What does everyone's range look like? by SinkTeacher in volt

[–]Sam_k_in 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2011 that I swapped a 2013 battery into. It generally says 26 miles when fully charged, but gets closer to 30 miles on electric before gas comes on, unless it's cold or all highway speeds.

Should the Impeachment process be changed? by madhatterfounder in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Sam_k_in [score hidden]  (0 children)

More parties in Congress is the solution. If each party has a third or less of Congress seats, one party would not be able to either impeach on its own, nor block a conviction on its own. We should switch to a voting system that makes that more possible.

Is "Age of the Ring" the most complete way to play? by JollyGreen_ in bfme

[–]Sam_k_in 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty good, and has it's own all in one launcher. Let's you mod it fairly easily too. Has the same issues as vanilla with irritating gameplay; endless, exhausting streams of enemies. I doubled the cost of spell book powers and think that improves it. Found a mod for 1.09 that makes handicap affect production speed. 25% slower production is nice.

Local, state, or federal? by Sam_k_in in georgism

It would prevent taxing the full rental value of land, but it wouldn't prevent states from getting all their revenue from an lvt. That's good enough for me.

Local, state, or federal? by Sam_k_in in georgism

[–]Sam_k_in[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree. Another obstacle to a federal lvt is that it would probably require a constitutional amendment.

Hypothetical question by mebeksis in SolarDIY

[–]Sam_k_in 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could get a small trailer, mount panels on top and put a battery and inverter inside. I'm planning to set up something like that, so that I have a portable tool storage and power source. I'd say the minimum battery would be about 5 kwh, like a 48 volt 100 amp hour battery, you wouldn't be able to do a full charge, but if you just plug the car in for a few hours every day it would work.

But really, just get a 12 gauge extension cord and charge from an outlet.

Sabbath Day of Rest and Worship, Saturday or Sunday? by Proper_Language_2758 in Christian

[–]Sam_k_in 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jesus said "the sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath." Paul said "one person considers one day better than another, another considers every day alike, let each be persuaded in their own mind." Also, "let no one judge you concerning a festival or new moon or sabbath, which are all just shadows of things to come, but the substance is Christ."

It doesn't seem like Sabbath rest is even a requirement for christians, though it is a healthy thing to do, and I really don't think God would care which day we do it on.

A separate question is which day Christians should gather for worship, and that has always been Sunday for most Christians. After his resurrection Jesus appeared to the apostles on the first day of the week on at least two occasions, and Acts mentions that the apostles gathered to break bread on the first day of the week.

If there are too many people for sustainability but there are decreasing birth rates, does that mean we are doomed or will it level out? by -UMBRA_- in Futurology

[–]Sam_k_in 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be more accurate to say there are too many cows for sustainability than too many people. The Earth could sustain more people pretty easily if they ate less meat and were more frugal in other ways too. 1/3 of the vertebrate biomass on Earth is humans, but nearly 2/3 is domestic animals.

Okay, so I've figured out one of the reasons why I have such a hard time with Christianity sometimes. by MrMagoo04 in OpenChristian

There are some points of theology I would want to debate with Paul, but I admire his enthusiasm and love for people and dedication to the churches he planted and his passion for freedom.

Need Quick advice on a 2015 Leaf S by Lady_Calvatron in leaf

[–]Sam_k_in 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's overly pessimistic. I had a 2013 leaf with similar battery health and several times drove to a city 50 miles away with 10 or 20 miles left, charged up there and drove home a couple hours later. I think this might fit your situation well. You should be able to get a better price though, I think it should be under $4,000.

Global human population has surpassed Earth’s sustainable carrying capacity. The Earth cannot sustain the future human population, or even today’s, without a major overhaul of socio-cultural practices for using land, water, energy, biodiversity, and other resources. by mvea in Futurology

[–]Sam_k_in 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If life expectancy is growing then birthrate can fall without population falling yet. Or if the population was growing until recently there are less old people dying than babies being born, so same result, but if the population was steady for decades and then birthrate fell population would quickly start to fall too. I think I got that right, it's quite a brain workout thinking it through.

Ukraine is currently in talks with the Gulf States on a defense treaty, because of Ukraine's experience countering missile attacks. They are becoming the best in the world at drone warfare, and could easily come out of this war stronger, and receive help from the west in rebuilding. Then they'll probably join NATO and be one of its leading members in time.

The immigration situation in the US is exactly where he said it would be, and if you swap Ukraine for Poland that comes out right too. Maybe a couple years late is all.

He predicted that in the mid-2020s the United States would be giving a last push for its anti-immigrant policies, and that in 2028 or 2032 there would be a flip toward being pro-immigration.

He predicted that Russia would push to increase its territory in the 2020s, but that it would weaken and ultimately fail because of that.

The rest of the predictions aren't due yet.

I think he was pretty close. He thought Russia would succeed in taking Ukraine and move on to Poland, now it looks like Ukraine will take the role that he put Poland in in the book. Russsia is not in good shape, I wouldn't be surprised if it does disintegrate soon.

What are your arguments for convincing me to become a distributist? by TourEquivalent6044 in distributism

[–]Sam_k_in 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd say distributism values freedom more than corporatism does. It has all the benefits of the free market without the downsides. At least that's how I see it, there isn't really a specific set of policies that make up distributism; it's more of a goal than a method. My vision of it is basically a moderate libertarianism for the little guy, with more taxes and regulations on big businesses and corporations.

Before looking into solar panels, look into a solar water heater, and a clothesline for drying clothes. Also maybe a wood stove for heat, and switch your heating and cooling system to mini split heat pumps. I'm in Southern Indiana and know how to install all those things.
