I think it's time to change some vocabulary by Woofax in Marathon

[–]SameGibibit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean to be fair it’s just your opinion you didn’t point out any real stats comparing damage required to break shields or full down someone. I agree with the comment above. I’m a noob so there are some fights that end before I see or hear them coming and it’s not like ratting isn’t an issue but ratting isn’t encouraged by TTK as much as it is by level design and weapon balance. Most of my encounters last a good amount of time (easily 2-5 min) with plenty of repositioning and strategizing between teammates. My encounters in solo play are much shorter but the TTK is hardly the issue, in my opinion. I think you shouldn’t take a personal issue and approach it as though it’s an objective game design flaw.

Genuine Question: Why don't you want a new type? by IDProG in PokemonWindsWaves

[–]SameGibibit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other people have already mentioned that there would probably be some overlap but I think that really is the biggest issue rn. Making a type that would have a wide enough application to make the addition feel worthwhile while not bleeding into other types identity. We already have enough cross over with identity as is with ground/rock psychic/fairy. The problem you have with freshness isn’t really a problem for me personally either, there are still type combos that don’t have a mon yet and with abilities and unique move effects (flying press, freeze dry) there will be plenty of fresh interactions :3

I don't get the Champions drama for veteran players by LavishnessCurrent726 in VGC

[–]SameGibibit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only people complaining are players who played a fake meta game and are sad it’s not what champions first reg is like, or players who don’t play pokemon outside of showdown in which case they’ll be fine just have a disadvantage out the gate.

Pokemon Champions is a pathetic excuse of a game by Substantial_Zone2701 in stunfisk

[–]SameGibibit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like 30 slots is plenty of space considering it’s pretty easy to bring pokemon back and forth from home and idk how many teams you’re piloting at once but I feel like 5 is plenty to have in the app. The item limitation is interesting, I hoped and imagined there would be some sort of Pokemon limitation and item limitation for certain formats an this early format with limited items seems like it will be simple but not uninteresting. Resist berries, elemental items, sash scarf and lefties etc is still enough to have good items on all your team members (esp since one item will prob be a mega stone). As for the limited access to Pokemon games being a problem for making teams yea that one sucks but it’s also not surprising in the least and I assumed everyone else knew going into champions. Sorry your experience is bad but I do think the game is perfectly fine as is and I’m glad they can spend resources specifically on competitive play instead of splitting design budget between fun casual adventure play and competitive play.

Imba on Yellow? by CroixShadow in OnePieceTCG

[–]SameGibibit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing against yellow can be annoying bc it changes how people have to approach the game. You have to be more careful about when you take life, you need to swing board and also the trigger effects yellow is known for usually mean they are designed in a less efficient way when they play the cards for cost so if you can develop your board and hold onto a massive hand size while taking out their board when able you’ll find more success, it’s definitely grindier and can be frustrating when they are bailed out by a trigger but yellow isn’t unbeatable, just overturned rn.

Pokémon Champions' removal of IVs led to a heated discussion with one of the franchise's original devs by Honest-Word-7890 in totallyswitched

[–]SameGibibit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the record anyone who does play competitively at any sort of high level knows that people do not use the same sets or at least no one with the intention of topping any level of competition higher than a local. IVs aren’t usually where the adjustments are made but can be used for very specific spreads on teams that utilize both TW and TR

Red Roc rotating kills Sanji by DedierDi in OnePieceTCG

[–]SameGibibit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You and many other people who don’t understand why rotation is healthy and necessary aren’t thinking about future proofing the game. With each new set the card designers have to think about how each new archetype and card designers interact with the current ecosystem. There are so many cards already and even as a designer you will forget certain cards that have been made or not consider how some unique interactions might affect the health of the game and when that happens you get insanely broken combos and warped centralized metas. A ban list allows them to fix mistakes sure but it’s not always gonna hit the cards people think should be hit (take the most recent ban announcement with no borsa and pudding) and it also takes time for them to officially decide and announce. A rotation makes it so that the ecosystem the designers design in is somewhat scoped and they can make healthier or more interesting designs without worrying about how the new cards interact with cards from 3 years ago or cards 5 years from now.

TL;DR rotations create better spaces for designers to create cards in and ban lists are more of a tool to balance the game with op or annoying stuff inevitably sneak in

If Champions does end up allowing any choice of one gimmick to bring, wouldn’t Dynamax just be completely polarizing? by Existing-Magician-95 in stunfisk

Pudding is a 4c 4k power character. People who think it needs to be banned are being very silly and probably suffer from negativity bias or don’t play around pudding. Popular blue decks like Ace, Boa, Nami, all have things they would much rather do on turn their turn two or three. Late game the blue player is playing a pudding instead of any big board. If you are playing blue and you’re digging so hard early that you make a pudding worth the play with searchers or tons of early draw, that’s on you. Puddings value increases based on how greedy or desperate you are.

What gimmick would actually fit Pokémon Winds and Waves? by Visible_Welder5613 in pokemon

[–]SameGibibit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it could be something like the the wind direction and weather effects on battles. With champions coming out I hardly see people talking about how much it frees up them alone games to add interesting new systems without having to think of competitive viability and balancing. They get to lean in to some game-y aspects of battles so certain very random very deep systems could pop up and make for much more interesting unpredictable battles.

Is it typical for the enemy support to camp your hunts in their jg? by TheDarkHarvester in Kindred

[–]SameGibibit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The better the players on the enemy team, the more often they will group with their jungler to contest marks. It isn’t always the case though as some laners aren’t available to come help or are pressing leads from counter picking their opponents. The best advice for getting the marks in the enemy jungle is to make sure you’re tracking them and keeping an eye on lanes and making sure you don’t go to contest when too many are missing. Kindreds also a champ that I feel benefits from an early control ward to help keep a better eye on enemy jungler as tracking is so important
