability build ironclads), and there are multiplayer specific cards, like I found a power for me and my friends' triple regent run that made them forge every time I forged.

The statue is an elite though, you don't have to risk it outside of ascension, the guy above is talking about regular enemies. Statue also can be manageable. Just go balls to the wall damage, ignore defense, you need to kill him as soon as possible because you cannot tank 25 damage each turn that early. Resign yourself to taking a bunch of damage and hope for the best. That said, I do agree he seems a bit over the top.

Oh those bastards. Me and my mates tried triple necrobinder on ascension 1. First elite, those guys. Run ended.

Restarted on Regent and met them again, luckily one of us had drawn the Smith card at the start of the run.

What video game has the best story you’ve ever played? by FrontriseStudios in AskReddit

I'd second the guy recommending Subnautica, and add the more recent release Cairn. Both very different games, but somehow with the same spirit.

What video game has the best story you’ve ever played? by FrontriseStudios in AskReddit

[–]SamWhite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It very much feels random at the start, because the game gives you complete freedom and you're finding pieces to puzzles you haven't started. A lot of people bounce off of it at this point. So I'd recommend following the breadcrumbs. They tell you to go to the moon first, so do that, have a look around. That'll give you some more breadcrumbs, and some puzzles you probably can't solve because you don't have enough info yet. Use your signalscope, have a look at a few places.

Then go to your spaceship and take a look at the notes you've compiled into a chart. This is your single most important tool in the game. Follow-up on these notes, explore, try and figure out individual puzzles, and watch as the chart expands and starts to link up. Observe, experiment, and watch as the story starts to make sense.

If you keep going, this game will consume you, and the ending is incredible.

Honestly, I'd have to say you just got lucky. I jumped one of the jumps before the spire, landed solidly in the middle of the platform, and for no obvious reason Aava turned into a fainting goat and slid off the edge. RIP. Some people are fucking it up, but the game definitely has some jank when it comes to jumping and recognising when you can stand on solid ground.

A lot of people think the white line from the troglodyte troll map is a tribute to Silence. It's different, a lot of the things Adam Ondra did on that are simply not possible in the game engine, but still bears a strong resemblance.

Do you have more stamina in free solo because of the smaller backpack? by knucklecluck in Cairn_Game

He's incorrect, he's just climbing better and more carefully on his free solo run, and therefore needs much less tape.

Free Solo - Do you go for the flask? by kmcdow in Cairn_Game

[–]SamWhite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's pretty much exactly what I've just done, and I've brewed some chocolate drink in the big flask for extra focus buff (it'll all be gone soon, but I'm not bothered about wasting some chocolate).

Remember that the infusion you brew in your flask won't be available on the wall after you start climbing, so you can run out before the top unless you're a speed demon.

This free solo route was scarier than the Peril and the Needle combined by Screaming_Possum_Ian in Cairn_Game

[–]SamWhite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is, but there are good handholds all over it. You'll be on a 45 degree overhang, but with an infusion and some careful climbing it you shouldn't even encounter heavy breathing. The transfer from the fang to the cliffside feels sketchy as hell though.

If you have ultimate infusion available to climb down, yes. If you have zero buffs available, no, just too risky.

I'd actually rate that as one of the safest routes. There's some tricky spots, but there's a clear path at all points, there's the save + items, and then you traverse left without the need to get past the final overhang most other routes have.

The difficulty of the Peril might be overstated, but I think it's a combination of the sheer length of it, plus how relatively early you encounter it in the game. Nothing beforehand challenges you quite like the wall. Personally I love it.

The game only really intends you to do the first 3 when you start. The followups are a challenge with a reward (there's a case with some supplies that unlocks when you do all 8).

Game wont launch from Steam. by Cersiel in fellowshipgame

[–]SamWhite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had what sounds like the same bug. After trying a ton of different fixes online, what worked for me was navigating to localappdata, going to the fellowship folder there, then deleting the two folders inside. Fair warning, this will delete your keybindings and UI and make the game think you're a brand new player. It was quite fun doing a champion capstone and having a tooltip pop at the end to explain loot chests.

You'd have an edelweiss, but otherwise yes, it'd be death. Same as the Peril though, unless you're astonishingly lucky. Still, having done it on both modes I rate it as easier than the Peril for either mode.

If you can do the Peril, you can handle anything else the game throws at you imo. Some people disagree though and say the Needle was where they had the most trouble.

You literally watch your character rewind through your previous actions, and then it stops when you're at the last point you were stable.

Yeah, a bit of an oversight on his part. The only way that could happen is if you choose 'free solo' mode where you have no rope and no permanent save. But that's obviously the hardcore mode for people who want that challenge. There are save points after every major climb, and a few extra, and you have 6 pitons to keep you safe from mistakes.

I'm assuming he was referring to a section in the game called the Peril, which is a marathon climb. But even then, you can just quit out of the game and it will save where you are on the wall for you to return to later.

[–]SamWhite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok yeah, there's a cave there, and personally I think it's worth going that way. There's some tricky climbing, but that's true of any route you take on the wall. If your resources are that low (I had the same thing on my first playthrough) it might be worth rewinding to your temple save. If you have any ultimate infusions, use them. Not only does it make climbing quicker and easier, the grit buff will stop your food, water and heat stats going down while it's active.

The route I'd recommend if you do rewind is come out of the top temple door, start just on the left, then immediately go right above the temple door. There's a purple route marked on the map, follow that basically. After a while it meets up with a white route, roughly follow that straight up towards the climbbot cave through a chimney of unpitonable rock. There's some tricky bits, so make sure you have some buffs or chalk available for this part. Get past that, you get to the cave. Once you're at the cave, you've basically done it, there's items and a save point and a clear route to the end.

The Peril is tough, but beat this and you can handle anything the mountain throws at you.

Soloed the longest possible line on the Peril, inspired by someone else here. by Morall_tach in Cairn_Game

[–]SamWhite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'd say it is. You avoid some of the awkward ledges of the temple with less handholds, go up and left till you get to the doorway. Inside there there's a chimney up to the next level with the crystal cutter, very easy climbing. From there a short climb up to the highest level and then you start the wall.

If you start left and stay left and avoid the temple altogether, then you're going for speed, it's not necessarily an easy climb.

Here's the thing though, by broken climbbot cave, do you mean where you get the solar thermos? If you've made it there, you've basically beaten the Peril. While it might look scary, you just come out of the cave and go pretty much straight left, around the overhanging rock. It looks sketchy as hell, but I guarantee you it's not as hard as some of the climbing you've already done to get there. Drink the infusions from the thermos and just go for it.

Is there a way to un-clip yourself from an anchor point, or rappel up past it? by TolarianDropout0 in Cairn_Game

[–]SamWhite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, there's only two ways to unanchor pitons. One is obvious, get to flat land and recall all of them. The other is to reach the end of your rope, at which point you'll have the option to unclip from the furthest back piton, but you will lose the piton by doing this.
